How far from the finder scope do put your eye. Seems the red dot moves around depending on where my eye is, I can’t align for that reason, very frustrating. Any help appreciated.
Just got one of these telescopes and thanks for a very clear and concise video. Did you ever make a video on collimation as I cant see to find it in your collections ?
Where did you get the t-shirt? It was a great series. 🙂
Vicki got it for me on Etsy, its a great series!

Excellent! old LX10 with a new smart mount from KTEC here, glad to see the channel back. And hope to buy more from ye again and chat and ask questions!
Glad to be back! LX10, lovely scope.
Hi,I want to find out something. This days I will buy my first telesvope and will be a Skywatcher 200p Dobsonian. But I am confuse is skyliner is the same one as clasic 200p?
Yes it is.
helpful. thanks!
even thought you dont have the best setup for filming, you have by far the most usefull video about this.
Thank you, learning as we go!
@@ktectelescopesireland3777 hey I know it's a while after I posted this, but this review actually made me buy this exact telescope. Until now I have seen quite alot with it, even though when it was shipped it was dropped VERY hard along the way, causing one of the legs to break and, as I later found out, part of the frame to crack. But even then, the telescope works perfectly fine, so I am quite happy with it. Thank you for your reviews.
Is there any solar filter on this telescope?
8 inch model?
Yes it is, superb scope!

Thank you!!!
Heading out tonight with daughter to find the moon, bought this second hand and this video helped me a lot, thank you!
It's been a long time. Did you ever make it out to see the moon? How did the dob work out? Was it your first one? Any suggestions? Thanks.
Agree! Your narration and explanation have been super useful. Helped me get over a worrisome learning curve. Much appreciated! Best regards!
Hello Thank you for this tutorial it really helped me set mine up But just I have question What other accessories should I get to use it with? I am thing of getting a 4mm plossl eyepeice and a 25% moon filter Would these work with it? Also should I get a barlow lense and would a solar filter work on this telescope and if so which one should I get
Amazing video Stephen! I still have a question though, i want to buy this telescope but i would like to install a motor drive on it, is that possible?
Really useful, thanks 👍🏻
Can you get eyepiece extenders? My friend is disabled and the tripod could cause access issues.
Can anyone tell me if this base could be dismantled to fit inside a suitcase to be checked in during a flight?🙂
cheers! really appreciated this info! I have mine inbound!
I'm buying one on Tuesday,,,Canny wait
Indeed an 8inch Dobsonian is a great all-rounder
Hi, that’s helpful, thanks. Can one plug in a controller/keypad from another skywatcher goto mount and turn it into a goto tracker? Thx
Unfortunately not, there is a new Skywatcher Star Adventurer GTi avaioable, but wont be in stock until near summer time
Wow. Thank you for the video. Very useful. Is this scope usable with light contamination? I mean, can we still see close object like moon and other planets in a light contaminated environment (night)? Will it be suitable to upgrade the scope with a Barlow and 4mm eyepiece for planets? And 70° eyepiece for stars and galaxies? I mean if the scope supports them? Thank you very much.
Hi, yes, as its a good sized aperture, it will help with light pollution, though you can get filters that will counter certain types of light pollution. Using a barlow with a 4mm wont work. I would recommend getting a standalone 5mm eyepiece for higher magnification. Leave the barlow until you have a few other eyepieces over 15mm in size. For deeper sky opbjects, go for 25mm and higher focal lengths.
Where can you buy the shroud to cover the open space?
Im looking into reviews of this particular telescope and i found there are some guides to make your own shroud out of eva foam for very little money
I watched some DIY you tube videos and made a permanent shroud for mine with a large black soft foam sheet from a craft store and taped it in place along the front opening with black electrical tape. Once I got the initial paper template perfected it was super easy to cut the shroud from the foam sheet with scissors. Its been on my scope a few years now and works great !
I'm deciding if I should get the 8 inch version from SkyWatcher or the 10 inch version? Much help would be highly appreciated
There actually isnt much between the 8 and 10, you will have to move it in 2 parts. The 12 is the one thats very heavy, and quite different ownership experience than the 8 or 10.
Hey that's my dad's office
Thank you for the presentation Stephen. Can the tube be mounted lately on a different mount, automated one for tracking and astrophoto? Does the fact that is a bit big and heave affects it in any way? I am looking to buy a telescope which I want to be an all - arounder, includding a little big of astrophoto. This will also be my first. Do you recommend this one? I'll appreciate your reply! Thanks!
up 😀
You can put it on an EQ mount, you will need tuberings and a dovetail bar, but it is a long scope, and you would need to be careful with the bottom hitting the legs. An EQ mount with an extension pillar would be best.
Thank you SO much!! I am a beginner and really needed this tutorial! I just can’t explain how thankful I am that I can now use my telescope. Thank you so much! :)
You are so welcome!
@@ktectelescopesireland3777 :D
Hi, I have the same telescope and need help. I cannot see anything. Even the moon is hard. Please could you recommend a moon filter that I could use and fits on the 250p. Also any thoughts on how I can see the planets? Do I need a filter or some add on to view them? Thanks
Try it in the daytime on a distant object, like over 2km away, with the highest focal length eyepiece you have, probably a 25mm. The object should come into view sharply when its focused. Mark the focuser with a marker at this point, so next time you go out, it should be focused for the moon. You can do this for all the other eyepieces you have, marking them all on the focuser. If the daytime object wont come into focus at all, you might need to add the extension tube that should have come with your scope, in order for it to focus. Practice in the daytime is the key, wheres theres time to do it, and you wont be under pressure with trying to see and focus a moving object, like the moon, in the dark.
@@ktectelescopesireland3777 thank you Sir
@@ktectelescopesireland3777 thank you Sir
So I'm interested in seeing the planets ya said this isn't the one so what kind of telescope would ya recommend looking to get into it for the first time. Thank you!
Hi Jesse, a scope with a longer focal length would be better, like a Schmidt Cassegrain, or Maksutov Cassegrain type scope. These are ideal for planets and moon. If you are on a tighter budget, a 90mm or 102mm refractor with 900mm or 1000mm focal lengths will do a good job too.
Is there a multi function telescope that cover Astronomy as well as Sea scape viewing and photographs?
Hi Richard, Most of the sub 500 euro refractors, on AZ mounts, or with AZ in the title will do the daytime viewing also. Just make sure the description says so, or it comes with a 90° Erect Image Diagonal in the contents list.
I'm new to this all and removed the mirror to clean but it was.more hassle than its worth now that nothing alligns anymore. When is your colimating video coming out for this?
Ouch 😬 Hope you got everything straightened out.
Here Italy, i have this telescope, from AMAZON only 188 euros (the prize). Low prize but high quality, the mirror is parabolic. Fantastic visions, Jupiter and Saturn sharp images
come hai fatto a prenderlo per 188? A me tocca sborsare 350 :(
Yes, it used to be 200 euro or so, but now its about the 250 euro mark. Do not pay 350 for it!!!

