Welcome to Nivla's Nightcap Notes. I'm quite a fan of whisky and other beverages, so I am going to share some of my thoughts with you in these videos. Thanks for watching!
No. 137 - Sazerac Rye
The best whiskey I tasted in my trip to the USA. Worthy of buying another, and a video review.

Thank you for this comparison. I like Dimple. I prefer the 12 year old dimple due to it's sweet strong caramel notes. However, at a low price range (in Australia) Dimple is a good drop. It's my go to whiskey when on special...I subbed as a short & sweet that gets to the point is great viewing.
If it is ever on special at the bottle shop, I grab it. Often I use it in Rusty Nails but it is quite drinkable neat. Thanks for your comment.
Love this whiskey, sliker than owel shit
That is a new term for me! Slicker than owl shit. Must remember that one. I have become a bit of a fan of Rye Whiskey. Best one I tasted in the states was Willett Rye. The Sazerac is pretty handy too.
good evening Nivela. Definitely rye whiskey generally has more edge and depth than most bourbons. Agreed.
Agreed indeed!
I lost my shirt and shoes in Arizona, but I blamed it on Tuborg Gold!
Only passed through Arizona on the train to Chicago. (Sang the Eagles song in the Winslow train station)
@@NivlasNightcapNotes Yes, Arizona is a fine place... but hang on to your marbles!
I enjoy Sazerac Rye, and it can still be found in Louisiana for $19.99 per bottle.
Wow that is cheap. I paid about $34 USD for my bottle I drank in the US. A bit more expensive here in Australia.
Yes, rye whiskey is a hit in my bar too. The ‘Baby Saz’ (45% ABV), while not so cheap in Oz, is a very welcome drop. And for that 95% rye mashbill experience I find it's hard to go past Bulleit 95 Rye Whiskey. I've lost count of how many repeat purchases I've made of that one. Cheers!
Love the Bulleit Rye but this Sazerac was even better! Thanks for the comment.
You got a real gem at a bargain price. Well done. Ardbeg is absolutely cracking stuff. Slainte 🥃
I now have 3 Ardbeg whiskies. Two I love: this one and the 10 year old, and one the jury is still out on. The Wee Beastie 5yo. It is far from my favourite whisky!
Good review mate, I did enjoy this bottle myself only if it did last only 2 weeks 😂
Mine will hopefully last a little longer than that. Mind you I am not short of good choices!
Thank you for the review. Glad you found it so cheap. I saw it on one of my latest travels, but I thought it was a bit too steep. I haven't looked at Ardbeg for some time now, and I'm supprised how many new expressions that have come out. Sadly at a high price. Good to see you again Nivla 🤗
Hi Pezrulez. Sorry it has taken me some time to reply. Life gets busy sometimes. There are a number of no age Ardbegs at fairly inflated prices. The 10yo is a superior whisky. Avoid the Wee beastie!
@NivlasNightcapNotes No worries my friend 🤗 I've had and have my share of hectic life currently. Work family and struggeling to get my dear demented parents a good last time of their life. Not easy at all. Regarding Ardbeg, I liked the older 10yo better than the new. Lately they've seem to have put out less quality. However I actually enjoy Wee Beastie. Some days I prefer that to the 10yo, because the 5yo is more lively, even though it's not as complex as the 10yo. Hope you're doing fine Nivla. So nice to hear from you 🤗
10yo is my pick. I find the Wee Beastie too much of a beast. But that is the great thing about whisky and taste. We all enjoy different things, but often enjoy the same!
Hi, Niva has a whisky drinker for a number of years Love your channel it's not snobby and pretentious. Im a big fan of peated whisky love all the ardbegs and always found them moreish .keep up the Good work 👍
Thank you for your encouragement. I love tasting the stuff and sharing my passion with others.
Sounds like a nice one, Nivla. I haven’t had an Ardbeg for quite some time. Thinking I should change that soon. I always enjoy your night cap notes. Cheers friend!
Thanks for those kind words. If you haven't got an Ardbeg on your shelf (preferably the 10yo) you are missing a great whisky!
This was on special and bought it. Loved the finish.
Nice review Nivla. I have a bottle of Gerston on the go now from Lost Distillery. I really like it. It strikes me as mostly refill bourbon cask...light peat. I like what they are doing. Would give a different expression from them a try if I get the chance.
Interesting! I didn't know much about the Lost Distillery until I bought this. I will be keeping my eyes open for other chances.
I like the dark glass of the botle. I can,t say that I have tried the blends from the Lost Distillery but I have 1 botle, the Stratheden version, in my collection . Cosy rewiev as always 😊
Thanks for the positive comment. I bought this off the shelf at duty free, untasted, and I found that it is pretty good.
