This week I had an amazing visit with the wonderful team over at Legacy Icons. They are the world's largest Orthodox Icon and devotional material distributor, and their products are nothing short of amazing. Thank you to the DeJonge family, especially David and Ethan, for taking so much time out of your day to spend with James and me. The experience was the most hospitable, informative, and enjoyable visit I've ever made to a company... period.
In the video I share my thoughts on the necessity of beauty in our current age, a brief history of iconography, and a story and review of Legacy Icons and why I am in love with their products.
I really do hope you will check out their products and pick something beautiful up to aid in your devotional life.

A Summer Reading Challenge - The Trinity from Basic to Advanced
Переглядів 895 місяців тому
The Trinity is the great mystery of the Christian faith! But it is not meant to confound us. God has given us self-revelation of His nature/being and activity/interaction through History and the Scriptures. However, we have watched a great decline in the modern Evangelical's ability to articulate the Triune faith that for the past 2,000 years has been the centerpiece of Christian confession. I ...
My Top 5 Most Influential Christian Authors

Over the past 11 years of reading widely in the Christian tradition, a handful of authors have risen to the top in their level of influence on my ministry, pastoral imagination, and theological leanings. In the video and below, I share who the authors are and a couple of books from each that could get you started reading them for yourself. A.W. Tozer The Pursuit of God - amzn.to/3y6EG5E The Kno...

The Thief on the Cross - Ken Gire "The Reflective Life" Meditation
Переглядів 1897 місяців тому
Here on this Holy Saturday, I wanted to continue the reflection of Good Friday and Christ's work on the Cross. There is an amazing dramatic imaginative narrative of the interaction between the thief on the cross and Christ Jesus, in Ken Gire's book "The Reflective Life." I hope it encourages you and enriches your meditation on the passion this weekend. Ken Gire's book The Reflective Life: amzn....
The Beauty of the Cross of Christ - Good Friday Reflection
Переглядів 747 місяців тому
The Roman Cross is grotesque, yet the poetry of paradox says the Cross of Christ is the most beautiful expression the Lord could have done. On the Cross Christ is God acting like God. The greatest self-revelation of God in the Person of Jesus Christ. In light of Passion Weekend, I have a short reflection on Good Friday from a writing I did a couple years back. You can find the original article ...
Massive Theology and Church Father Book Haul

I always enjoy watching other's book haul videos, because it communicates a lot about a person and their library and the kinds of books they are picking up and getting excited about. I hope this video may inspire you to pick up one of these volumes or another Christian classic and read this week. I would love to hear what books you've picked up for your shelves recently, and thoughts on any of ...

