How to Develop Your Unique Writing Voice
Voice is one of the elements that make your writing unique. It's what makes you stand out and what readers return for when they want to read more of what you’ve written. In this video, I talk about the difference between voice and style, provide examples, and share tips on how to find your own voice.

Amazing video ! Anymore recommendations of minimalist and direct contemporary writers ? Such as Brett Easton Ellis for example ?

One of my favorite books of all time
Same here!
This is a great video. You are doing great. Good job in depth and perpective, in color scheme, in lighting, and in editing. You did a great job at feeling natural and your-self in communication. Since listening to you is the point I would slightly turn down the background music or turn up your voice. Tip: Always remember its a visual media so use always involve visual language to communicate.
Thank you so much for the tip. Will definitely try next time 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Beautiful story! Very inspiring Mohamed!
Thank you 😊
It’s not boring, it’s just hard to keep the focus, to not get distracted, and I’m a novelist. Any tips? Today I’ve listened to a audiobook of the Secret History by Donna Tartt for 45 minutes straight while hiking. So much easier than reading.
It’s true that listening is easier than reading, because you can listen while liking, doing laundry, or driving. I do feel like when I read I comprehend more, but that doesn’t take away from the power of listening. I think our focus on reading has become harder because of our phones. I could be wrong, but no book can compete with half an out of scrolling through memes, sport highlights, and cat videos. Sometime, when I’m stuck writing, or get to a less interesting part of a book, I automatically reach for my phone. It’s interactive at this point. Nevertheless, it’s a habit or a muscle. We can train ourself to read. We just need to have patience, and most importantly read books we enjoy.
I’m gonna read it
First video I watch from you. I thought you had more subs, well, a new sub here! Can you name the books on the thumbnail? thanks

@@mohamedsmorshed thanks for your reply! I think I would like to learn more about the process of writing poetry. Greetings!
Excellent, and I so understand. I've researched my family history for decades and have realized that I need to write about it since I am the only one who understands it like I do and I do think it is interesting!
Yes! YOU NEED TO!
@@mohamedsmorshed Yes!
I don’t really understand the whole “enjoy the process” argument. I’ve been hearing some form of that for decades, but it feels so empty and self-evident. How do you enjoy getting a root canal? Easy, just enjoy the process of getting a root canal. Like, yes, if I enjoy a thing in-and-of itself, then I would enjoy the thing.
For me it’s not a mental switch that I turn on and suddenly I enjoy the process (of writing, in my case). But it has to do with how I approach ‘the thing.’ If I sit down to write for the sake of writing the story, I tend to enjoy what I write down, how the characters come to life, and the word play I use to shape the world I’m building. But if I sit down to write because I feel like I have to, otherwise why would I call myself a writer, then it starts to feel like a chore. Mind you, the thing gets done in both cases. But I enjoy one over the other.
@@mohamedsmorshed Sounds nice.
Do you ever just write to see what comes out? I'm old, but have always loved typing. I can start just by doing the old typing exercises like, "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country." ... and then keep typing to see what you say about it. Just letting yourself write without judging yourself is freeing.
Absolutely! Writing is literally the act of discovery. I can’t think of stories in full form and then start writing them. I sit, type, and the images start flowing. Sometimes it takes a few minutes before my engine starts turning. But if I’m patient enough, the story will come around.
My goal is to have my novel found in a second hand shop, with yellowing pages and be their favorite book from a no name author.
"That's a very interesting goal; I love it. I wonder why you wouldn't put your name as the author?"
@@mohamedsmorshed by that I mean not popular like Neil, Stephen or JK. I’m just a guy in a galaxy of superstars.
@@philipdouglas842 Oh I see! Well you never know who you’ll become 😊. Keep writing!

Glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for subscribing 😊
God bless you and your efforts brother Mohamed ... I'm a beginer writer, and one of my biggest concerns regarding writing is alienation by geography, what I mean by that is that for my case for instance, i'm from Algeria and English is my second language even though I often find my self more comfortable with it than my mother tongue, and most successful English writers I know or heard of are westerners or lived in the west , and i'm quite fearful of the fact that many of my targeted audiance will find it hard to accept me just because of the fact of the matter ... am I rightfully worried or i'm being overly paranoid ? Thank you again for your efforts.
that was a great help man
Glad you found it helpful 😃
This video should have more views, that point about not having a feedback is quite true
Thank you! We just have to train ourselves to be rewarded by the process or get feedback from sharing our work.
I could not agree more with the fact that we live in a fast paced world that gives us short term but quick rewards. The rewards don't make us happy in the long term though - they just keep us in the same state of addiction to media. Also, as someone who knows nothing about Yemen, I would love to read about the Yemeni experience in america. Keep up the quality videos
Thank you so much for the comment. Will share more about Yemen in future videos- and writing 🙂

"Elements of Style" is a good book. I would also recommend reading a lot and reading widely. The more you read, the more you train your brain on how authors tell stories, structure books, and craft sentences. Good luck! If you watch the video, let me know what you think of it.
