We had spent a few days struggling with the shift shank & shifter cable linkage connector wasting many hours , with a few choice words for the engineers or designers responsible for that less than desirable connection, anyways, great info !!!!!!

I have a 1993, 70 hp Evinrude that i changed the impeller and trying to go back up with the lower unit. I got it all the way up, put the bolts to hold the lower unit on but the rod that is vertical with little hole in it does not line up with linkage. According to this video, I need to take lower unit back down and turn the vertical rod in or out some, then try stabbing it again. On mine, you cannot see anything from the port side of the motor, but you can barely see the end of the vertical rod with hole on the starboard side. I cannot see the part that moves up or down so I do not know for sure how I will get it back in the right position because I can barely see where it is suppose to line up with linkage on the starboard side, but cannot touch it. can anyone help?

I disconnected my shaft. I removed all 4 foot bolts, I removed the 3 bolts under the back above the skeg and..... My lower end doesn't move.... at all. Any ideas? I would rather not have to use a mallet and wooden block to try to separate them

Well.. I almost literally gave up on my evinrude 70 yesterday until I saw your video. I didn't know omc went from a bolt to a pin on the bottom shifter linkage and i had no idea what to do at that point..Turns out my impeller was OK but it was a plugged thermostat. Thanks for the video sir!

they make a shift linkage tool but we had to redo it 5 times to get it to hook back up top...we had to adjust throttle cable all the way out for it to line back up.. weird but it works fine
