Inspired, not retired
We left the working world about 5 years ago, moved from New York City to our home in East Hampton, got a place in Bangkok and now spend about 9 months in Asia and 3 in the States living life to the fullest! We started this UA-cam channel to share our experiences and hope it may serve as an inspiration for those of you contemplating a life change. We hope you enjoy the journey, however unconventional it may be!
* Here is an interview of us sharing the details of our move to Thailand: ua-cam.com/video/557HXgggHK0/v-deo.html&si=L1UdvX8KW-o3U2tp

Thailand's Khanom & Sichon Beaches: No Tourists. No Crowds. Just Tropical Bliss.
In this 8th and final video of our Southern Thailand Road Trip series we're venturing off the beaten path to uncover the hidden gems of Khanom and Sichon beaches. What the fvck is the Bay of Thailand? Did you discover a new body of water? Who the fvck are you, Ferdinand Magellan?
Where is the nearest hospital ? You will find that is a main reason almost NO expats lives there....Usually you are a little older when coming here to live. That is a serious issue. You will find out the first time something is really wrong and you sit in the car one hour driving to the nearest medical post that is not even a fully equiped hospital. There are not many of those hospitals in Thailand and they're all in densely populated area's. The feeling when close to dying knowing you have no option but to hope you'll last another hour.....yeah that's a real partypooper. Then if you are younger and have children...Where is the nearest school and what kind of school is it ? Most good schools are not there but somehwere more populated. ETC. Nice holiday location that's it
Was a hidden gem, now a magnet for expat refugees from Samui and other places ruined by developers and tourist
Looks like a touristtrap to me. You think you gong naive. ?
Khanom and Sichon are great places for mature expats away from the tourist trail. That was the point of this video.
Hoping that all is going well with you two. We met briefly on the flight here from Dubai last month and had a chat about The Bronx. George
Good to hear from you and I hope all is well. Not sure how we can connect without plastering our contact info on YT...
If you are still in the condo that you told me about on the flight, then I could send you a message through the post office with my number and email.
Just let me know. If not, perhaps we’ll bump into each other somewhere along the way.
Not sure if you received my other message or not. My thought was to sent you my phone number and email through the post office if you are still living in the same condo that you had told me you were staying at.
This channel definitely deserves more subscribers!
Thank you so much for the encouraging words. We're just doing this UA-cam thing for fun but it is rewarding to hear people like what we do.
Great video thank you am heading for my first trip with the family next month and heading g down this stretch so definitely checking your recommendations
Have a great time! Hopefully you'll have a rental vehicle so you can explore the area.
สวัสดีค่ะ🙏🇹🇭
🙏
LOLSTER, BEACHES are priced for foregners so the HOUSE and land prices are pretty steep compared to 5-10 inland in a small town with amenities, this North East coast get battered with the weather in the GULF which can whip up a storm quickly so be careful out there, suggest other places like Chumpon, even Krabbi is cheaper. (Outside of Phuket, HuaHin, ChangMai, Bangkok and Pattaya)
It's always more expensive at a beach, that's not a foreigner thing. But yes, the surf can get rough at times during the off season. Still, we think it's a great area.
Like the videos and exploring awesome beaches that are NOT yet tourist traps also like the soundtrack music
Thank you for the kind words. It's tough to stay ahead of the tourism parade so it's refreshing to find places like Khanom, Sichon and Baan Krud beaches. Happy travels!
Great video
Thank you 🙏
Great information, we’ve never heard of it before ❤
Not cheap, not for everybody....check nicer beaches Khao Lak; same high prices
We also did a video in Khao Lak. The beaches are probably a bit better because it's the Andaman vs. the Gulf but its very close. The real difference is your preference for a sunrise or a sunset beach. I know, tough choice...
Nice area here in sichon and khanom. Good for retirees who wanna have slow life
Yes, we were very impressed with the lifestyle on offer in the area. Perfect beach retirement place.
Hmm, nice places. A buck twenty a night for the Sirarun Resort is over priced but sure is nice.
That villa was about twice what you quoted and in our experience in Thailand it was worth every baht.
@@unconventionaljourney That's just what I found online while I watched your video. I tried it for this month and in December, which is the time that I will be down in that area...they may be raising their prices ???? I would love to stay there but at those prices and traveling for months, it isn't going to happen for me.....thanks for the vid though.
@@makiavelli6101 Check out the Sunshine Paradise Resort just a little north. See the first video in our southern road trip series as we stayed there and it was a bit cheaper. Good luck!
It was great meeting you both in the Hamptons! Thailand is amazingly beautiful & it looks like you are enjoying what it has to offer. Love the beaches there!
Great meeting you guys too and hope to see you over here. Soon. Enjoy fall in NYC!
Nice. But thousands of these videos attract tens of thousands more people.
Our channel is pretty small so I don't think we'll move the needle but I think about it every time we showcase some of the lesser known areas of Thailand.
Hey guys, we just subscribed to your channel. You do all the things we love to do when we"re in Thailand😊❤
Wow, we are definitely cut from the same cloth ;-). We just got back to Thailand last week and will be here until May or June. Please let us know when you'll be here next and hopefully we can get together and maybe share an adventure. Love your channel!