Yep, Ill get one sorted when I get the new videos done soon :)
It’s deadly!

I know, I was almost killed by one recently
Once again, great video
Glad you enjoyed it
100% - I've got a 5'' Mak and it's fantastic on the planets and moon.
So 50x per inch.. on a 130mm (5 inch) 250x. I've read to get the max value, double the diameter 130 * 2 260. Are you saying to aim at a slightly smaller magnification? This is a great video for eyepiece basics, but this leaves me with a question.. many scopes come with acromats. From watching UA-cam, I'm thinking mine came with acromats.. They also say that plossl are better quality without breaking the bank. I was thinking of talking to you about using plossl and going for a slightly wider lens - for instance replace the super 25 with a 28mm plossl. Same with the 10mm. What's your advice there before looking at more exotic (and expensive) lenses? Thanks once again for a great video..
Under Irish skies I usually err on the cautious side of things. We really have brutal skies! If you have the standard kit lenses they will be usually achromats, with basic quality glass. They get the job done. Any aftermarket eyepiece will generally be an improvement. The 32mm Plossl is a lovely eyepiece for the deeper sky viewing. But when you go below 10mm in Plossls, the eye relief gets pretty poor. So try to get modified Plossls, or any type with good eye relief. For going above the 25mm, basically the more expensive the eyepiece, the better the glass, so most people shop at their price budget, and get the best they can afford.
The very first thing I would suggest for that is a shroud to wrap around the open section of the OTA. Dew will settle on that secondary in no time at all. Otherwise, I like those little tabletop dobs for ease of use and quick setup.
Good call!
Great to see some insight to these, I keep meaning to get into this as a hobby, but I assume living in the city would deem it hard to see much?
Not necessarily.. if you were near the coast, you could aim out towards sea. Or if you have a motor, even a short drive could find you darker skies.. In fact, there's a group in London who specialise in showing that you can actually use a scope in a city. Just don't expect to see as much in the city as you would away from it.
Good question! You have to just do it where you are based. I know many who are doing it from the city, and yes, they wont be able to see the fainter stuff, but there's still a lot to see up there that they can see.
Excellent unboxing Stephen. It's great to see the scopes being set up.
Thanks 👍 Nice content you are getting up too :)
Mad little scope and crazy compact... What eyepieces come with that? Would you be looking to upgrade, say to plossl? Personally, I think the 130mm scope is a great size, though the bigger the more light signal. I'm not sure I would go lower than 130mm now, though all that depends on what you want to do with it.. Once again, great video and I'm looking forward to the collimation video..
Great little grab and go scope! The eyepieces are what we call "Kit Eyepieces", 10mm and 25mm. They come with most Beginner telescopes. They get the job done, and many users never upgrade, but if you really want the best out of it, an upgrade to Plossls, or Ultrawides of some sort would be beneficial.
It's great seeing you so active putting up videos with good information.. Keep up the good work Steve..
Thanks Paul, Lots more to come!
Great video Steve, lots if information. The hoodie confused me a little, made me want to view through a mirror 🪞 😆
Ah ye, the Ktec logo in the window is right way round! That's whats important!! :D
Nice video!
Cheers man! Glad you enjoyed it.
What I would like to know, what if you see a star and don't know what it is. Would you be able to point at it and find out as well? Instead of the other way round where it points to the star and tells you about it.
You can get apps for your phone, that when held up to the sky, tell you what you are looking at. Also, if you have a scope with a goto system, when set up, you can point it at any object and press the "Identify" button, and it tells you what it is :)
