A very impressive hostel that looks totally unrecognisable from when I lived there for a few months way back in 1985 and1986. Back then it was largely civil servants who were the residents. I think these days residents of LHA properties are largely overseas students. The one thing that does make me nostalgic is the patterned steps outside of the hostel. I loved them back then and they still look great. The other thing of note is that back when I was a resident is that there were two LHA properties on Belsize Park Road. This one (number 40) was the men's hostel and the other (number 30 I think) was the women's hostel. The women had to come to our hostel for meals as the other one had no kitchen facilities. It's a great place to stay due to its location. It's pretty close to central London but is far enough away to give it a lovely relaxed feel, none of the hustle and bustle of even close by places like Camden or Hampstead High Street.
