Evolve GTX new battery upgrade
A friend of mine had brought a second hand board and it had terrible battery sag.he could not buy new batterys in New Zealand for them so he asked me to build him one.
He was super happy with the result as his board has no sag at all any more and hes getting 40ks with still quarter battery left.

Wow technical experience to watch, well done as it works great
@5:25 3*4.5ah=12.4? Someone stole 1.1ah? Lol. I will need to make a stronger battery for my VESC ebike. I can feel a noticeable increase in acceleration with the vesc set at 25a compared to the original controller 16a limit, but my original 10a4p18650 10ah pack can’t handle much more. My pack goes inside a 60 diameter tube, and was 7 cells long. So in 2170 cells I think the simplest thing is using similar methods to what you did, make 2x 6s2p accordions then connect the forward ends in series to get 12s2p P45B. That might leave enough room for a slim bms with canbus. I wonder how much your Evolve BMS can handle. Something like that in 12s might be enough. I just need 40a continuous/80a peak 60seconds. Otherwise I can use a charge Only BMS which talks to the vesc and tells is to stop using so much current instead of slamming the discharge port shut,
whoops my bad on that ah calculation..dont know wot i was thinking coming up with that number....lol
i think that boards esc is 79amps and im gussing that devided by 2..cant remeber exaztly as i did look it up but cant remeber for sure
@ its hard to find any specs on that board. I see many end up gutting it and going vesc.
I'd end up in the hospital if I had one of them
yup same here as my right leg already has alot of muscle missing and i cant move quickly so id end up in the bed next to you....lol
Only my two favorite hobbies! Lol
Cool, I haven't taken any time till now to see your shorts.... that sounds wrong. I see your shorts now... That didn't sound any better either.
Amazing 🤩
Thanks. i have a youtube short up date on it if you want to see more of it
Very good to do that with all your own design into the parts etc I reakon is really good value, well done Aaron
Thank you muchley much..😄
Nice work bro! If it's like the last 1 can't wait to give it a go/buy/take 👌
cheers dude
What kimd of heat shrimk is that?
Just normal large size heat shrink..do you want the link so you can have a look?

Cletus and squirrel
yupp gota love those two.
Bike trailer looks great. The only problem is that you're making it too large. You need to be only 30 inches wide according to the law on bike trails.
just curious, What country are you in?..as i rung the AA which is in new zealand and they said there were no limits to how big it is BUT as long as im not being a nuisance on the roads. i still have a video i must edit but if you want to see where the camper is at check my youtube shorts. plus thanks for the comment.
Be careful with transmission interference good luck
Yes i know wot your meaning there as i used to program a heap of waypoints into my Mavic 2 zoom drone and get it to speed up/slow down and change altitude and i would chase it with my fpv drone with the air unit in it. I had to put the Mavic control about ten meters away otherwise i couldn't take off as the Mavic was interfering with my control signal on my fpv drone so bad that i couldn't even get off the ground.
Lol I tried flying my DJI fpv drone and put up my mini3pro to film the action I was unsuccessful but was able to land both quads 👍💯🔥
Ok thats good you were able to land them.
Nice man
Thank you. I cant wait to fly it in the next few days.
Love this 👌🏼 you made me laugh so much
Glad you I injoyed it.
You needed two tables of the same height to put them on... drone big enough for a mannequin head!! 😂try that!!
Yes that would work...I'm going to see if it will track one of my x-class drones better next time.
give me that drone i need that
Well mabe it will fly to you on one battery pack..if so its yours....
@@Bitathisandthat donate that drone to me i need that
It's not a tello.
Yes I know...I don't know why I kept calling it that.i blame dji for that.
Nice Tello
Hmm do you know a good surgeon so i can look into my brain to see wot was shorting out that day???....Please
@@Bitathisandthat I think it did not short out, it just. missed tello 😁
GREAT TEST I WILL TRY❤❤❤
nice one..id like to see that also if your going to film it.
An enjoyable experience
Thank you.
That looks like fun, I've had a couple cheap drone that couldn't do that, they barley flew at all. I got like a million flight ours on the sims it feels like, I need to get one like this.
Cheers..yes it is alot fun but also cost the earth when i mess up and crash it which has happend alot..You can only buy the frame and its not a octo as i made it into a octo and chose all the electrics for it. thanks for the coment.
I hear there totally fine and work well but something about burning diesel stops me from getting one. been thinking about it for years that it would be nice sept the need to handle a store diesel.
