Planning during a Pandemic: Moving to Virtual Public Meetings
Great presentation! I work in a city planning office and I love the idea of connecting more with those in the community that are advocates and getting some of our decision makers out on a walk as well. There is a lot of this I advocate for, but it is difficult when other city departments are against some of the issues combined with the NIMBY pushback as well. I will have to share this presentation for sure and keep working to build more support within the community.
Good content. However, the lack of critical materials needed to produce large-scale numbers of electric vehicles (and the negative environmental impact of mining those materials) has not been logically thought out at the federal level. The banning of internal combustion engine vehicles within the next 1-2 decades is simply not feasible in any logical way. The throughput of rare earth materials needed to produce vehicles in such a large scale would, in itself, take several decades--never mind the actual construction of the vehicles and the needed infrastructure to support such vehicles. Although I own and enjoy my electric vehicle, I recognize these barriers to wider use and integration into the transportation system. I believe this is a good topic for long-range planners to keep in mind, I believe there are many other issues in planning that will impact comprehensive planning in the next 2 decades more than electric vehicle planning (AI, economic stressors, continuing urbanization, etc.).
This webinar is very useful for communities seeking to facilitate electric vehicle use. (Robert N Brown -- Cleveland Heights)
