I just visited Staunton recently for a weekend and the whole town is pretty eerie.. kept getting waves of nausea walking around, but I didn’t go up to this building. Did go to thornrose cemetery at night though! That was creepy. No encounters though. Even on the confederate mass grave

I was at Western State Hospital, I was a patient there in 77 and I can tell you some of the stuff that used to go on in there they actually gave me shock therapy all because my father molested me when I was a child and yes I acted out a little bit and yes I tried to take my life once but the stuff I suffered in there was more detrimental then what my father had done to me they kept me in straight jackets they used to beat me I got molested by staff so I am so glad they closed it down in 2000 I was only there for 6 to 8 months but it never leaves my mind

I think it’d be nice if someone bought it and did something like they do with the trans-Allegheny lunatic asylum. So many people from this area would be interested in it and it’d probably bring a lot of interest as well.

So, here is a little more info about the accident I believe you failed to mention, so before I state this, my source is from 611: The American Icon, produced by the Virginia Museum of Transportation, during the restoration of the 611. So what they state about the wreck, was like you stated before they were running behind schedule, and took the curve at a high rate of speed, the engineer failed to reduce the speed because he was believed to have suffered a heart attack, which what lead to the accident, and his death. But there’s some more info about it that I wasn’t sure you knew or not, but over all, nice video.

I live just outside of Staunton and actually worked right across the street from this place. Never knew it had such a horrific story behind it until now. One of my buddies recommended exploring it but I can't say i'm so sure about that after watching this.

I would suggest that the gray squirrel is responsible for the decline of many bird species. England declared war on the gray squirrel.

I'm staying here now. Walking the grounds at night is kind of creepy. Especially on the side with the graveyard. There are no lights. Even walking by the DeJarnette building the day feels a bit heavy. One of the lights keeps turning itself on even though we switch it off. And i heard yelling, probably just in my head, because my man didn't hear it.

I used to work at the Walmart right beside it. i always got a creepy feeling whenever we passed by this building.

I had 2 g grandfather s there. James Mcgraw 6th, was killed . Judah levi, 5th. Seriously hurt but survived. Lost eye. Leg, multiple bayonet wounds, 1 to head. After his release he went back to fighting. Marriage to james daughter Mary and had 10 kids. Was at Yorktown and the British surrender.

Was in this place in i do believe 1994 for 3 months before I was transferred creepy place back then I was only 9 years old a lot of wrongful stuff happened to two girls at night. there was a hell of a lot of abuse and other kids would say stuff about seeing shadows. kids that would act out would disappear sometimes for days at a time come back not the same and have bruises some child tried to rape me in there. I was in a room that seem like a jail cell brick walling a simple bed and a toilet bars on windows. I'd fall asleep in the bed wake up in a different room strapped to a bed and was injected with something to this day i dont know what it was but was told it was to help me. I barely ever got sleep there I was too afraid of everything tried to stay in my room for everything even when they tried to call me out for group. there was this one girl she was older that would not come out of her room for like 5 days straight and for some odd reason before that she was in the time out room for 2 days. some of us wouldn't be fed some of the food was bad one night the staff were missing and the day shift came in asking us where they were. This place was a horror movie and I have driven passed it a few times in my life and it still looks like a horror movie. I heard they were finally bulldozing it down, but many ppl that went there are victims I was signed over to the state of VA because my cracked out at the time mother couldn't "Handle me" being a simple child.

I went there last week and it’s so weird because you are nothing more than 1000ft away from a McDonald’s and a gas station but when your inside it feels like you 1000miles away

They dlsay there are portals up there. People have seen stuff come out of them. I.myself havent seen anything but i got the creeps being there

I have been looking for information on this place for a while. When I was there, it was Shalom et Benedictus, and it was a rehab for juveniles. I actually had the pleasure of going through there twice. I can't really remember the exact dates, but it was the early 90s. Speaking of hauntings, that place definitely had its fair share. The last time I was there, I actually had to sleep on the third floor all alone because I was on work release. I used to hear all kinds of voices, people walking up and down the hallway, and like old Victorian music. But the worst was when everyone was gone at night, and I would set on the front porch and smoke, and you could hear people walking around, speaking in different languages. If we told the staff they would tell us we were crazy and not to tell anyone else. I have been hooked on the paranormal ever since. That place changed my life in more ways than one.

My great great uncle escaped this place in the 60s and walked all the way back to North Carolina

I live in Winchester, and mother said my grandfather used to tell her stories about the "crazy house'' in Staunton. We all believe there's something unsettling there.

One thing to consider is eclipse plumage - when males end up molting and losing feathers, they often appear to be females and much drabber versions of themselves. Here in the US it occurs in the summer with mallards...but i'm not sure about pink-headed ducks. I sure hope they still exist.

Imma just point out that lots of old suburban houses have a perfectly circular area that stays lush and green in a drought. It's usually got a septic tank buried under it.