@@unconventionaljourney Thank you so much! And yes we would love to meet you! We'll be in Thailand in October and Feb-March. 🙂👍
We already have travel plans for October so let's shoot for your February/March trip. @@thethailandtravellers
@@BobSchiff Perfect! Enjoy your travel in October😊
this amazing!!!
Thanks! Are you on fb? Not sure if it's you I sent a friend request.
Wow beautiful beach life🥰 morning swim!
Thanks Noriko! It really is beautiful You & Mel should definitely take a trip here!🫰
@@unconventionaljourney We really enjoy your adventure😃😃Thank you Paula & Bob!🫰
Thanks for the tips and another great video 🙏😊
Coming from Bangkok it looks like the quickest way to get to Sirarun Resort from Bangkok would be to drive right? Was that the most "tourist free" beach in that area?
We drove but I think there might be a train that stops in the area too. This whole area has not been hit by mass tourism so the beaches are all pretty nice. It's more a matter of finding the right accommodations for you. We like Sirarun and also the resort nearby Sunshine Paradise that was in the first video of this road trip series. Best of luck and have a great trip!
Great update on your adventures...Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching. This one showcased a few great places well off the tourist trail.
looks very fun! water festival! and we wanna go the freshly fried chicken place!🍺🤩🤩
That chicken was world class!
Wonderful adventure....thanks for sharing I love the water festival !! Would love to hear more of the prices for hotels and meals please.
We're kinda new to this UA-cam thing but in the future we'll try to remember to keep track of prices as we go. Thanks for the suggestion!
wow, is this the BMW motorbike? ok, I am a new motocyclist. Any recommendation where to rent a decent bike for Mae Hong Son trip?
I've rented from Pop in Chiang Mai before I bought the BMW. Here's the Google Map link: maps.app.goo.gl/avKqeyqzpPAbepdS6
Yes, my bike is a BMW 1250 GS factory lowered. I recommend POP in Chiang Mai (maps.app.goo.gl/Mrms4qickWkHZy7M8) for rentals. Several years ago I rented a Honda Africa Twin from them and had a great experience.
Wow, you are an actor! So nice meeting you both at Nick & Tony’s! Keep having fun!
Great meeting you guys too. Hopefully we can share our next dinner together in Thailand!
I thought this. Guy was married
I am ... who do you think was behind the camera 🤔
Wow we've never seen before So beautiful place! we really enjoy your brave journey!🤩
Thank you for the kind words. This was a beautiful place.
LOVE this and kept smiling the WHOLE time - gorgeous and so happy to see you both experiencing this! Wow!
very nice episode
Thank you!
Unconventional-amazing ~ 📽
Wow many limestone small islands! I've never seen before, interesting! I don't know why, but it's a healing form beautiful🥰
Phang Nga bay is one of the most beautiful and geologically dramatic places in the world. If you get the chance to visit ... go!
❤😊 so beautiful
Beautiful. Of all the beaches you’ve been to in Thailand, which one has the nicest water?
Great question! If you're just asking about water we'd have to say something on the Andaman coast only because the Chao Phraya river empties into the Bay of Thailand so any of the beaches surrounding the bay while fine can't possibly be as clean as those of the Andaman. If you're really asking about beaches then that's a really tough question as there are many criteria that go into evaluating a beach. Bottom line is we don't have a best but our favorite is the beach at Prachuap Kiri Khan that we showcased in Episode #1 of this Southern Thailand Road Trip series.
Wow.. Thai curry, Pool Bar and Sunset ! Gorgeous beach life😆🍹
I must say...we are loving it!!! Thanks for your comments 🙂
Thanks for sharing ! Are you guys on Instagram as well ?
Sorry but I'm not on any social media except for this UA-cam channel.
Gorgeous!
Thanks Jami. Come visit and we'll put you in our next video...
Thanks for sharing your wonderful adventure...that curry looked amazing!
We were blown away by how good the food was at that restaurant.
So beautiful 💗
Wow 🤩 We enjoyed beach life with you guys! Beautiful and Relax!!♪

Quite the contrary...
Love this so much!! Thank you for sharing ❤ Miss you,, Cheers
Glad you are enjoying the videos. You'll have to come experience it for yourselves. Miss you too!
Would have been 12.00 a night a few years ago
Yeh… my home
You are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place. I hope it stays that way.
Love it. Awesome side of thailand!!
It was island living as it should be. ... no cars, no big resorts, no mass tourism.
👏👏👏
🤗
So beautiful ❤
Thank you!
Nice, I just discovered your channel. Love the commentary about the community and their lives. It will be great if you can show food options by the resort and around the vicinity
Glad you found us and thanks for the compliments! Funny you should mention the lack of food commentary because virtually all our other videos are food heavy. When we stay at the 2 resorts in Prachuap Kiri Khan we don't leave the place. The food at the resorts in good and we have many opportunities in our travels to eat more "local" fare elsewhere. That said there is a small town nearby that I'm sure has good options.