I think I need to pick up welding, wanted to my entire life never tried it yet. I was that 6 yo kid that new I would live in a pile of junk and call it my toys but hard to believe I never picked up a welder yet.
this isent the trailer i was meaning..this is my ebike camper im building which is taking forever as i dont have much money as i dont work because of bad injurys..and to be honest this welding you see in the video is the 1st mig welding id ever done. I incourge you to try it as it opens up a whole new world of progects you can make. the trailer im building looks like its just a little bigger than your one and the trailer will have a battery, usb ports etc..so my range will be incresed since the bike has a battery as well. only one 100watt panel will be in the sun and when i get to my camping spot i will pull the secons solar panel out to charge quicker. cheers for the comments tho mate...i watch all of your videos and put a like on them for you.
What is it for?
Ebike camper with slide outs.
Wow you have done so much more, it's looking amazing, like forward to seeing it finished
Cheers Tarns. yes it is well ova half finished now but ive come upto the tricky parts of trying to get the top slide woring and the two wheel drive working once they are built..
It will be interesting to see the hub motor type (freewheeling or not) and controller choice (regen or not), and how you integrate it into the bike throttle and surge brakes so that the mechanical brakes don’t kick in until regen is doing all it can and still not enough. Its easy to see how these projects can get expensive.
I haven't chosen the motors as yet but ive got it down to three to choose from..and yes still have a few things to figure out all right. Yeah the camper started as a cheap wee thing to pull behind the bike but has now blown up into a ..i need this...um i need that....um better put one of those on etc etc...lol
Im also still considering a 2000wat electric three speed diff..
dont know if you can add links in here www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001895383945.html is one of my choices
@@Bitathisandthathyperlinks don’t work in shorts but it did in notifications. Those motors will give a regen option if your controllers support it. I have one generic non-programmable controller with regen. Its pretty mild but does work. Going to programmable controllers will ramp up the price a bit but give you tuning ability to match it to your ebike’s controller when needed. Generic controllers won’t pair with your ebike on the same throttle most likely because the low-mid-high rpm won’t sync. So either the trailer motors will coast or they will push the bike and the bike motor runs unloaded. Perhaps a cycle analyst can correct for that since it will override the throttle signal and modify it to make the motor do what you want, but that might not be cheap either. Lol
@@imho7250 yeah i understand wot your saying and have thought alot about it..even if i end up having two throttles and one servo running both of them and control that servo with a thumb throttle on my handle bar...yes im getting a lil ova my head but i love a challange. i was thinking of running the kits mostley off the pedal assist sensor where its very easy to have two sensors running on the same magnit wheel,, and would really only be using throttle for take off and moving,,and im gona need reverse but thats not 100% important...might even hit you up for ideas when i get closer to the wireing and chosing of the kits..i do have alota places book marked that i will be talking to when picking the kits you can get scooter kits that are duel drive(two controllers) and have regen and the go right upto 4000watt kits where i only want around 2000watts.
But does your octocopter hover? Lol
Ummm yes sorta...lol
Nice build so far dude.
Thanks you.
Wow thats pretty cool...when is it going to be done??
Cheers. hopefully it will be done at the start of summer...just gota save my pennies to get the electric hubs, solar panels, And then build a huge battery for it.
Will be good to see it on the road and you enjoying it
@@stellajameson7805 Sure will. I can wait
0:30. That is asking for trouble. As surely as bike seats using this clapping method rotates and gradually sinks, your break handles support bar will gradually pivot away the braking handles out of the range of the mechanism. It can happen suddenly with change of temperature too...
yeah i see your concern, the powerd hubs i now have for the camper have regen so these brakes wont really have to work to hard, that pivot is really tough to move once clamped and you can see that it also wont ova brake as it has the bar to stop. it definitely needs refining and any ideas you have will be greatly appreciated
@@Bitathisandthat I would install a turnbuckle from that round pipe to the square frame behind it to act as an adjustable support.
Excellent work...do you plan on putting motors on those camper tires also?
Yes I have two 800watt motors now for it and they will run from the campers batterys.the camper still isn't finished as yet but has walls lino shelf etc..I must edit part teo the video as one electric slide is working great but the other slide hasn't been started. Thank you for the great comment.
@@Bitathisandthat Oh nice and what are the motor specs on your bike ? are you running the camper's hub motors in unison with the bike motors or do you use them separately sir?
