Lake Catherine is not what it used to be. Heber Springs has two parks and trusty me when I say they would've beat Lake Catherine out of the ballpark for slot number 1. Especially the dam site campsite, that backs up to the Red River.

Next time after reaching the stall temperature. Instead of wrapping with foil try putting the roast in a aluminum pan add a little beef broth and cover with foil to finish the cook. Should come out moist and tender. I have the same Z Grill and the aluminum pan fits perfectly.

Bastrop is pretty but the road noise is awful! I thought Buescher was pretty and their trails are awesome! I love the CCC structures at both.

600 miles west, at Hueco Tanks, you can see huge rocks with large polished areas areas on them... These are known as 'Mammoth Rub' where the giant beasts would rub and scratch their backs.

Thanks for the video. All the parks you mentioned are wonderful and difficult to rank. My #1 has been Petit Jean. For another one that is close to the city, Pinnacle Mt. allows city dwellers a wonderful outdoor experience just minutes from downtown.

Yea I've been living in between the Bastrop and buesher all my life when I was a kid I would ride my bike every afternoon to fish there I caught many 9 and 8 pound Bass out of that lake. been about 5 years I havet gone to fish there It's only 2 miles away. I'm going this weekend thanks for the reminder. Now I'm 47.

Your not on the Gulf of Mexico there. It’s matagorda bay. The gulf is on the other side of Port O’Connor.

Great video I use to live in Bastrop Texas for quite a while really nice small town charm and one of the things that I extremely enjoyed was going to both of the state parks that are connected together the drive is amazing seeing all the pine trees and just enjoying nature both of those Parks actually have quite a bit to offer as far as hiking and biking and they also have that swimming pool area which is nice and big giant playground for the kids and of course now we live in Liberty Hill Texas so every chance we get we still go to Bastrop to visit friends and family and when we do of course we always stop by Buc-ee's before we go to the State Park👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks for visiting my little hometown! So much history here. So around the corner from Sengelman’s, right along US Highway 90, is a 4 or 5 story building called the Von Minden Hotel/Cozy Theater. It is no longer in operation, as it was sold a decade ago, and although it was partly refurbished, it has since been on the market and remains to this day. The history of it, is that it used to be one of the only hotel/theater combos in the entire country! It should have a historical marker designation in my opinion. The owners were the parents of Mama’s at Sengelman’s business owner, who’s name is Garrett, whose family I have known all my life. We were sad when it was sold. Garden Company is a great place! I worked there from 2016 to 2021 as a bartender and server. So many great memories of that place. Next time you’re through the area, they have a second location in Round Top, TX, which is about a 45 minute drive from Schulenburg. Cheers!
