FULL METAL MEL
United States
Приєднався 14 лют 2020
FULL METAL MEL is a band made up of Melissa and Sam Keeley, a married couple who love music. Sam started playing guitar in 1984 at the age of ten, and Melissa started playing guitar 3 years ago after 22-years of Sam saying "you already play Clarinet, you should learn guitar", and after 22-years of badgering, Mel relented after several "medicinal" beers.
FULL METAL MEL mainly plays original songs with the occasional cover, and we span almost every genre from Americana to Doom Metal.

Sympathy For the Devil
The only reason we have a video this week is because we have done this song before. Early in the week, we realized that our interface was dying, at the same time work got really busy. We managed to get the interface replaced, and against all odds we managed to do something different with this song. Not just something different than what the Stones did, but something different than we did the last time we covered it.

Red Right Hand

Halloween month continues as the Cult Of MEL warns you of Nick Cave's Red Right Hand. Fun fact: this song was way harder to cover than we thought it would be given the time we had to do it, but it was also super fun. Hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed doing it.

If you have been following FULL METAL MEL since we started, you know how seriously we take the spooky season. So it's time to fire up the strobes, and the smoke machine and rock out our favorite Halloween songs, like this classic from Roky Erikson.

After a long day going to a wayyyyyy over-sold Renaissance festival Mel and I needed a cocktail and a heavy jam session, especially since we will be playing a short set next Saturday in Traverse City with some help from our good friends in Rolling Dirty.

Unbelievably, we managed to record a new song this week. I wrote this sludgy blues tune last Sunday night then our workweek exploded all over us and we never got to work on it until after lunch this afternoon. That means that not only didn't we practice the song, we recorded every part of it in a single take basically making it up as we went along. I'm pretty happy with it, for what it is.

We are continuing our weekend full of covers. Yesterday we played a super happy song about sex and violence, so today we thought we would play, and I'm being very literal here, the saddest song we could think of.

Mel and I haven't done a cover in a while, and since we were feeling very spiritual this week we decided to do the most spiritual song we could think of with this Mattoid cover from his album "Glory Holy". Hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it.

Mel and I were not even going to have a jam session today. We both had very busy Saturdays involving golf and wheeling. But after getting home from a late afternoon Jeep exploration session west of town, both of us felt like having a cocktail in the studio. Just like the after-school specials warned us, having drinks in a room full of sexy instruments leads to making music.

This is our first new song since playing at the Pond Jam festival in northern Michigan last week. We felt like we really needed to write something heavy in celebration of getting to go play and make new friends.

Just hours after a 6-hour drive back from Michigan's Upper Peninsula and all of its deeply wooded glory, Mel and I are basking in the afterglow of a fantastic family vacation where we got to spend time and maximize recreation with almost every member of my family from my dad on down the line. To celebrate, and relive as much of it as possible, Mel and I made a cocktail, had a jam session, and s...

With work constraints ahead of vacation, Mel and I just couldn't make the time for making music this week. But starting tomorrow, we have nothing but thinking about and playing music for the next two weeks.

For this week's brand-new original song I wanted to do something different as far as arrangement, and for once, play our amps clean. I'm not going to go into what I wrote the song about so feel free to write your own backstory for this one.

Mel and I had a busy morning, after a bunch of busy days in a row, so we really needed to cut loose and experiment with some of the heaviest psychedelic blues we could come up with!

