KTM 1290 Super Adventure S "SMT" Build Ep 1 | Walk around
Hell yeah awesome bike fella !!!
I had the exact same problem this weekend, steam coming from the front end, water coming from that pipe and onto the header pipe causing it to evaporate
😂😂
How is the bike with te headshake problem? Have any problems with it?
Hi, I have zero head shake. I am editing a video of my track day last Monday so you will see the handling of the bike at all speeds and in the corners 👌🏻
Thumbs up for ya ! I have a SDR 2019 white and orange from Sweden 🇸🇪🙏
Nice! I had that colour way on my first superduke but had black wheels fitted instead of the orange. How long have you had it?
@@Lighthouse_Rides Mine is also whit the black wheels . I bought it 2 yesrs ago so its still going. Best bike ill ever had but's its freakyn expensive to own here in Sweden 🤣
Damn, that thing started like shit
😂😭 Cold starts with a lithium battery on a big engine in winter. Summer starts easy on the button.
i love it
Thanks Rocko ✌🏼
No trail and rake mention of what the bike was before vs what it is now. This is critical and I wouldn't recommend this project unless you can plan the trail and rake outcome
Hi Jordan, Physically measuring it is irrelevant to an extent as what can you compare it to? The turning is perfect, and stability is improved. There is no front wheel wobble at slow or high speed like there is with the 19" front wheel, and the agility is improved but not dramatic. So, in every aspect, it's improved ?
🤦🏻♂️
Great work. Do you know if its possible to fit a 1290 super duke r exhaust on a 1290 super adventure ?
Hi bud, only the end can on our models. The headers won't fit but there are titanium options on the market from arrow and Doberman
Hi buddy, amazing work. Do you happen to sell these kits by any chance? I think our motorcycle community needs more adventurous riders like you and this is one way i would like to show my support.
Hi buddy, I think I spoke to you on instagram ? Unfortunately I can't sell kits as it would leave too much liability and I wouldn't want the worry on myself if someone fitted something wrong.
Cant find thosr side mirrors on the handguards, which do you use??
They are a Rottweiler replica set off ebay, can't find them on there at the moment. I will keep an eye out and drop a link when I see them
www.crtperformanceparts.co.uk/product-page/moto-tek-quick-flip-dual-sport-mirror-kits
perfect 😍
Thanks Alex ✌🏼 i definitely agree...but maybe just titanium headers to finish it off 😅
Useful info... Cheers for vid..
Thanks for watching Neil ✌🏼
Why make the 1290 into a race bike though? I love racing, love race bikes... But this isn't that. Is the allure because its 1.3l and the temptation is just there? I'm genuinely curious. I own the 2022 version of this bike (S model). But what the fuck is the point of making this a race bike as opposed to just buying or modding a smaller bike? This is just a case of doing it because you can... I've got my sights set on the 1390. Just don't understand this...
Hi bud, thanks for the comment/questions. As I say in the video, it's definitely not for everyone, but being 6ft 8in and 113kg, there aren't many bikes that suit me as well as this. I have the superduke too, but this still is a lot of fun to ride and very well suited to my style. The adventure s in standard form is a waste of its potential. The 1390 will see an SMT model release, which tells you everything about the market for something like this.
Have you tried to change or cut the rear fender? Its the only thing that looks huge and "not" sm on the bike.
Hi, thanks for your comment. I have looked into it and spoken with someone who has done it, but it involves 3d printing a bracket to hold the ecu that is stored in the tail fender between the indicators and registration plate that requires relocating to under the seat. Then you need to make good of the rear piece as the underside is all one piece. To me it's not worth the effort at the moment but I agree.
💯
🤙🏼💥
My radiator broke just below the mounting tabs on both sides - but I did come down hard from a particular wheelie that the holes appeared after - so most likely rider error 😂
Have you got any of the precautions in place like the rubber in the video?
Very cool, I am also in the middle of a superduke build, the gen 2 is my absolute favourite machine
I love it! It's such a great hooligan machine. The newer models definitely have a more racing appeal than this beast of a supermoto.
Hi . coud you please link the rear guard down below . :)
Hi, I forgot to put them in description. I will update now. Thanks for watching
This is my plan tho make it smt
The best mod you will ever do ✌🏼
Apart from the tank leaning on the radiator, the damage to it can also come from the side fairings. There's a possible fix mentioned in this video: ua-cam.com/video/9TPW9NLVg28/v-deo.html&pp=gAQBiAQB Basically what he does: from the bolt that connects the fairing to the radiator, removed the "washer" which is part of the bolt. This to ensure that the fairing is bolted loosely to the radiator and can vibrate by itself and not induce these vibrations to the radiator. I've done this myself over the winter, no leaking radiator yet (but the weather was shit so I haven't ridden since ;-P)
Ahh excellant thank you 👍🏼
Nice
Great savings to spend on other parts 😅
@@Lighthouse_Rides i know, i bought some in ali express too just not buying some parts that moves like nuts and bolts ofcourse,
@SuperDukEv0 yeah I'm not trusting them parts, but some items are such good copies it's like they come from the same factory!
