A collection of Australian bird and wildlife photography videos i have taken, plus some other content. Based in Brisbane, QLD, Australia. All videos are mine, mainly recorded on a Lumix G85 camera and Panasonic 100-400mm lens.
Black-faced Cuckooshrike eating caterpillars - Australian Birds
A Black-faced Cuckooshrike catching and eating 2 caterpillars in my backyard. Notice how it smacks the caterpillar around to remove its poop before eating. No post-processing stabilization used in this video.

I recorded this large Floury Baker Cicada right before recording a Sacred Kingfisher call (which can be heard in the background). 2:40 I had a butcher bird sit under an awning on my veranda when it was raining (staying dry), and start his/her routine. After a while, I heard him say "Bella Bella!" and realized he was mimicking me calling my small dog. Then he did Bella's yap yap sound, then started all over with all the different sounds he'd heard in his territory, including the guy up the hill's wood cutting jigsaw or similar. It was as though he were vocally recalling his territory; every sound in it, and reminding himself of it. I wish I'd had any kind of recording equipment at the time, because apart from some rain, there were no big background sounds to drown him out. Because of this, I realized just how much birds spend listening and observing their environment, and in the butcher bird's case, *he had his region all mapped out vocally (from auditory cues), and knew every important regular inhabitant.*

This lens really shines with sufficient light. At least, in your hands! I was also surprised by the quality of the audio. The background noise was a bit of a problem , but the camera did an excellent job of picking up the bird song. Congrats!
Thank you for this. My main Takeaway is that this lens is sharp enough, but requires adjustment for micro contrast. Is that also your impression?
The lens is sharp, unfortunately "micro contrast" is beyond my understanding so i can't tell you. I would not recommend getting the Olympus 75-300mm lens because of its lack of image stabilization, it really matters for telephoto lenses. Almost all of my videos are using post processing image stabilization. I have since bought a panasonic 100-400mm lens and i am going to sell this one. I would opt for the panasonic 100-300mm lens instead of the olympus 75-300mm although it isn't as sharp.
@@Jackaranda_ Thank you for your response, as it is very useful for me. Micro contrast is a bit of a vague term. I guess what I meant that the transition between colors seems a little bit smeared, as if a light source from the side had the effect of under saturating the colors. I find the confusion about all these terms daunting, particularly because you never know whether people are talking about the scene, the image captured in the camera, or the menu items in their photo editing program. I prefer your clear, experience-based response to all the fancy terms on earth.