@@Bitathisandthat also don't forget the solar panels haha
@@tayh3168 for the camper I'll just be running my 1000watt kit on the bike, But I run a 1500kit atm with a 60amp controller so I'm putting just over 3000watss into the hub, nothing to fast of flash but it gets me where I want to go..
@@tayh3168 yeah I got 300watts of solar to go on the roof as bike and camper will be charged that way mostly, But have a back up gene built into the camper for when I get no sun for a few days and need to move as I'm gone take it on the road for a month at a time. Alota people think I'm crazy but it's just something I wana do as have been riding electric bikes for 18years now, I prefer them to the car or the motorbike...hehehe
crazy fpv freestyle spot😂
Hi ! Nice job ! I will do the same with an original one (bricked by dji)... could you share your betaflight setting file please ? Thanks in advance and nice day
Hi there. Im very sorry to say i pulled taht drones apart for another progect around 9months ago. Thank you for the comments.
Was a fantastic ride
Indeed it was.
Awesome job
Cheers...i do have the rest of the build in photos but i thought this was enough as it dragged on long enough..
@@Bitathisandthat should of kept going was quite cool watching the fast video 🙂
I believe you, I bet that did take a long time. Are they all the same cell just different colours?
Yes it definitely took a long time alright and wot i put up was only some of the photos as i have pics of all the nickel going on as well. And yes they are all the same, Just to be sure i did a capacity check and they passed...lol
@@Bitathisandthat Looks very cool. If you haven't seen it already take a look at Chris Rosser's new video about making his own pack. He goes against a lot of the established best practice on building packs. He is soldering on copper braid rather than using nickel strip. I still think he spends way too long with the iron on the cell but in the comments a lot of people are agreeing with him about the high resistance of the nickel under heavy load from multirotors. I know ebikes are different to multirotors but I found the video informative anyway.
Wow what an achievement
indeed it is
I see the problem, someone left that in the dryer too kong. Lol. At first I thought it was a mini moto you can ride. Lol I need one of those ESC with gyro for my next ebike so I can wheelie like a pro as long as nobody using a microwave oven nearby. But seriously I had considered using a gyro that would reduce throttle when the front wheel comes off the ground, if I ever get an ebike that has power for that.
Thats actually a ghood idea with the gyro wheelie thing.. and yes it was in the dryer just 30secs two long....AGAIN...lol does your 2000watt not lift the front wheel..my 1000 watt does with the shunt mod done...well did untill i fried it a couple of weeks ago.
@@Bitathisandthat , my motor has a pretty high kv, I can do 70 kph without field weakening with 60v, so even if I sent 180a to it, there’s no tendency to wheelie. Just a smooth surge in thrust. My next build I will probably get a kv closer to 50kph@60v and use field weakening to go faster, that should give me better acceleration. And part of it might be the Fardriver ramp up, even with most agressive settings, will not ramp up to 100% in 1 second.
@@imho7250 oh ok. how is the bike going??..still nice and reliable?
@@Bitathisandthat, my battery had some issues due to spot welding, mainly due to my carelessness and getting in a rush. I was trying to follow the normal spot welding where you push hard with the probes to seat the nickel against the cell, then ease off pressure so it makes a good weld. Unfortunately I didn’t have the cell holder seated properly so the 1mm thick copper buss held the nickel about 0.5mm above the cell. So some welds I pressed hard to seat the nickel but when I relaxed pressure to allow for good weld, it lifted off and burned a hole in the negative side of the battery, and then started hissing when the electrolyte started bubbling out. I did this on several cells but thought I would see what happens. I should have sealed it with epoxy and then maybe it would have held the electrolyte in. Over time as the electrolyte dried up in some cells, I noticed some bricks self-discharging, since the electrolyte was no longer barring electron flow inside the cell. With these holders you can’t make a mistake because it’s not a simple snip and tuck cell replacement. So my lessons learned are: 1: have a good, sturdy, flat workbench so the cell holder can get seated properly. 2: When ordering these busses, ask them to add a 2s2p bus so you can practice with some old cells and see how the cell holder, copper bus, nickel and cell all fit up. 3. When in doubt, press too hard and accept a “dud” weld rather than too light if the nickel is trying to spring away from the negative side. Positive side not really an issue. 