@@Lighthouse_Rides thats true
cool !!!! I would like to know your opinion about riding this motorcycle on 17"
It's the best all do everything (tarmac) riding experience! Power, tourque, handling, comfort, fuel capacity it has it all.
so nice! well done!
Thank you for watching 🤙🏼
Thanks for the video. Great little build. As I said in the last video, I'm suprised that such a radical decrease in rake is still stable, but you seem happy with it? Only comment; a one-piece seat from the Adventure R would complete the look, in my opinion 😁
The rake isn't as dramatic of a change as you would think. It now just corners faster but is very stable. I get no high-speed wobble like people experience with the standard setup. (I believe a big factor of this is due to the angle back from 19" wheel) Regarding the seat, I actually have one in the garage. I will do a video with both for you to see 🤙🏼I need to do this for a seat height video I have planned.
Really enjoyed the video having owned 990 smt which I loved and two Super Duke Gt which I also love and do everything from touring to track days what you have built is my perfect bike great job 👍👍👍
Thank you, I agree 😆 I was very close to buying a 990 SMR but having owner a 1290 adv s before I wanted to complete this build.
Dumb question, but is there a reason/advantage to doing something like this vs. getting the SDGT?
@zakw3637 I can try to explain with experience, the SDGT is short and stubby like a Ducati Monster and SuperDuke. It easily lifts the front wheel under acceleration. Super fun if you want this but in my opinion rider should be careful at lean to not unload the front. The longer adventure wheelbase is more stable, can still lift the front wheel if the rider tries, and the seating geometry is more comfortable too. The downside to these adv's is that 19 inch front wheel is slower to change direction. Its noticeable if you ride such bikes back to back.
@@movem1 Right on, thanks for the reply. I'm torn between the sportiness of the SDGT and the comfort/stability of the SAS. Might just come down to the single-sided swing-arm, but would be nice to have the option of going off-road if I decide to at some point.
I did this to my 2020 SAS as soon as I got it. I did a lot of the same things , for tires I used Metzler Sportec M9RR's . A std 120/70 R17 with a 180/55 R17 rear. I took of hand quards and used bar end mirrors, Denali D4's, Then for the engine Rottweiler stage 5 intake, Arrow racing header, Austin Racing 250 mm V3, I also did a Dabrabbit vinyls wrap kit. My front rotors are Galfer Wave rotors. Lastly I replaced the stock damper with a Hyperpro RSC damper . I really do like the short Adv R screen smoked. For me, I am 270 lbs, so I upgraded the mono shock spring rate which made a huge difference in handling. Almost forgot, one last thing I replaced the Adventure footpegs with Puig 40mm offsets and Puig racing foot pegs. This place the pegs approximately 1" high and😂 1" back. This changed the ergo geometry just enough to put you a little more aggressive over the bike. Awesome build though. There are rumors KTM may actually make a 1390 SMT . good thing back in 2020 I did not wait. It is a kick ass machine.
That thing looks amazing. Great job. I have been thinking about getting a SAS or a SDR for a while. I know think I want to make this. Looks incredible. Take it all your electronics work as before, no suspension issues or anything?
Hi mate, spoken on instagram, but for anyone else reading the comments, I'll reply. All electronics work perfectly. I have this and the gen 2 Superduke R and there's a case for both. If I was to choose one, it would be the SMT.
Thanks now i need a KTM 1290 Adventure/SMT. I just almost finished my 990 SMT haha 😂 But man you just modified the Adventure S to how i would love it most! The looks and stance is so aggressive now, i'm really curious how it handles on track. Cheers
Thank you 🤙🏼 atleast you know where the progression is, the 990 SMT is still an amazing bike thats not depreciating in value and rare to see on the road. Enjoy the ride 🙏🏼
don't worry you can always fit in a 1290 adv engine on your 990 smt
@@noxmas74that would make it a true weapon 😈
Cool as buddy. 🙂👍 I
Thank you 🤙🏼just finished cleaning it after filming the wheel conversion video. Can't wait to be back out on it in a week of two! POV video coming.
I love it !
Thank you Mr plumber man
The beast that makes my house shake when you ride past 🔥💪🏼 Love it mate!
Thanks for the support mate!
