I dreamed this the other day. Then this video showed up!
Phil and Jake Hook were extraordinary and make the best comedy couple ever in SNL, they were both in every sketch

jerry's acting his like his comedy: highly effective. it's really good
I looked around and I've tried to find what I considered to be his funniest routine, as funny as sketch was with Chris Farley and the setup was it was on like a Mississippi River boat cruise attraction and there was a show where a guy was an expert with a bullwhip. But the expert was sick, and Phil Hartman played the guy's understudy. And Chris Farley was the assistant who held the stuff in his mouth and the guy with the bullwhip was supposed to snatch out of his mouth like a cigarette or whatever. But of course the understudy wasn't as good as the other guy. I thought it was the funniest setup and hilarious execution. I've never seen it since.
Professional pretenders who are now shooting mothers on sets if a Baker pretends to be a cowboy and shoots a mother in prison hate the double standard.

Hartman was the unsung hero of SNL, when it was still funny. He did the heavy lifting whilst other, more flashy types, took the bows.

This dude couldn't care less about Phil and clearly wasn't interested in adding to jerrys subject matter regarding phil. He wanted the subject to change lol I don't like his dismissing ways regarding Phil even if the guy didn't mean to come across as not interested it's clear to anyone watching. I'm glad someone at the level of Jerry is praising Phil highly. It's very well deserved and he is indeed missed tremendously

Danny Benten Me too. I grew up watching The Larry Sanders Show and that era from 1986 to 1994 were some of the best seasons of SNL outside of 1975-80. That cast with Lovitz, Hooks, A. Whitney Brown, Carvey, Nealon, Dunn, Miller and Hartman were unstoppable.

Paul Hartmann I recently read “You May Remember Me-Phil Hartman” but it did answer the following burning questions. May I ask you out of interest if you know, did Brynn ever use the casting couch 🛋 in Hollywood before she met Phil? Did Sean & Birgen when growing up, get taunted at school from other students concerning the circumstances of their parents death 💀? Did Birgen like her late mother previously have a cocaine addiction? Why did Pfizer settle the wrongful lawsuit in 1999 when a pamphlet that accompanies the drug strictly states not to mix it with alcohol 🍸 & other illicit drugs as it can trigger a psychotic episode. Why wasn’t Sean’s psychiatrist Dr. Gorsky (spelling?) not legally prosecuted for informally supplying Brynn with Zoloft? And finally, why wasn’t Brynn’s cocaine dealer caught and prosecuted?? Some say Phil’s fellow Newsradio actor Andy Dick supplied the coke to Brynn. So if Andy Dick’s really responsible for supplying Brynn with a lethal dose of coke, why was Andy Dick not prosecuted for supplying an illegal narcotic?? Many thanks.
Loved your brother's work, especially his work on Newsradio, SNL, and his Flat TV album. My favorite sketch of his was his "Robot Repair" sketch from c. 1989. First time I saw it, I nearly choked on my dinner! Granted, I was born in the year 2000, but I encountered his work as I grew up and it never ceases to make me laugh and inspired a lot of my own humor as well. Nothing but respect from me.
based on this clip from the "Not Just the Best of the Larry Sanders Show" DVD extras I went out & watched the Phil Hartman best of SNL dvd=they do not exaggerate. The truly amazing extent & breadth of his talent..&his utter committment to his work & the small subtle touches he adds to his bits (even live!) bear endless replays. Even amongst the other SNL reliable-go-to-people & workhorses who anchored/backboned the show longtime like him, Ackyroyd, Will Ferrell, Kristin Wiig he stands above.
