This has been a lovely public art project in collaboration with Pete Insole and Nat Roberton from Bristol City Council to give a Victorian makeover to local businesses in the area. Robin Wood, Wood turner, Haddon Hall Exhibition 2015
Переглядів 3754 роки тому
For the past few years, Robin has been making tools in Sheffield with his daughter Jojo. In 2015, Robin had an exhibition of his work as a wood turner using a pole lathe. The pieces were designed and made specifically for the venue, the 900-year-old Haddon Hall, near Bakewell in Derbyshire. This little photofilm recalls Robin talking about the opening day of the show.

I recorded Ruth's work as a shoemaker as part of the Balvenie Masters of Craft competition in 2011, Ruth won the award as Young Master of Craft for that year. The little film though was only made in 2020 and it stands as a nice record of Ruth's work back then. She has since opened a very fine shop in Machynlleth and sells work from the shop and online.

Hi, My name is Alan Gilks and I support the The Lochcarron Centre (our village community centre) with IT and graphics support. We have small screen in our reception and a 65" TV in our community café (The Garden Room) inside the centre. I create presentations of upcoming events and slideshows of local photographs. I would be delighted if you would give me permission to include your film of John MacPherson weaving in the original 'Lochcarron Weavers' shop. I would not do so without the copyright owners permission. Thank you, Alan
We used to visit Durness and Laid every year and have met Lotte on a number of occasions. Her ceramics are awe inspiring and are an expression of the landscape in which she lives.
Beautiful

I'm privileged to have known Nigel for over half a century....and his late father & mother, in fact his mother Nora is/was my youngest daughter's Godmother. A 'good ol' boy' if ever is Nigel & I fished/potted with him and his Pa. the legendary Maurice 'Bunny' Legge back in the early/mid seventies. We've shared many a laugh & a yarn together and may we do so again ere long! He's a multi talented 'original' is Nige.... SO amazingly photogenic and a thoroughly 'good egg'! Wish he'd write a book about all his past times.......I'd buy a copy instantly!!! So would many, including Hutley Winnan!!!!
I love your videos, I'm a traditional lime plasterer who will be moving on to pargeting at some point. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and the videos you do. Keep up your great work.
True master of his craft
are those horses bio-luminescent?
Really nice work!
I used to love the bog white daisy called the dog daisy. I still remember all the English flowers and the smells. The roses were exquisite. No one has commented after so long, I was talking to my son about my childhood, 70 odd yrs ago, the flowers were what I missed so much. ❤🌺🌻🌹🌸🏵🌾🌼🥀💐
I never knew there were so many varieties of Michaelmas Daisies. I allways enjoyed seeing them as a child in Lancashire UK, but here in Australia where I now live they are not the same, they don't smell the same and they have a different name. An old lady had a garden of them and mint, I can still smell the scent now in my mind. Your a very lucky man to see them all the time. ❤
Wow !! Wonderful work, I would love to learn how you make such beautiful sticks
My grandpa was in WW2 at the end of the war before he came home they did guard duty taking german prisoners around to clean upthe thing was theyalso paid themto do so they had guards so the German didn't get any weapons bit he had seen some sherpperd boys with there crouck useing them to climbing up steep hill by hooking trees with them to go after sheep or goats
I've watched this loads of times, it never fails to inspire me,, I've got a MM Ergonomic, which is a Mr Ablett design, and every time I look at it, I think of the history of the Sheffield men who made this country great.. RIP Mr Ablett,, 😍
Thanks Nick, can I use this on a website please?
Yes, of course. Can you embed the You Tube link? Let us know if you need anything.

I've just stumbled across this video & I can't believe I'm the first person to leave a comment - it's been up for 5 years! Nigel Legge is one of the nicest people you are ever likely to meet, and it was a treat to see a couple of videos on youtube featuring him. I've just watched a much more recent one but the comments were switched off, so I found this older one. It brought back wonderful memories of regular holidays in Cornwall with my wife. On one occasion we visited Cadgwith & had the pleasure of Nigel taking us out on his boat to lift some lobster pots. When we got back to shore, Nigel couldn't get the boat quite close enough to dry land, and he insisted on giving us both a piggy-back onto the beach so that we didn't get our feet wet - the man is a legend!
Many hundreds of my Sheffield ancestors were cutlers, including such folk as the Ellin family, Oldales and Barbers.
What's his opinion about the CIA?
My Great grandfather was ted's first cousin
Watching the Sunday morning programme on the amazing gardens. Remember coming to the gardens many years ago at the start of my gardening career 25 years ago lovely to see the gardens again albeit on the television . Wishing all of the gardeners the very best.

Great video and craft skill. Unfortunately we don't have much pargeting in Norfolk!
It is hard to imagine a man with the occupation of Rabbit Catcher in this day and age. What a shame.

Hello Mick, I will take a look, I will have some more for sure, a lovely man, place and work.
@Letterpress Collective I was one of the first workers with Padraig and his boat project. He always had so much interesting stuff to say. It was a different simpler time as you well know. I remember we regularly had interesting travellers like yourself who would come visit and work with us for short periods. Would be lovely to see some of the old times and places and faces.
Interesting. His collection is better presented that the "national" collection at Llandrindod. Is this bloke still still around / open for visitors?
God Bless You Sir! Keep up the great work!
This was a woman who spontaneously began singing out on the benches in front of Helen's last month....very moving...inside the Pub there were a group of locals playing Irish music, along with an underage lad drinking Orange soda playing accordian. ua-cam.com/users/shortsbIOejmP5pvI?feature=share. i was sitting at the next table with a groups of folk i met and spent a few hours relaxing with...
Small point, Ireland is not part of the British Isles, that an anachronistic term from the days of English colonialism and genocide, a term most Irish will take exception to

My grandfather was from Westray - and I had a summer in Orkney in the 1970's visiting relatives Hewison and Drever's up at Brough. I took home a tiny chair in my suitcase. I loved it. My home burned down a few years ago and lost everything. I have been searching for one since then. I hope to try to make my own from Local Oat straw (I live in Southern Alberta Canada. I loved watching you work. I hope to find a book about this.

my neighbor is from England and she found out I liked traditional pocket knives so she offered to sell me hers. Its a Sheffield from Little Mesters. She has two pictures she took with a polaroid camera, one of the building and one of a gentleman making her knife. She said that the gentleman making her knife passed away while he was making her knife and that the gentlemans wife had to finish the knife for them. On the back of the picture the date is 1985.
Those are some beautifully crafted fighting sticks top notch work I am truly impressed
Complimenti, continua sempre per questa strada! Posso chiederti che tipo di carta usi? A vederla sembrerebbe carta da frutta; mi sbaglio o si tratta di un altro tipo di carta?
