DEHANCER....its nice but...
There is a learning curve with dehancer. In this video i show exactly what that learning curve is. And if it is not worth the time. This is my second time ever digging into it.

    This is a joke. GVM makes trash. The accuracy of the color temperature and light output is what makes Aputure a professional light and the GVM a toy.

      @@drewromano6324 Output isnt close. Not from the professional tests I've seen. And skin accuracy isnt a thing. You need to test the color accuracy of the light. But enjoy your little channel. It's cute.

      @@_FrontFootFilms_I’m sure you have used a vector scope before. And I’m sure you have noticed that in different lighting situations you get different skin accuracy. So really what was tested here was the CRI. Meaning how true to life the colors look. Color temperature has nothing to do with Color Rendering Index. I tested CRI and in my tests using tools that give you accurate reedings the light performed well. Meaning that an apple will look like an apple. Or skin will look true to life. So at 5600k the CRI was just as accurate as aputure in some cases. Btw I am an aputure fan boy. I don’t care about brand tho. I care about use case.

      @@drewromano6324 - Agreed. I remember when GVM was something you wouldn't throw at a dog, but they've upped their game (not as "significant" as some other brands, but much better than they used to be) and seem to realize if you put out a decent product you will sell more. I stayed away from GVM for years because of their poor quality, but last year when I needed a 300 watt single source light, and I don't have the money for Aputure, I looked at reviews of the SD300S and SD300D. I was interested in the single hue light (5600) because I look to get the most brightness out of a light possible, and I have gels if needed. From the reviews I read (mostly) and some of the review videos I saw quality was still somewhat hit or miss, but if you hit you did not have any problems. Last year there was a great sale on the light for $300. I got it, and when it arrived I tested it at 100% for 2 hours, and there was no problems, and it looked great. It has been very useful over the past year. The GVM SD600S just arrived TODAY. I will be running it through the same 2 hour test to make sure everything functions as expected. It was on Amazon new for $459, and also had a $100 coupon to take down even more. I suspected GVM may be looking to move these lights in order to focus attention on their newer Pro line, and I think I was right. Hopefully GVM will continue to improve and provide even better equipment while still offering a worthwhile savings. BTW, most all my other lights are Amarans, including 60d, 100d, 200x and P60C. I am a fan of Aputure as well, and appreciate their Amaran line.

    also Aputure has an app for their lights

    • @1001Hobbies
      @1001Hobbies 4 місяці тому

      So does GVM. The Sidus App that Aputure uses states in the Privacy Policy that the app will access your web browsing history on your phone. That's a deal breaker for me. To just turn the brightness up or down with my phone does not REQUIRE my web browsing history be sent to Sidus. I stopped reading after that.

    Great review. Doesn't seem like much difference for the price. I am also thinking that the GVM chip is outputting less because it's Bicolor. A comparison with the 600X would probably give slightly closer results.

    Thanks for the video! Love mine. The gripes are tiny compared to the utility and price. I hear a lot of people dogging this light but find me a better light with more output and options for a cheaper price.. It's so odd when people expect premium products for budget prices. What GVM is doing Is democratizing film lighting even more than it already has been and if people cant get great results with this light, the problem isnt the light 😂❤

    Nice review. Got almost the same observations. My 650B generates ~14k lux, they promise 21k :D. Aputure can hit 24k lux at 1m. When I compared them, seems like Aputure gives you 1 additional stop. Really useful for fighting the Sun in the windows :D. Regarding the skintones, I think I like GVMs + Light Dome III more than Aputure. Dome III 2 stop diffusion seems like Magic cloth, and it creates a bit warmer skin. So it also depends on the diffusion. What diffusion your 8x8 has?

    I do myself a lot of corporate video abroad and those tips are helpful! I go alone, so I do have to make compromises. You go on the plane with the peli and the backpack? Usually I only carry a big backpack, everytime they see a peli case they want to take it away and check it. Did you have any problems? They allow both bags in the cabin?

    • @drewromano6324
      @drewromano6324 8 місяців тому

      So that is something worth bringing up. Sometimes you run into problems and they want you to check a bag. They don’t want you bringing both backpack and pelican. In this case I usually have cargo pants on. I can put lenses and breakables in there. As long as the gear isn’t too big. Or jacket pockets. But I usually figure out a way to check a bag and take out breakables

I'ts been a hassle for me because sometimes, even when they specify that devices with integrated non removable batteries can be in checked luggage, they make take it with me so they take more space. Sometimes I have gotten away with that: say that you have batteries and devices with batteries in the bag.