4. Take breaks and resist the urge to let Captain “Get ‘er done” override Commander Quality Assurance. Lol 5. Use good lighting and make sure you can see the nickel is touching the cell under both probes. A small gap will burn a hole, espresso in the slotted nickel where the shortest path is through the cell and the tiny gap. While I don’t blame the 1mm thick copper, if I used 0.3mm thick it still would be twice as much as I needed and it would have allowed more yielding to compensate for my careless seating of the cell holder. The 1mm is really only needed for poor cell arrangement like what is found in all triangle batteries, or if you have a specific holder arrangement but can’t arrange the cells optimally. For example, my cell holder that fits my battery box is 16x5, and that also works nicely for 16s5p. But if I needed 72v, I could have done 20s4p, but it would be using 2x4 busses down one side and then 1x8 busses up the other side. For these 1x8 “snake busses” I would definitely use 1mm because its 4x45a (180a) crossing the junction, and that would give basically 20mmx1mm=20mm^2 which is adequate. But i will probably build a cheaper battery or put the old battery (48v16ah 25a) battery back in. I want a new project but have to find what im looking for. If i lived in china i could make one pass through a ebike factory and load up my cart with the exact frame, forks, brakes, motor, and then go add a controller and battery. Lol
I need to do that to my front brake. My rear disk is ok because regen does enough back there. And I’m not sure i can throw the new disk past my swingarm. But I have the Houdini front forks. Lol
Ok Nice one, these are more for looks atm untill i get some decent Hydraulic brakes as just have cable ova hydraulic on frant and only cable on back..not much room for decent brakes on the back though as motor is so wide.
@@Bitathisandthat , the hybrid brakes seem like a waste of money. You get self adjusting but they still feel like cable brakes. Lol. I have pure cable brakes front and rear. I might upgrade to hydraulic if i can find a good deal on ebike brake complete kit
@@imho7250 just be careful which rear brake ya chose as the good four piston rear brake I have as they won't fit in between the motor and disc which sucks as it's a dam good brake.
@@Bitathisandthat , yes, that’s one reason I don’t want to mess with the rear brake because my power cable comes out on that side and has about 1mm clearance from the 6 rotor screws. So I can’t even space the disk away from the housing. With regen my front brake is all i use.sometimes just the sensor, but also the pads if I need emergency braking.
@@imho7250 Yeah true the regen would be good.
That was quick work lol
sure was indeed...hehehe
Look like it will do nicely. The Timelapse almost made me miss the 3 cell nickel strip beefing up of the negative collector. Positive collector looks fully beefed up. On my 5p pack I ran the battery leads along the collector to beef them up because they were ordered side tapped when it had a 15a BMS feeding a 13a controller, but when I changed to 80a/200a ANT and AWG12 wire, the single nickel strip seemed too weak for the abuse it was about to receive from my Fardriver 72360 set for 60a. Lol. Soon ill be making the 16s5p P42A pack with some 1mm thick copper super busses suitable for engraving and lowering down to the Titanic if the battery ever catches on fire. Lol. But the battery cables will only be AWG10 going to an XT60, then going to a T-plug, then AWG12 to the controller. The T-plug is the weakest link but hopefully it will handle 10 second bursts of 180a. Lol
Yes it does work good for the bike its on, The guy who i sold it to is soooo happy with it as its his 1st ebike. i cant wait to edit the 45ah 48volt battery as im doing a stop motion build and wot ive done so far looks really good. Thanks for the comment on the video as well. I watch all of your videos and have learnt a few things which is great. hope your going to video the 16s 5p pack as that would be a great video to watch. Have you been riding ebikes for very long??, I built my 1st ebike around 15years ago. Such a great way to travel.
@@Bitathisandthat , that stop motion sounds like a lot of work. Luckily im so old and slow my videos are already stop motion. Lol I will video what I can on the 16s5p, I’m still re-assembling the 20s6p 32700 and trying to video that, and then i need to show how to assist balance the first time with my hobby charger, then i need to do full discharge test to show how closely the bricks are matched. My first ebike was bought for my girlfriend 8 years ago but i was afraid to do anything besides put a bigger headlight on it. Lol. We traded up to a better bike 3 years ago and thats when i really started learning. Changed the controller, the display, and built the 32700 battery 18 months ago. I used the ANT 24s BMS but the temperature sensor needed to be soldered so I didn’t install it. During the refurbish I will install it because it would have probably saved the 11 cells that had CID tripped.
Wow what a build, and it is powering the bike along so well
Cheers.
