“It’s the Wizard who should be afraid… of me.” - that pause is so important and the movie botched it. Ephalba has been passive up to this point, but in the scene before she realizes that SHE had true power all along. She doesn’t need them, they need her. Ephalba is far more dangerous to them, and she knows it now. “… of me!” Sucks the air out of the room.
G O D. Julia and Eden fucking ATE NGD. I love DG, but this song has always been it for me. And Julia and Eden, I feel, were the elphabas from the early days who really GOT elphabas breakdown and transformation more than anyone else. MASTERFUL.
I just listened to part of the new Wicked movie soundtrack, and then came back to this video afterward. Even though Cynthia and Ariana are both very well-trained, talented singers, their voices simply don't carry the magic and passion conveyed by Idina and Kristen. I don't get goose bumps hearing the movie soundtrack at all, but I still get them every single time I hear Idina and Kristen. So I'm not going to be in a hurry to see the film.
Theatre and movies are really different vibes. In films, they take their time to build characters and add depth, while in theatre, everything moves way faster. Even in serious scenes, they’ll often throw in some comedy to keep things flowing. On the flip side, the movie version amp up the seriousness and fit that new singing style well. Of course, you can't beat the original cast, as they totally shaped the characters and songs around those amazing actresses. But seriously, you should check out the movie in theaters while it’s still showing. It’s a great adaptation and totally better on the big screen. It’s not the kind of movie that hits the same when you’re just chilling at home!
Unfortunately there was bad vocal editing by some songs in the movie. Most of it wasn't needed for trained singers like Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo. That being said, they were very good in the Wicked movie. I watched it twice already. Most people who were fans of the theatrical production loved it as well. The only one problem I really had is that it was a bit longer than it needed to be. Defying Gravity in the movie was definitely one of those issues.
This video disappeared a long time ago and I was HEARTBROKEN not to be able to find a dupe - this is by far the BEST No Good Deed to ever be performed. So stoked that it’s back!!!
Yes! there was also a full cast recording in decent quality once and I watched it on repeat. Eden is unmatched in her performance here I wish I had seen her perform this live.
My first time seeing wicked was with Eden. I’ve seen it 5 times with 5 different actresses over 20 years and Eden is imo the greatest. I saw this very specific clip years ago and have been looking for it ever since!
She will. Aside from her being the best vocalist (maybe alive) she’s such a good actor I can’t even wait for the emotions she’ll bring to this song. I need next year to come NOW!!!!
2:30 obviously the “FIYERO!” is iconic, as is her switching up the last note, but this GAVE ME CHILLS! “Maybe that’s the reason why…” it sounded so DARK! I loved that specifically
@ I’d love it more if they didn’t split it into two parts. The show is about two hours. The movie could have done the whole story in two and half to three hours.
In addition to her incredible talent, I think what makes Idina Menzel so amazing is her passion for the role, and character, it just truly shines. I’ve seen Wicked a few times and am for sure no theater expert by any means, but no one does/did it like her.
The innocence and sweetness that Idina Menzel brings to Elphaba will always be my favorite, but if Elphaba were ever to be feared.. it’s when she’s played by Eden Espinosa, especially during this song. The fierceness! Just WOW.
Idina and Kristin were the first two I ever heard for Wicked, and to this day they are still my all time favorites. The chemistry, harmonies and timing of their songs were amazing and I feel all the others rush through it, especially on this song. But what they all forget is this song is not a race, it's a marathon. The slow pace, gradually increasing is what really sets the tone for this scene and song and gives me goosebumps every single time <3
It’s been nearly a week since the Super Bowl trailer for the movie! Wicked made me the musical theatre geek I am today! With the broomstick and wand past to Cynthia & Ariana, years of eagerly waiting for this beloved story to come to the big screen is on the line. And Defying Gravity has got to leave us wanting more.
I love Wizard and I soooo much
Again, wish these two had been recorded and released in movie theaters as a Fathom event.
3:01 The way her cry resonates and echos gives me chills.

