Music?
A homemade piano mashup of taylor swift's new years day and delicate. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the magnet sizes and drill bit sizes!
They worked for me! Your mileage may vary on larger models...
Less music and better audio of u talking
Legit point. I'll get better on the next one. Thanks!
RIP model
That bad? Oof.
@@jasonalwaysreadyyt Disagree with Mike. That model looks really nice. The heavy, rusty weathered look gives a unique touch. I reckon that since this heavy weathering is not the way GW paints, some fans may see this as too much but this is exactly how I imagine vehicles would look like after long battles.
@Hannah11876 thanks! Very kind! I agree with you, there's nothing clean about the grim dark future, and weathering is fun!
Looking great, you sold me on panel liner. I will never have the patience to do that many highlights though but congrats on the very detailed tutorial, esp on highlight positioning which most UA-cam painters refer to as « place volumetric highlights where the light would naturally hit » To make it short : love what you did with the model and the detailed explanation ❤
Thank you!
God I butchered these as a kid lol. Stripped and fixed them up recently. I'd recommend getting some 1500 grit or even 1000, helps a ton.
Yeah, I have some coming. Also some miliput putty to fill. Thanks,
Wizard of Meh sounds so strange without the vocals xD
I needed an instrumental. So, meh. :) Thanks for watching!
Came here looking for tips on painting the interior, but it’s already done before the video 😭
Oof, sorry.
Huh, a couples' painting channel. Neat and cute.
Haha, i do all the constructing, filming and painting, shes got the hard part. :)
@@jasonalwaysreadyyt Haha awesome. I am basing my Tau as fighting near and in a hive city, dark green as their primary colour. Lots of cork board and asphalt, planning how to have my Ghostkeels tepping up onto a roadway right now... I was hoping the leg would be a liiiittle more poseable.
I think not being able to totally rub off the oils, actually helped you out when adding texture, as it has more nuance to the white and looks more realistic. I must admit I've not touched oil washes yet. I bought some Ivory black and some burnt umber, but I never got the spirits to mix it (and keep forgetting to) I really need to try this technique. I do have some Isopropanol though, so I wonder f this will work.
Oil washes are the real game changer for me. I would recommend a light gloss varnish before applying and odorless mineral spirits. And thanks!
when you say "clearcoat" is that a brand of varnish, or something please? I live in EU, so wondering what the closest thing is. Like is it a gloss or satin or what? I have a matte and a gloss brush on and spray satin varnish.
Gloss works best for layers, then i do a matte coat to finish
I've not watched the whole thing yet, going to check it out later. just wanted to ask though, for your capillary, panel lining did you use a special product or just add some flow improver to paint or something, please? EDIT: ah I see you are using the Tamiya stuff. I like their products. I'm doing brown lines though, so would have to see if I can colour match something in this product or not. I know you can make your own though, just by putting some flow improver into some paint, and some people even just do it with water. Will have to experiment. These smaller guys, I think this tech will be very useful for them, I've not done it before though. I usually paint them in manually. I like using black contrast paint for black lines at the moment, it works really well. Admittedly this was for a slightly different style of panel lining though, where only one side has an edge, so it was more about building up pigment at the edge, and then cutting back in with the red to get a crisp line. You can also glaze out a fade from the black line as well, just depends what you are going for. I've been meaning to look up this capillary-action style of panel lining though, and just keep forgetting about it. Just stumbled upon your channel when looking at Tau schemes on google.
Thanks. Yes, the tamiya works well. Though im moving toward all oil washes now. I tried enamel washes but i like oil the best!
@@jasonalwaysreadyyt I have some winsor and newton oils I need to try out still. I really want to get some of those abeltung ones, or whatever they are called though. They're supposed to be really good quality oil paints. I seen AK sell a wooden box with the whole set in, so tempting to get it. I'm a sucker for nice boxes. LoL. My windsor ones are called "winton oil colour" so they probably aren't the nicest ones, but the proper artist ones cost so much. Do you know if the winton oil colour is good enough for doing oil washes?
@@D00M3R-SK8 i dont. I just use bob ross brand. I think if it says artist quality it should be fine. Have fun!
@@jasonalwaysreadyyt Thanks. Yeah dude I think this is there cheaper version, but I know people do use it for oil washes. it's definitely on the cheaper end for oils though. it's likely about as cheap as you would want to go, being a cheaper line of a good brand like w&n. Not sure if we have the Bob Ross ones in the UK. probably get them online though. The Abeiltung ones are supposed to be really good. I think AK makes makes them.