This is a bike that KTM should make or should have made. It's what all the 990 SMT owners, like myself, want. And Kiska, KTM's design company, could really learn a thing or two about design from this build.
Thank you ! I hope they do, they have been seen testing. I want to see a full power model to compete with the M1000XR and Ducati Multistrada V4 RS. Before I did this build I was on the fence of buying a 990 SMR.
There are spy shots of a 1390 Super Duke GT, 1390 Super Adventure and a 1390 SMT. Fingers crossed that the SMT goes in production, I currently ride the 890 SMT, a 1390 will be an instant buy for me.
Bike needs a clean 😅
Top priority on the to do list!
Would be keen to see what the difference is in riding from before the conversion.
POV ride along will definitely be coming, just need a nice dry day.
have you dropped the rear at all to compensate for the 25mm drop on the front or does it handle ok being that much lower on the front end?
I wonder about this as well. Personally, I wouldn't want a lowered front end, but maybe that's me.
I will actually make a video on this topic as it is a great question. The handling is incredible, the best I have experienced on a big bike. The change in wheel size impacts the geometry in a positive way as it puts the bike more on its nose creating a very easy and accurate turn in. As standard the bike is made to sit back for comfort with pillion and luggage. Some people lower the front on the triple clamps with standard wheel as a way of improving this without a wheel swap.
Hi bud, not sure if you got the notification too but I replied to this question above.
Did you have to use a spacer plate for the ABS ring?
Hi Nick, the abs ring itself isn't spaced, but the wheel and disc are. I have today filmed the full conversion walk through and will post tomorrow 6pm uk time.
Noiccee 😍🔥
The one and only Sam V Bikes 🙌🏼💥🤙🏼
Beautiful bike 😊
Thank you, I absolutely love it! Even with the superduke, it's still my favourite.
@@Lighthouse_Rides looks really nice Check my channel. I’ve done some mods on my sf v4 and bmw gs You might like them
I’ve got a 2019…any tips on getting the stock mirrors off??
Hi bud, lift up the rubber cover and get a spanner on there. Will remove easily. I will have a video up in the next week with the mirrors I'm fitting. They are really smart and discreet.
How difficult is to convert to super duke front end? Looks amazing..
It's not too difficult but takes a bit of effort with the little parts. I will be posting the video on "how to" in the next couple of weeks.
Amazing build! 🤙🤙
Thank you bud, next episode will be coming in the next 2 weeks.
Stooooopid 🤔
Do yourself a favor and get an adjustable steering damper. One of the best things most SDR guys do. Also, do you know, do you have the Akra map or a PowerCommander installed on the bike? I'm going to try and make a video on mine sometime this winter. Ride fun!
Which steering dampner have you got or recommend? When I had my previous duke a lot of people mentioned heavier fluid as a temporary fix but definitely upgrade. I just have the akra map at the moment. Definitely get some vids up!
@@Lighthouse_Rides I personally went with the Matris race replica, but their standard I’m sure is just as good. I tried to do the heavier fluid on the stock unit, but it eventually started to leak. These bikes are true gems.
I have this one too. I wish they had stuck closer to this look. Its still the coolest looking superduke ktm have produced in my opinion. The later years are losing that industrial look. Cool bike
My favourite too, the perfect balance of that big supermoto style and hypernaked. Which colour have you got ?
Nice bike 🏍 Fu#k off the evo crash knobs they will total the bike off like they did to my bike , crack the frame.
Wow really ?? I have heard some crash bungs like this can either make the bike roll or crack frames.
@Lighthouse_Rides yep the can crack it and make the bike flip. My poor 2018 aprillia tuono factory v4 1100 😭😭
@@repsolcbr2543 got me worried now, remove or not to remove 😅
@Lighthouse_Rides Ask around , Ask some track riders. I know by experience if l didn't have them my bike it would of been repaired.
Racers run crash rails on track bikes. The Tuono actually has a great r&g set that's a crash rail with two mount points and you can mount a mushroom on top of that for street riding. It's basically flush with the fairing and the point is to allow the bike to slide but not damage the frame.
What rims did you use to do the conversion?
Hi, gen 1/2 superduke front wheel and standard rear wheel. Aiming to get a more detailed video on the conversion in the next 2 weeks.
@@Lighthouse_Rides thx
Amazing conversation. I am looking for extra lights are you happy with yours? Which brand did you choose?
Hi, thanks for you comment. I am trying to find out the brand and all come back to you. They are great but only a cheap option not OEM quality.
Que feo se ve así ese motor
The engine is ugly 😅 first time I have heard that.
Looks the nuts. Given me a few ideas on mine thanks Jon.
Thanks Jon all the best with the build!
