Thanks - that fixed it - took apart the plastic covering over the steering column and got in there and turned the worm gear with an adjustable wrench and VOILA! it worked!! Guess it was dirty and needed to be broken loose. Thanks!
You are a demi-god! Years of living with it in the stuck up position finally fixed! Needs a few good strong hits and it went "pop" when you hit the down button. Lubed the *hit out it. Kudos....
Thanks so much! Purchased an E66 yesterday and steering wheel was stuck at top and fixed it this afternoon with your help. Mine was really stuck and I gave up but my mate persevered and finally got it moving. Thanks so much. PS - if you remove panel from top between wheel shroud and instruments and stick your head in between steering wheel and windscreen by leaning in from outside you can get a great view of what is going on. Bit claustrophic but helps a lot and you can get at it from below by only removing the bottom bit of steering column shroud.
Thank you so much for the video I was able to fix mine, i didnt have to push the plastic, i only had to rotate the washer using a flat screwdriver and a metal hammer using the indent of the washer.
Man I love UA-cam! Got a 13 yr old 750Li for $5k with only 54k miles!!! Going to be worth 7k+ by the time i fix all the lil 10-$20 problems. There's a video for everything! Steering wheel, power thigh supports, hood props, exhaust smoke (pcv valves), passenger logic 7 sub, diy oil change & 15k mile dash/system reset. Only thing that costs more than $20 & isn't quick & easy, is the salve cover gaskets. Leaking about 2 drops of oil a week (big whoop)
Don't do anything with the plastic. It will break and you don't want that. Do it from underneath if possible. Wedge a screwdriver against the indent on the (metal) washer. Hit the screwdriver with a good hammer. If you can rotate the washer, you will release the mechanism and you'll have your job done! Just don't mess with the plastic parts and please be clinical.
So if I hear my motor trying to work but no movement , it's more than likely this washer situation right? right now my steering wheel is stuck all the way up.. I am hoping I have room.
@@nogoogle8498 Thanks bud , I’ll give it a shot. With my steering wheel all the way up , I am hoping that cover will come out and give me access to that area.
@@nogoogle8498 Okay for sure , I just took a look at it and the top portion is way to tight to get any access. I will give it a shot from the bottom.. Have you seen if there is access to that bolt/washer from the bottom?
@@reza_dc2 Hello. Just wondering if you was able to fix your steering wheel problem and if it will work to remove just bottom of the panel to get an access to underneath .Thank you!
I have a BMW 730d SE 2005 and had the same problem where the worm was fused to the washer by the brittle grease which enables the "up and down" motion. I looked at all the videos on how to fix by using a screwdriver and hammer, then had a brainwave. I set my soldering iron against the washer for several minutes which heated up the grease and "Heh presto" it worked first time. Hope this helps!
Well I had this problem and the washer was extremely stuck. I first sprayed it with WD40 and left it for awhile and then took it to the screwdriver and hammer and banged on the side tab on the washer really hard (not directly at the front of the washer but rather the side) until it started turning and broke loose. And now it works as good as ever woohoo 😀
worked great on 2002 745li BMW...Thanks a bunch I did everything you said and it worked like a charm... I took a screw driver and a hammer and tapped that washer and it started working like a charm.... put some oil on it and so far it is working great thanks again for the video
thanks I have 2 2002 745li's with the same problem and this fixed both of them instantly... man thanks a million... I ask the stealership her what would it cost and they told me $149 just to tell me what the problem was... and the repair would be upwards of $1600 to repair... you really saved me because I had just gave up on getting it fixed... thanks again
Watch the video last nite made a comment.... now today it worked I put in some work had to hit the flat head with a rubber hammer to free up the plastic
Nice video. I got to that mechanism but I can’t push that plastic back. I used a flat head but it is super stuck. Should I hit the flat head with a hammer? Any tips? Thanks
I sprayed a little Marvel Mystery Lubricant around that mechanism and kept checking the tilt function, two days later working like a charm. Thanks for the info.
Alfredo Azure G there is one Phillips screw underneath for the bottom one and there is two Phillips screws at the top for the top panel and after you take those two screws out they just pop out the whole panel pops off
Thanks for doing the video on this. Very helpful. Much appreciated. Cheers mate. T
Wery helped

Mine is also stuck. How do I remove the top and bottom plastics.
There's no ways I could push that plastic back. Mine is stuck solid. Any other suggestions.

What does the button S M D stand for? Is that the sport mode? If it is, whats the M and D stand for? Thanks
It stands for Manual Sport and Drive
It worked like a charm. I just needed to tap the washer with a screwdriver and a hammer. Then I sprayed a little lub on it. Thanks for the tips!