I just bought 5 icons from them. I'm a first time buyer. Great video, thanks!
Hey I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian. UA-cam's algorithm probably fed me here due to the video you made on icons. Really liked this list and you've definitely introduced me to some interesting sounding people I haven't heard from before. I know you're a small channel but keep up the good work.
@@kyletussing2382 hey thanks, Kyle! I seriously appreciate the encouragement, and glad you found the channel!
Such a great adventure! And we got to meet great people. Such a blessing. Thanks Nick for the invitation. And thanks to legacy icons!
So glad you were a part of it! What’s our next lunch adventure?!
Great review! It’s such a blessing to have Legacy locally. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using icons as a bookmark. We keep them everywhere- tucked into the car visor, taped on mirrors, inside kitchen cabinets, etc… it’s great to have reminders of the gospel and our saints everywhere. I even have a few of the mini icons they make at Legacy that my baby likes to chew on 😂. God bless! - Veronica from Holy Cross in Walker
Hi Veronica! Thank you for the reassurance! That’s awesome about the mini icons. Haha. I bet my 6month old Isaac would probably do the same. 😅 God Bless you.
I accept your challenge, nick! Love your passion and can’t wait to dig in
Let’s go! Thanks for jumping in on the journey. Excited to hear your thoughts as we go through them all.
So glad you have a Fred Sanders in there!
Fred is a powerhouse on Trinitarian and participation theology. As is Dr. Fairbairn. His more academic volumes are impressive movements in the contemporary conversation.
Correction… Immanent Trinity in the dialogue of Deep Things of God is about the internal Trinitarian relationship. I was thinking of the divine attribute of God’s immanence.
Really loved these recommednations and the video! I had Tozer on my reading list for awhile, and when shopping at a used bookstore both Pursuit of God and Knowlege of the Holy were the only two they had. It was meant to be.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the recommendations. And what a find!! I’m certain those are going to be impactful reads for you. I’d love to hear your thoughts once you’ve gotten through them. Blessings
😘
There he is. Thanks brotha
It would be super beneficial for me if you put out some “top 5 reads” in specific categories like trinitarian theology, pastoral ministry, atonement, church fathers, etc. Love what you’re doing my friend!
I’ll start putting up favorites videos soon. 😁 thanks amigo.
You know what I’ve been in! Just under 200 pages left in brothers karamozov. Habits of the household. Strengthening the soul of your leadership. And the death of the messiah and birth of the new covenant by Gorman!
What a list!! And under 200 pages!! You’re nearly there! Wonderful. Thanks for engaging in the content, my friend!
Hi Nick. I came across your new channel a week or so ago and then watched all your content. I thought at first I’m going to have very little to comment here as I am not very well read and I find reading quite challenging. A few years ago I got an audible account where I get a credit every month (a credit = a book) and you create a library of audiobooks and I love credit day when I get to choose a new book. So I was very surprised today when you mentioned two books that are in my library. Both C.S Lewis The problem of pain and Henri Nouwen The way of the Heart . I particularly enjoyed The way of the heart, you spoke briefly on silents and solitude a practice that I have recently started to engage in , by taking some time to just be with God with no agenda. This I can find very challenging as my brain bounces around all sorts of things, but that said I still find it a valuable practice. I also have been encouraged by John Mark Comers books and podcasts. So I guess I did have something to comment. Great to see you again brother all the best from over the pond Martin
Wonderful! Always a joy to hear from you, my friend! John Mark Comers books are wonderful as well! I imagine you’ve gone through Ruthless Elimination of Hurry? Fantastic work toward a slower pace that includes silence and solitude! What’s been your favorite audio books so far?
@@NRMayo I feel I have been very fortunate so far and have chosen books from recommendations frequently from podcasts and the like. One of many that sticks in my mind as I believe God had a particular word for me was a book recommendation from Bono of U2 fame it came via a UA-cam video of him meeting Eugene Peterson . Bono was talking about run with the horses one of Eugene’s books it’s about Jeremiah and I found a very enjoyable listen. And I can’t not mention Pete Greg all his books but over the last two weeks I have re listened to red moon rising and dirty glory and found myself weeping on multiple occasions. Bonhoeffer the cost of discipleship is the book of the moment but only an hour or so in but totally engaged and enjoying. Looking forward to more recommendations from you.
@@martinscarland831 wonderful! I know the conversation you’re talking about with Bono and Peterson! I have yet to read Run with Horses, though Ironically I was thinking about it today as I was reading about Jeremiah with Samuel for his nap time bible reading. I’ll put that on my upcoming TBR list. I’m a huge Peterson fan! I have Red Moon Rising as well. I actually think I picked it up on your recommendation in the past, but have not read it yet. Thanks for sharing. They’ve officially been bumped up in the queue a bit. Haha
Reading Hosting the presents right now
Bill Johnson’s Hosting the Presence? Great book!
@@NRMayo yeah. Just finished loving your children on purpose by Danny silk.
@@NRMayo also just bought Kris Vallotton’s spirit wars
@@EnhanceDontDistract what a great reading list!! Loving your kids on purpose is on my list of upcoming reads
@@NRMayo changed my life and how i see and treat my kids.
I’m with you big dog.
Thanks for hanging in there to the end!!
that library though!
Haha. Thank you! It’s coming together nicely
This is a great reflective story and brings greater depth to the season we are in. Good read!
Thanks for checking it out. Happy to share
Thank you for sharing this meditation.
Thanks for checking it out, Greg! God bless you
I would love for you to begin to unpack some of these things you have learned and what you believe. These topics interest me, but it's hard to dive deep into reading material like this when I am a strong visual learner. Got you on in the background while I work. Great content and audio recording. Look forward to more!
Absolutely! I look forward to getting into some of these things in future vids. Thanks for the support!
I’m still with you, big dog. Serenade me.
You are one of the committed ones!! God bless you. haha
If that Hemingway volume has “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,” it’s one of my favorite short stories. I haven’t read much Hemingway at all, but that one has stuck with me.
I'll take a look and if so will start there! Thanks for the suggestion, my friend!
You have gained another supporter! My suggested page has been filled with Malcom guite videos, and this fits in perfectly 😁
😃Wonderful!! Thank you so much
What a pleasure to watch. Peace emulates from the screen. Jasmine and I really enjoyed! ❤