Will the oil still stain, even if I use a clear coat? Because i like the stained colour
Maybe a bit, but with a clear coat and mineral spirits to remove, you should be good to go. Less aggressive removal can leave the staining you are looking for, or dont clear coat
found this video as a new miniature painter. Is the panel liner similar to nuln oil?
Similar but different. Nuln oil is a wash that is sometimes slathered everywhere on a model. A panel liner is made for panel lines and crevices, will usually look better tidy. Nuln oil is a wash that is acrylic based and will have a softer effect. Panel liner is oil(?) based and will be opaque and bold. Nuln oil cleans up and can be modified with water. Panel liner will need a solvent base to remove and clean. Happy painting!
i'm new to the hobby. built this guy last night, primed him black and will work on him this weekend. my question is, what does putting a coat of white over black primer do? i get the grey zenithial being bright progressing to darker gray towards the bottom, but is the initial black primer doing anything with it completely covered in white, or is it just there to hold the white paint?
If i was a better painter and used thinner paints over many layers, the zenithal would help provide a more eye and light pleasing gradient to the model. If you are painting a mostly white model and are not pro, you could probably skip the initial black spray. Thanks for watching!
Great tutorial, ive chosen vior'la and have 2 ghostkeel to paint, cant wait to get to it. Learnt a lot from this video, thanks
Glad to hear it! Looking forward to putting mine on the board for 10th.
Where did you get the panel line stuff from?
I think Amazon, but could have been a local shop.
This is amazing imma go buy magnets today
I recommend it highly! I bought a little kit with a drill included so I knew I would have the right size.
nice base. i´ll copy that, if you dont mind
Haha, no problem at all. Flattered. Thanks!
Great work! Looks really good!
Thanks! I loved painting all these monsters!
Reconocí la tonada de Goblin Slayer de fondo... Al estilo lofi... Simplemente hermoso...
gracias, me encanta ese programa
nice painting, it look 10/10.
Thank you! I prefer working with larger models. There were more techniques I wanted to try, on to the next one... some day. :)
very nice colors, i think viorla sept looks cool
I agree! That's why even shadowsun got the viorla treatment from me, thanks for watching!
Why didn’t you use the panel liner on the recessed lines like usually do?
In this case, I wanted to try out the oil paints. I certainly could have used the panel liner, but on a larger model I think it's more efficient to use oil. Oil paints also let you have more control over color. It depends on the effect you want to go for. Most people just use nuln oil! I like to try something new on each model.
Haven't got a Ghostkeel yet, but at the rate I'm watching Ghostkeel painting videos, it won't be long before I buy one :) So thx for the detailed video! How long did it take you, to paint it?
I'm not sure. I had 2 hours of footage and probably painted twice more over that at least. I'd estimate 6-10 hours. I like painting bigger models a lot better. Thanks for watching!
Can I ask what is that tool you use for the wash?
I'm not sure which tool you mean? what's the timestamp that you see it at?
@@jasonalwaysreadyyt I am so sorry, I watched so many of your videos in one sitting, I got them mixed up. I was thinking about this: ua-cam.com/video/QmEZydRMgZA/v-deo.html
@@balazskovacs5753 no problem at all! That is Tamiya panel liner and the brush comes attached to the lid of the bottle. It works great.
One question, I'm starting to paint minis and I'm used to build Gunpla, so I already have different accent colors from Tamiya. For pannel lining the minis, do I need to apply any sort of gloss coat before or the paint will resist the brushing with the cuetip directly? Thank you.
I would recommend a gloss before. It will probably be mostly ok but it can stain. Same for using oil pants for panel lining. I regret not clear coating before on most models I've done. Also, a q-tip is aggressive, try to use the makeup foam based ones if you can.
Great job but I feel like Tau are too simple for the classic method of painting. I feel like they end up looking "overpainted" if you know what I mean, too many layers of paint for not a lot of detail in the model.
I'll have to think about that, what do you mean?
@@jasonalwaysreadyyt Kinda hard to explain, but I feel like the simple armour panels and smooth surfaces of the tau show imperfections in paint jobs too much (where paints overlap, uneven coats etc.), so this method looks much better on more detailed models like adeptus mechanicus for example. The end result you got is still really good, just the method doesn't suit Tau that much.
