Das ist der Pop, der mich geprägt hat!

Da es total uncool ist Kunst zu interpretieren mach ich das immer, um genervte Gesichter zu provozieren, damit beide Seiten zufrieden auseinander gehen können: Ich denke es gibt viele Arten Berlin zu erleben und für sich zu entdecken. Man kann Geschichtsbücher wälzen, doch in gefühlt rechtsfreiem Raum in Sackgassen zur Mauer in KRZ-BRG der 80er Jahre in besetzten Häusern zu leben, das kann man halt nicht erklären. Es gibt also viele Arten Berlin zu erleben und eine Sightseingtour ist es sicher nicht; deshalb die Hintergrundakkustik eines langweiligen Museums, der Klang von Absätzen in großen Räumen, während dem man keinen Zugang zu den Exponaten bekommt. Ich denke man kann es verstehen wenn Wolfgang am Ende lachen muss.

For anyone who may have randomly arrived here and is a bit confused, this is a prime example of a technique the band often used where they would play a pre-recorded song for an audience, perform to it, and then re-record the performance so that the noises/found sounds blend with those of the piece itself. As you can imagine, after a few concerts, the original song has turned into soup, as we see and hear here. :D Core bandmembers Wolfgang Müller (filling sort of a host/ringmaster role here), Käthe Kruse (drums), and Nikolaus Utermöhlen (accordion) are joined on this occasion by their frequent collaborator, the lovely Valerie Caris-Ruhnke as the damsel on display. (Also, unless I'm very much mistaken, Valerie's paramour Reinhard Wilhelmi can briefly be glimpsed treating us to a little beefcake around 3:30). RIP Nicky and Valerie

An and Wolfgang, Thank you so much for preserving the legacy of Die Tödliche Doris and making it accessible to the newer generations, as well as "oldies" like myself. There is a remarkable amount of footage available on UA-cam. I guess if I were going to construct a personal "wish-list" it would include "Tanz" with Valerie and Reinhard, any DTD-related clips of Gunter and Hermoine, and of course as much footage of David as possible. (So lecker). :D <3 Mark PS I know I'm a bit late but also, I'm very sorry about Dirk. It sounds like he was a huge help to you, and he was so young. Mein herzliches Beileid :(

For those who may not be aware, in this clip the band are performing for a Deaf audience. As stated, they are miming to a previously-recorded version of the song. DTD's immersion in Deaf culture came about via their dear friend, Gunter Trube [RIP]. PS I love the fact that Käthe and Nicky [RIP] are just blithely sitting there while Wolfgang emotes enough for all three of them :D

In diesem Jahr habe ich in Westberlin Führerschein bestanden. War tolle Zeit in Westberlin.

Delightful. It's like someone discovered a vestigial Bacchanalian sect in a remote forest, dragged them (kicking and screaming, no doubt) to The Big City. handed them some instruments, and said, "Have fun!". In particular, Dagmar was such a creative drummer. She was (obviously!) self-taught but her contributions complement the chaos so perfectly. RIP Dagmar and Nicky. PS As an aside - I'm not sure who it is that remarks, "Smashing!" at 0:31, but you can tell she's somebody :D It sounds a bit like the late US fashion designer/journalist Carrie Donovan, but... I don't recall her having been a German postpunk fan.... Is it maybe Valerie Caris-Ruhnke [RIP]? I know she and Wolfgang were very chummy, so that was my other theory.

Herr Mueller , ich möchte Ihrem aufschlussreichen , dem Schicksal unserer Stadt spürbar verbundenem Beitrag noch ein eventuell interessantes Detail hinzufügen - Der Siegessäule wurde im Zuge der Umsetzung vom Vorgarten Des Reichstags zum Grossen Stern Ein zusätzliches Kanonenstockwerk gegönnt-der Wirkung halber. Das geschah in den 30ern des letzten Jahrhunderts....ob die Kanonen dafür auch 70/71 oder nachgegossen wurden recherchiere ich noch.in diesem Sinne Prosit und weiter so!

Auch ich kann mich noch an das gute alte West-Berlin erinnern, denn schließlich war ich seit 1985 regelmäßig dort, und fand damals das Besondere an West-Berlin auch total beeindruckend.
