Will you help me? I culled all but 1 drake in my muscovy flock. He has 4 hens. I'm thinking this is his first spring as an adult. The hens have started flying away from him when he tries to mate (they fly back after a while) . He catches them, eventually. But if one he's after flies away, he just goes for whoever is closest that he can catch. They aren't laying any eggs at all and are all laying age. I was thinking it might be seasonal, but my query is: should I completely separate the drake?
If your goal is to have eggs, I would separate or sell your drake, since he is only going to be good for reproducing. I tend to keep my drakes because I like to have ducklings in the spring! If you are sure that your hens are mature, they may be too stressed out from the drake to lay.

Ms. Rae: Do you feel the floating duck house offers some protection? Do your ducks ever overnight it there? I have an island within a pond with a dock/bridge between land and the island. Do you think ducks would stay on such a set up? I could cordon off some off some of the island access with electric fencing. Looking for advice on multiple options, with one goal of letting them have more free range yet protect them adequately.. Any advice welcomed...
Hi! I have had my ducks overnight it out on the duck house, but it is not very safe to do so, because some predators can swim! I would recommend locking them up during the night time. The floating duck house is more like a place for them to relax during the day time. I think I have a video on our duck pen that we put them in at night if you want to check that out :) Thank you for reaching out!

Hi! Well, it was probably a few weeks after they had matured to their full size. Once they have lost all their baby feathers and look full grown, they should start laying!

Hi Leah, I am sorry for not mentioning! Duck eggs are much richer than chicken eggs! This makes them useful for a hearty breakfast, or even to make a cake more moist!

So is your bed lofted? I’ve been debating and I see some loft beds are so high (I really don’t want that) but I can’t tell if yours is. And that’s how I want my bed to look since I want to be able to put some stuff under it. I am going to ISU this fall btw!!!!
Hello! Sorry for such a late response! That is great that you are coming to ISU! My bed is not lofted, it is on its highest notch it can go without a loft!
Hey does the curtain over the closet and the curtains in the room come with the room ? I’m moving into Hines in the fall
Hi, the window curtains come with the room, but the closet curtain we just bought a rod and a curtain from Walmart to make that, it doesn’t come with the room.
ItsSarahRae and does the bathroom already have a retractable rod in it or do we need that too ?
Hi! Sorry for the late response! The shower rod does not retract, but it does come with the room! So you won’t need to bring one of your own!

shyla eubanks HI! That’s awesome! Not all dorms come with a bathroom in the room. I am unsure of all the dorms that ISU offers to freshman, but I know that Hines is not available to freshman. However, other dorms that freshman are sometimes assigned are Pickerl and Burford. Other than those two the only other ones I know that have bathrooms are Hines and Jones which are for upper classmen. When you get your dorm assigned I can let you know if it has a bathroom or not for sure!

shyla eubanks hi!!! I go to ISU currently. The towers (Rhoads, Cromwell, Mills, and Blumberg) don’t have private bathrooms. Erickson doesn’t either. Hines, Jones, Burford, and Sandison all have bathrooms. :)
