Half Hour of Music Feb 2025
I perform monthly for three seniors care facilities here in Abbotsford, the Tabor Village sites. This half hour of my music is provided for the times I can't make it there in person, and for any other care home sites anywhere. God bless us, every one.

Two Little Orphans

Here's another in the series of recordings with the vintage Palm Beach guitar. The song is one my father sang to us when we were kids, using this very same guitar. The song itself goes back to 1900 or earlier with the earliest recording being by George Reneau in 1926.

Here's another in my series of videos featuring my vintage 1940 Palm Beach Guitar and the songs collected in the early 1940's by my Aunts Theresa and Lizzie. These same songs were sung by my Dan and my aunts using this same guitar some 80 years ago. Hobo Bill's last ride was written by Waldo O'neal and recorded by Jimmie Rodgers in 1929.

This was Gene Autry's first big hit in 1932, That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine. I'm playing it here on a family heirloom - a 1940 Palm Beach Parlor Guitar made by Harmony, who have been making guitars since 1892. Hope you enjoy it.

I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas

Here's my take on the 1953 hit by Gayla Peevey. It still recycles every Christmas. It's a good reminder not to get too wrapped up in gift giving.
Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream

I’ve been busy with live gigs this year. Great fun but it’s time to do some recording again. Here’s a song that’s been getting under my skin this week: Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream. Though written by Ed McCurdy in 1950, it seems especially relevant now.
It Gets Easier

Here's a song that expresses what I've been feeling about this stage of life: deciding what's most important and learning to say no to other things. "It gets easier... " Originally written and recorded by Willie Nelson in 2017 at the age of 84. Hope I'm still singing at 84.
Overdue Letters

Fifty two years ago, my long-time girlfriend moved away to another city to work and we kept in touch by letter. (No Facetime, text messages or Facebook then!) When her replies slowed down and eventually stopped, I wrote a song called Overdue Letters. I never sang it publicly but recently it resurfaced in my consciousness and morphed into this song. That breakup simply became a metaphor for all ...
Two Little Fishes and Five Loaves of Bread

This song is a shout out to an amazing Black woman you've probably never heard of, but who had a huge influence - Sister Rosetta Tharpe. She rose to fame in the 1930's and 40's as a gospel singer and carried on till her death in 1973. Three things were exceptional about her: first, she played guitar at a time when women just didn't do that. Secondly, she played a mean electric guitar in unique,...

Tears in Heaven

Here is a song to honor the memory of the infant daughter we lost at birth, and to acknowledge all those who have lost loved ones, especially children, in the last two years, and have not been able to mourn fully.

Just in time for Valentines Day, here is Kenny Loggins song from 1971, written for his brother upon the birth of their son. Dedicated to all those who have the joy of living with the love of their lives and bringing new life into the world.

Sinner Man

This song is now about a hundred years old but somehow seems appropriate for these apocalyptical times.