I bet
Love the cheap 80's horror movie style video! Cool tune too!
That's the look I was going for. What I didn't anticipate was how blinding the combination of strobes and smoke machine would be. We literally couldn't see anything by the end. Also, I first heard this song in the movie "Return of the Living Dead". It's the scene where the funeral director puts himself into the crematory. great scene, great movie.
..Oh, the SG. (Good. Re-record with SG-woman singing.)
Very cool groove!
I dig it. 🤘
Love it
"I've taken too much Robotussin". You need a Spotify publishing.
Our winter plan is to re-record 12 to 13 of these songs with a full band and drop them on the stream services and a limited vinyl release. THe band that backs us up for important gigs (like the aforementioned festival) is booked until winter. But it is in the works.
Great video! It was engaging from start to finish.
Your drummer is invisible.
Believer! Love. Maybe people were too gob- smacked to say a thing eh?
Glad to be the first to comment on this one, Absolutely Awsome, great guitar sounds
Eggs! Ick!
Is Bren sporting a Richard cheese jacket?
He had never heard of him, but he does now
Great name with a story and great jam!
Best house tour video!! ❤️ Do I spy with my little eye some old Cerwin Vega floor speakers in the family room? 🤓
sick setup
Who packs up their house, travels across country in a week, unpacks their studio, and performs a new song?? This POWER DUO!! 🙌🎶💪🫶
Love this video, but notice Logan got to drink 3 drinks and you only got to drink during his drum track 🤓😁🎶🤘🤘
Gonna miss you guys!! Save travels and adventures up in the big mitten!! Love you!! 🙌❤️
Yeah this is cool...
Sunday Moring with metal Blues why not ?
Hell yes!
Marty mcfly layin it down
Well done! Spotting a PRS there too! 🙂
The PRS was Mel's first guitar. She has since moved on to a 77 SG Standard and we gave the PRS away to our son's best friend when his Shecter was stolen his first week at college. We still have weekly visitations with the guitar, though.
🤘
My face just melted off,!!that's some heavy shreddery
Keep rocking guys!
Nice groove!
Like ZZ Top sound. Nice... 🤘
Good music bro. Stay heavy! 🤘😈🎸
Knowing when to say when, as it turns out, is a true virtue. I enjoy you two fuzzing out the jams. Keep it up.
Never got the chance to see Mudhoney. Will make the best of my misfortune with Metal Mels' version of this song. Pretty sonically sublime.
This is real good!
Oh man, its 4:20 again. The perfect length of time , actually...
Badass and atmospheric!
SlooooooWE Gooooo :)
That was a good ending to a relatively lackluster Friday. Here's to takin it slow.
Tales from a Hawaiian Whale Watching zodiac boat trip..."See that black dot on the horizon? Itsa whale! Oh sorry but we cant get any closer. That would be illegal." Not exactly whale riding but it will have to do for now. Nice riffage.
We were signed up for the whale-watching catamaran ride but got really drunk with the house band the night before and overslept. Around 11am that day, we head down to the beach to play some guitar and drink off the hangover and end up watching 5 or 6 Orcas surface and dive over and over. I don't know how far out they were, but they were close enough to see that they were Orcas. That night we had drinks with a couple who went on the catamaran and described it very much like you just did. It made us feel a lot better about oversleeping. I did shoot cell phone video of the event and would have uploaded it to the FULL METAL MEL channel, but I wasn't watching what I was doing and only caught one tail in the corner of the shot, and a bunch of audio of us saying things like "holy shit"
I tried to jump on a whale shark. Then realized I’m from the desert as the boat drifted away and I was super gassed out. Mexicans don’t put on the legal facade as much, at least not when $50 is involved.
No whale stories here Just a comment on a great jam You two deserve some love ❤️
Needs margaritas
we had beers
Mel got a sharp trim. The jam is plenty tasty. You makin records? And this really isn't metal its way better than what passes for metal these days.
we will be recording in early summer after we move
Kind of like Firesign Theater Pigeons in the Park but kind of not. Mandatory Vacation?.... "The free ice cream is making me fat and they make you go to the bathroom..." Timothy Leary and Jerry Garcia got out while the getting was good.
Dufte! Gruß aus Berlin. 👍
Nice 😊 proves you don't have to play at 100 mph to sound good 🤘🏻
This bad ass I don’t care what they say 💪🇺🇸👊👊👊🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😎🇺🇸
I hear bass !
Mixing is hard.
as cheesy as this is its good stuff
Sure was fun listening to them talk for an hour before we heard any music
looks cozy in there!
Good vibes, l would just say: dude be thankful for that beautiful, talented, and humble woman, she makes you who you are. You would be empty without her!😉
I like the heavy metal riffS. When I was 50, I did the battle of the bands that night, and drink a bottle of 108 proof, wild turkey, and still played music till 3 o’clock in the morning at my ranch!😊
It will be Tito's and sodas for me. The band that is backing us up during the show asked how late are we planning to play? My answer was "We can play as long as we can stand up". Thanks for forging the way with your 50th, I will try and live up to your fine example with mine!
4:04 Has that DOOM Metal feel.
