Implicit Bias in Medicine "The Elephant in the Waiting Room" | The Empathy Project
Переглядів 2,5 тис.Рік тому
Description: "The Elephant in the Waiting Room” addresses implicit bias in medicine. The story features a White male doctor and a Black female patient whose encounter illustrates that medical care is more than a diagnosis, it’s personal. Empathy shows up as a literal elephant in the room who helps to mitigate the implicit bias each holds for the other, resulting in trust and good medical care. ...

Dr. Sidney LaPook returns to Batilly

In October, 1944, Captain Sidney LaPook was a dentist serving in Patton's 3rd Army, stationed in Batilly, a small town in France. One day, he was asked by the mayor's nephew - a farmer - to help a cow that had been injured by schrapnel. He sewed up the large wound, gave the cow some precious antibiotics, and left town about ten days later. In 1957, he and his wife, Elsa, returned to Batilly to ...

WWII veteran Dr. Sidney LaPook tries to re-enlist at age 97

On July 2, 2016, my father told me about trying to re-enlist in the Army at age 97. He died 6/29/18. He was a WWII veteran, part of General Patton's 3rd Army, and I'm confident he would have said wearing a face mask to combat Covid-19 is a piece of cake compared to the Battle of the Bulge.

On June 4th, 2020, I interviewed Joseph Allen (MPH, D.Sc.) of Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He believes "we can save lives and the economy" if we understand science-based strategies to decrease infection from SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. He says we are in a "sick building era", and we need to address issues like ways to improve ventilation in order to create "healt...

If that stamp states MENTAL ILLNESS, you can expect an eye roll and the doctor walking out of the room if you try to explain anything from pain to any other symptoms you may have because you are mentally ill "you are making it all up, it is all in your head!!"

In 1973 we were in the same state the world is in today, Then a horse comes along and makes us forget our problems and helps us remember what it was like to feel good again. Please Lord bless us once again with another Secretariat.

The horse was magic. The people behind the scenes whom had his back was so much more interesting than a made up movie script. Secretariat was a gift. He was the GOAT! The book Secretariat by Bill Nack, is a great one. Wonderful writer.

I find it interesting the timing how Chic Anderson describes Secretariats performance "He is moving like a Tremendous machine" just as the camera (mysteriously) catches the American Flag (Red, White & Blue) in the forefront of Secretariat (Big Red, White & Blue Jockey silks). It was definitely Supernatural & of God..this Country wasn't without its problems but before we took God out of the equation the USA 🇺🇸 was a Tremendous machine too. I Thank God for Truly Blessing America with Secretariat, Chris Chenery & Family, Ron Turcotte & Team !!🙏✝️🙏 God Bless America we are so in need of Him🙏

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I'm now older in years but as crazy as it sounds I think of what I would feel like to have been turcott in especially this tremendous machine experience..to think all those human lives connected to the fame of a legendary horse! What a notion... human beings all being led down their own path of life to understand that a humble horse created by Jehovah God..as the biblical record testimony spoken to a complaining Job and Jehovah said who are you o man did you give the horse its power it laughs at the prospect of death! So how must Ron Penny the trainer feel to be allowed the privilege of association with one of God's masterpieces

A great story, but why use such a worn out/bedraggled "print" of the June 9, 1973, Belmont race? There are some very well restored (and preserved) "clips" of this famous race, which look as though they were filmed just last Tuesday (the bright blue sky, lovely green-leafed trees, and glistening horses were on full display).

Thank God we had secretariat. We were in a dark time and in that shed on March 30, 1970 God poked out his finger on that little foal and said you are perfection and you are going to bring this country together. You will run like Pegasus and nobody will ever forget you. You are my gift to the world.

Today they don’t even know how to run a horse for more than one of the three races before they put them in a big race. I don’t know what happened to horses after the 70s or after the 80s they just desolated. But thank God we had a secretariat and he made up for all the miserable years since then because every year we can think I triple crown time I was secretariat and how his record sounds every year we get to salute a gray horse because there were any around ours.