The best, forever🤩
Will always love this!
Amazing!!! My favorite performance. The timing, acting, singing, and the passion are all so magnificent and are so invigorating ❤ What an inspiration!
i watched the movie recently... omG, exactly the same scenes, in a good way

They’re terrible. Cynthia and Ariana are wayyyyy better.
Nice rage bait but nahh, They are better for me.

lucky omg
Eden and Shoshana give me CHILLS as Elphaba. They are hands down the best in my eyes.
Her way of singing the chorus is still my favorite. "I think I'll tryyyyy(straight) defyyyyy(vibrato)ing gravity."
wow
I've seen this video like a million times and it always moves me. Amazing.
2 Pros! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🐐
love the camerawork and sound quality is superb.
The BEST performance of "No good deed" ever
it's time for the girlies to commune in this comment section and manifest these riffs in part two 🔮✨
The streets are saying Cynthia did them!!
@@mannyjohnson4539if anyone can do it justice like Eden did, it's Cynthia. Though my soul may not be able to handle it.😭😭
It’s so sad that she was seen as the villain in the wizard of oz 😢
She is the villain of the movie. And Wicked came along in the 90’s and gave her a tragic backstory to humanize her
I know lol but imagine if this was her actual backstory in the wizard of oz.
I felt bad for her as well after watching her backstory. They made her out to be the villain.
I've been coming back to this performance for over 10 years. Actually amazing.
No one will top Idina’s acting in this scene. Ever.
Also, just saying. If Cynthia Erivo delivers a version like THIS??????? Game over.
She will. Aside from her being the best vocalist (maybe alive) she’s such a good actor I can’t even wait for the emotions she’ll bring to this song. I need next year to come NOW!!!!
you should see her "I'm here" from the color purple Broadway show. her voice is so powerful it's crazy
Seriously i know I'm commenting again but that last phrase is just out if this world.
THIS VIDEO IS BACK ON UA-cam 😭😭😭😭😭😭
My favorite cast; Idina + Kristin!
2:30 obviously the “FIYERO!” is iconic, as is her switching up the last note, but this GAVE ME CHILLS! “Maybe that’s the reason why…” it sounded so DARK! I loved that specifically
this is my favorite clip watching her sing the wizard and i
So amazing. I saw the show a few years ago. It was still incredible.
Sorry, Universal, you can’t top this. Idina and Kristen are a force of nature.
I’m not afraid of seeing Cynthia & Ariana try!
at least they made a cameo, hey?
No one will ever top the OG, even Cynthia & Ariana would agree. But they’re really really great on their own aren’t they?? I loved the movie!
@ I’d love it more if they didn’t split it into two parts. The show is about two hours. The movie could have done the whole story in two and half to three hours.
Universal actually owns the stage production. Just sayin 😉
part of what sells this so much on Idina's part is that you hear every gasp for air. Every one.
Ive always loved that!
~it's the asthma~
"Pro-Shot"
For 2004, yeah
I’ve listened to this song 4 times in a row and I’m never gunna be sick of it. It’s getting me pumped for work
imagine if they released the whole show like this
They sing like it’s just the two of them and no one else in the world exists. Theater perfection.
That’s how brilliant theatre happens, so much immersed in the story and characters that you don’t realize there’s an actual audience.
best defying gravity riff ever, no one can do it as well as the original
1:17 is my fav
that is the greatest no good dead ever done for the stage, eden is legend
This is thee version ✨

When Frozen debuted in 2013, I wore one of my Wicked shirts to the movie in Idina’s honor.
The best ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The innocence and sweetness that Idina Menzel brings to Elphaba will always be my favorite, but if Elphaba were ever to be feared.. it’s when she’s played by Eden Espinosa, especially during this song. The fierceness! Just WOW.
This performance is the very essence of Elphaba.
Eden is unmatched! This performance rocks me to my core! Simply otherworldly!
Eden is so fierce I love her so much and I've only known of her a day
I remember seeing her at my 8th grade field trip in Chicago ❤ my 1st Broadway show !!!
So Anna and Elsa reincarnated into Elphaba and Glinda in the another world...

can't imagine being idina menzel. she has to perform this incredibly difficult song every night
Idina and Kristin were the first two I ever heard for Wicked, and to this day they are still my all time favorites. the reason why they were casted as Anna and Elsa I supposed
The chemistry is unreal. We are lucky to be witness. Even through a screen. Gosh I hope the film does the OG’s justice.
@@emmanueljr.tanduyan8909 krisitn chenowyth is not anna looool that's kristen bell. Different actress.