@NivlasNightcapNotes Thank you for your cosy rewievs 😊. Maby it,s time to open my bottle from the lost Distillery. Exiting name for a botler, right?
Thank you for your encouraging comment.
Greetings from Sydney, I like your reviews and I've subscribed to your channel. I'm curious, between the Tomintoul 10 year old single malt and this one. Both are on special at my local bottle shop and in my price range. What would you say is better?
Thx for review Sir, enjoy the bottle!
Thank you Nivla. I've missed you. So nice to see you again. The Laddie 8 and The Classic Laddie have been on my list for quite some time, but I've had others in my mind before them. But I will try them some day. Thanks again. Hope you're doing really fine. Take care my friend. 🤗🥃
“Chocolate mousse” 💀
🍾 Ha! That was a wet and juicy cork squeak top... Laddy 8!
Love the sound of the cork popping!! I also don't mind what follows that!
Can’t go wrong with all the Bruichladdich.
Amen to that!!!
Nice duty-free purchase, Nivla. Fans of the regular Bruichladdich Laddie NAS should enjoy this. And it is a year or two older than the NAS. I really like these distillate-driven barley bombs. Cheers, mate.
Thank you for the positive comment. I have been to Bruichladdich and tasted there, but it was a long time ago. Still the whiskies from there that I have are really good.
My plan is to pick up a tasting pack of this and their four wine finished bottles when on our holyday next week. Need something for the hotel room. Looking forwart to try Tamnavulin, For my quota to bring home, the plan is to pick up some more exciting stuff. Great review as allways 🙂
I think you might have missed your vocation Nivla 😀
It is nice to make one now and again, but I would find it pretty tedious to have to keep making them for other people. This cocktail was VERY yummy!
i love the glen moray whiskys. i tried the sherry cask and i loved it, i bought it because i got the glen dronach 12 for christmas a couple of years ago and was looking for something similar but cheaper.
Glad you're back, Nivla! greetings from Miami. Hope you brought lots of bourbon and rye with you! Cheers!
As someone all but totally new to alcohol, i can say with authority that Courvossier VS smells like turpentine-based rocket fuel.
Welcome back mate.
It is good to be home. Unfortunately, I came back to find the Saints in good form, but Not in the finals. Cats look strong! Nice to be back with my whisky collection!
Just picked one up for 72.00 in Florida. 😊
Nice to see you again 😊
It is nice to be home.
I just picked up a bottle for 22 bucks it's honestly really good for the price.
Excellent review. One of my favourite whiskeys. Real character at an affordable price.
I think it's wonderful, and I found my 750ml bottle for an amazing price.
Seems i found a fellow connoisseur, ive been drinking an Australian brand of Brandy called Black Bottle, Grape distilled 2 years in oak its smooth, tasty with vanilla hints & smells amazing, why is it that i can drink 350mls of straight Brandy and feel absolutely fine, but if i drink 200mls of whiskey im head first in the toilet regretting my decisions? Is it because Brandy isnt as harsh on the body/liver as Brandy? Brandy really is the medicine people make it out to be, i dont drink often but when i do Brandy really hits the spot

I've only ever bought Glen Moray once. It's a nice enough dram, but it gives me an absolutely shocking headache the next morning... and that was after just one drink the night before.
Safe travels, and good luck with the whiskey haul. Save space for a Knob Creek 12yr, I say.
Fab review - polished a couple of bottles of 12 off and have a bottle of the S on the shelf waiting to be opened. One day I'll be brave enough to buy the 18 😍
Safe travels Nivla, enjoy!!
Have a nice trip. Ill look forward to join you with a nightcap when you return.
Have a great time with the family mate.
Enjoy your trip!
Enjoy your trip!
Safe travels Nivla and hope you have a great trip ahead
Nice to catch up with tour videos again, Nivla. I'm tasting Bunna Stiuireadair soon, here in Uruguay the 12 Is pretty expensive, but I was glad to hear that this expression is up to the task. Take care
How delicious is Bunna spirit and the sherry combination just quality stuff.
Lovely.
It is great to see you again Nivla and as always with a wonderful selection of malts. I am yet to try any of the Bunnas expressions but they are not cheap here in Oz and I am mostly persuaded towards the peatier options out there. I might have to sucumbe to pay for a nip at a fancy pub perhaps, with hopes it agrees with my not-too-seasoned pallet. Cheers mate and thank you again for your video.
Thanks a lot for the review! It really helped me make the right choice for Friday evening. :)
Russell' s Reserve 10, at 90 proof, represents the acme of bourbon at (approximately) the proof at which all classic scotch is enjoyed. It measures up quite well, don't it?
There is colour added, it is stated at the back of the bottle for the german market
