TOOLS FOR LESS THAN A DOLLAR, EACH! Tools bought at the Decatur Swap Meet 2024 I went this year with a pocket multi bit tool, a hammer and a pair of side coating pliers. The gas inside that unit is moving so fast that the little bit of water won't do anything. Your problem is that it is not the proper size. You need a certain amount of btu per square foot of the room or house. The only time you need to clean the condensor coil is if it's clogged.

    If you do this, only use distilled water. otherwise you are adding minerals which will eventually clog the coil.

  • @Barracuda48082
    @Barracuda48082 3 місяці тому

    Answer: depending on your surrounding environment, from day one, use quality duct tape or aluminum tape and pieces of fiberglass window screen, cover the louvered areas on the cabinet to keep large debris from caking the unseen coil fins inside. Northern states have dogwood trees that release cotton ball seeds that clog these fins badly, worse when it rains turning dust into mud..makes cleaning these tough and shortens the life drastically. The later designs were made to use the indoor condensation to help cool the coil with a slinger ring on the rear fan blade..good idea but double edge sword..it makes the dirt stick. The screen reduces the debris also a visual aid..if dirty, wipe off. Annually, spray an upolstery foam on coil, saturating it so foam goes through fins. Rinse well after a few minutes, repeat. This will add nearly twice the life it would have had without the screen and no cleaning. Save the $$ people.

    I’m a retired HVAC service tech. Where that coil is going to be dirty is on the inside. It draws air in the side vents and expels it out the back. Splashing some water on the back isn’t going to do anything. You need to take it out of the window, and remove the case to access the other side of the coil.

      The intention of this video is to make people aware that the condenser benefits from water being present under the condenser to sub cool the high pressure liquid before the metering device of the evaporator. Please accept my apologies for not having a cleaner condenser before trying to make my point. Residential split DX systems don't have this feature and many window units over 25 years ago didn't either. The short isn't about cleaning, it's about dropping the high pressure liquid a few more degrees using the designed trough with water more than 100 degree air can. There are two passes of unfinned tubing sitting in water under these condensers. I look forward to watching some of your content and thank you for watching mine.

      Ok now why is my AC blowing black foam balls out inside hae?

    • @cmintsurfer
      @cmintsurfer 3 місяці тому

      Foam indicates soap residue from a previous cleaning. Black balls means there is growth in the wet areas of the unit. Removing the unit and cleaning it will stop both problems. I use a spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide on the evaporator and the wet areas to kill all organic growth. I have other videos in my Air Conditioning playlist and you can see what a unit looks like when it is open for cleaning. Thanks for watching and commenting@@MeMe-hz9bj

    Is this magic or just internet bs... I need to know!

    • @cmintsurfer
      @cmintsurfer 3 місяці тому

      Just physics. On low humidity days in Texas, the air inside the house dries out and that causes the very bottom of the condenser outside to work harder. Most modern window units use the water made by the evaporator inside to cool the final bit of tubing on the condenser and that makes the "freon" cooler just before it's sent back inside to get more heat. It's an efficient design and the unit in this video has a hole to drain excess water and another unit I have doesn't. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      @@cmintsurfer If you don't mind I would appreciate your opinion. I just purchased a madia 8k btu split window air condition. Have you had one to know if they're good or not?

    • @cmintsurfer
      @cmintsurfer 3 місяці тому

      @@kristins8438I'm only aware of good reviews on your unit. No complaints. I know they are quieter due to separate fan motors and the compressor is outside because the window drops down almost fully. All evaporators (inside coil) condense air and make water. There is a channel on these that allows it to flow outside. Keeping it clear and able to flow water is important. I haven't taken a condenser out of a Midea to see if it sub cools like the window unit in my video. If you have the owners manual it may list some simple tasks to perform to keep it clean. All units need the outside coil cleaned annually and I heard the Midea units are easier to do. I think you made a smart purchase. Thanks

    For anyone who can answer a homes large AC and heating unit out by side of the house if it sit for a year unused is it still repairable to work good as new again this is hughfull house size heater/ cooler unit. U see cats 30 years old setting rusting.. they fix it goes can this be done for gugh home on ground ac unit not window😅 unit hugh whole house unit fixable or do they just wZnt to see a new unit?? • @cmintsurfer
      @cmintsurfer 2 місяці тому

      A DX (Direct expansion) residential AC "split system" (half inside and half outside) can sit for years and be started again. Most units 15 years or newer, won't need maintenance if it just sat but was in good shape before sitting. Coils get dirty from fan use. I would inspect or have someone check the outside unit for ant and wasp damage, but the inside needs to be checked for rodent damage to the ductwork and make sure a new filter is installed. My "whole house unit" sat unused for a couple years but I had isolated the "freon" to the condenser outside before it sat and had a new drier installed years later after it was leak checked. (The A shaped evap coil was blocked by poor filter choices and removing it was the only way to clean it.) It takes a Technician to do some of these things and the companies they work for want to sell systems. This year 2024 will be the last year to sell AC systems using 410A refrigerant because 2025 has new rules or laws. If you have one older than 25 years get a new one now. They will be allowed to run 410A way past 2025 but when they break the new unit must use 454B (a enviro friendly gas). Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @cmintsurfer
      @cmintsurfer 4 місяці тому

      If the AC is in a room with a door, close it until the room is satisfied. If it's not keeping up it may not be big enough or the coils are dirty. A 5,000 BTUH unit does a good job on a 10 ft square room.

      It needs to be cleaned. The finned coil inside sits in a Styrofoam tray that has a hole to allow the moisture to flow outside. That hole is blocked. I have been able to blow that hole clear with a plastic straw and a deep breath of air. Most of the time the hole is on the right side of the coil under the bottom copper elbows. Give it a try but take it out and clean it soon. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Check your filter. If the indoor coil is dusty, spray it with a pump sprayer. If it's clogged, removed it from the window and clean it. Spray the outdoor coil and the inside of the back until the water turns clear. If you removed it from the window to clean it, it's a good idea to remove the case and the back a good cleaning. There are videos on a complete window unit cleaning. If you've done that and it still isn't keeping up, you may need a window unit with more BTUs.