@@Pughhead you're probably right. Tau are a bit cleaner than the others. And white paint shows everything. :|
Currently painting mine and I was very unhappy with it until I saw your paint job and now I feel less bad about mine.
Seems kinda rude. Cheers anyways!
Amazing Job 😍 I Just got a Tau Army and i think i'll follow this painting Tutorial to make IT Shine 🤟 Thanks for Sharing
Thanks! There's probably more to come... :)
Maybe it's just me, but I can hardly make out Jason's voice over the background music! Would recommend speaking more loudly or simply adjusting the audio. Thanks for the guide regardless.
Noted! Turning on the closed captioning might help, too. Thanks for watching.
cool base.. and thanks fore the video, that is just i need.
You're welcome. Glad that it was helpful!
Good job 👍🏼
Thanks!
It wouldn't be better to magnetize before painting?
That would for sure be the optimal choice.
This looks so good, it's great work
Thanks, I appreciate it!
The little nics on the top of the helmets drive me crazy lol
I know!
Hum, nether tried enamel but this result give me the will to. By the way, nice montage. I like the idea off parallel shots when painting the same colour
Thanks! Enamel is not hard. The parallel shot idea is to keep the video shorter. You don't need to see every brush stroke to tell the story. Thanks for watching!
Way too small for my old eyes. Nice job.👍
Haha, the bigger models are a lot easier on my eyes, too. THANKS!
Love your Tau painting content! Very few creators out there cover painting the Tau and so I’ve been loving your stuff. Hope you keep uploading!
Thanks! I paint a lot more than I play. Unfortunately, the next upload won't be tau... but tau will be making a comeback after, just in time for the new codex! (Maybe). Thanks for watching!
@@jasonalwaysreadyyt Ooo, can't wait! When does the new codex come out?
Sounds like jan/Feb 2022. Not long!
Wow, I thought I was thinking my paints too much, but you thinned them much more, and I love the effect. Gonna try this on my next stealth unit.
Thinning more means more layers to get opaque. It's tough to get it just right sometimes. Thanks for watching!
Did you used some varnish before using panel line? Or is it used straight on acrylic paint?
I didn't, but you might have better results if you do. It may stain the paint a little, even after it's cleaned up.
@@jasonalwaysreadyyt Thank you. I will try without as I don't want to spray all miniature back an forth ( gloss/mat).
@@Wallensteinwojtek I think it's fine if you make it a light coat. Report back your results!
Hey man im new to your channel and ive watched a couple of your tau paint jobs and im hooked. Someone said they would leave it at 4:30 and id probably do the same but it turned out lookimg super unique !
It is certainly grungy. I experimented and think it came out ok. I'll try something different next time.. thanks for watching!

Taylor Swift for the win!
My sister in law provided a nice little mashup, thanks for watching!
So im a necron/blood angels main; May i ask why you chose the tau empire instead of other factions?
I'm a secret weeb. :O but I like the aesthetic and the gundams. I also better liked the idea of a gun line army, so I have big hopes on a new codex. :D
Hi I was just wondering what the dropper you used for the armour was? Cheers
Not exactly sure what you mean, but I think you're referring to the Tamiya panel line accent color. Otherwise leave a timestamp and I can try to answer more!
@@jasonalwaysreadyyt sorry I meant what did you use to apply the panel line colour. Cheers
@@krowkhan5621 oh, it comes with the panel liner, Attached to cap. Pointy and convenient.
@@jasonalwaysreadyyt o hahah i love how easy it looks to apply. thanks for getting back to me so quick, also you models look great keep up the good work!
@@krowkhan5621 it is easy! But be neat. It cleans up mostly without staining with white spirits.
Models look great! Love the attention to the bases, especially the wire on the crisis suit.
That's my favorite part. I'm going to try be more bold than bits of mud and rocks on a base. Some of my latest models use sprue for fenceposts.
Great job looks fantastic and is sort of the style I'm aiming for so really inspiring thanks! Really like the back and fourth commentary, helps challenge your ideas and add some comedy
I try my best to keep it entertaining, thanks!
I adore that montage of clipping at the beginning, so satisfying

большое спасибо. Мне нравится Tau
Incredible work! I’ve been considering just getting a box of Fire Warriors just for the heck of it. Never seen that pane line accent stuff before, need to get myself a bottle.
Thanks! Not all of them got this level of effort. The panel liner is great, best with a dull cote before you use it and clean up with white spirits. Definitely darker than something like nuln oil.
