Pros and Cons of growing food in a community garden~ honest opinions after 1 year
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to grow food in a community garden?
We live in a 900 square foot apartment Homestead and we decided to join a community garden one year ago! In this video I go over the pros and cons of joining a community garden. We have learned a lot over the past year and there are definitely many surprising things we were aware of when we started about community gardens!

DIY haircut between salon visits ~ unicorn method
Переглядів 407Рік тому
Between salon visits I use the unicorn method to cut and style my hair! This saves time and money, a huge component as to why I looked into a DIY haircut style! As a busy mom I really appreciate doing this 2-3x a year. Hair products I use aren't anything fancy, all Trader Joe's products. I use the organic tea tree oil shampoo, the deep moisturizing mask in place of conditioner, and the hydratin...

Переглядів 112Рік тому
Welcome to Bunk Bed Homestead! This is my first video on our channel, listen in to what it looks like to #apartmenthonestead with a family of 5. In this video I share: Who am I? ~How I got into homesteading ~What I am doing in our apartment homestead right now ~Areas of growth ~What types of videos I will be posting Thanks for listening!
I just ordered my first box. I can’t wait to get it.
Do they ship to Florida?
All the Climate crisis stuff is bs, but selling climate nuts on climate friendly products can boost business. Really though, co2 is good for plants, in some other countries they attack nitrogen which is also essential for plants. It is all a global plot to shut down the system and kill billions of people. They think there are too many people and are killing us from numerous angles.
Thank you for this review! Read _Cows Save the Planet: And Other Improbable Ways of Restoring Soil to Heal the Earth_. All about regenerative ag.
Love that!
This is a very helpful video for those of us that are unfamiliar with Wild Pastures and are interested in potentially trying it out. I also appreciate the info on bone broth, as I’ve yet to make my own. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Bone broth is so easy and nourishing! You can totally do it!
Chickens don’t eat grass, they eat bugs and cow poop. And pigs will eat absolutely anything. Whatever is available they will eat it. Including their own poop.

You are welcome!
Why no new videos?
I am behind 🤪. I post more regularly on Instagram if you want to follow me there! My handle is also bunk bed Homestead
What the heck is a "apartment homestead"? 😂 that's basically impossible
That's what I thought at first too! But I learned that what is considered "homesteading" can be broadly defined within the community, and what we do at home in our 900sq foot apartment to reduce our dependence on "the systems" some consider to be done in the spirit of homesteading. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion of course but that's how we see it!
I just ordered beef and pork box I'm excited. A little disappointed there was no beef brisket
Will have special cuts come in occasionally! Look in the add-on section each month and you can add on special things like, especially during holidays.
Thank you for video, I am looking for a order of beef and chicken, is that customized? on a 4 week mthly order.
Yes it absolutely is! Click the link in the description and it will take you to wild pastures where you can create an account and choose your box size and types of meat. Everything is completely customizable and so easy to change if needed! The link above is special link that will give you $20 off and 20% off for your lifetime of membership as well, which has been such a blessing to our family because the prices are just so darn good anyway. Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you, I especially appreciate your warning about leaking. I am looking forward to my first box.
So glad you decided to jump into it, it's such a great service! It seems to mostly be the ground beef that leaks, the porks and chicken I haven't had too much of an issue with
Thanks for doing this video! Great information.
Glad you appreciated it, I know I would have like to seen something like this before considering all the different options that I was looking into!
Live your video I'm new to your channel..
You should freeze your cornmeal and corn masa for 2 days.
i look forward to the bread recipe! i recently kicked out eggs, gluten from my diet.
I would just get 5 gallon buckets for the 25lb bags or more in the future. They have a 3 pack and using gamma lids helps. I do regular backing and gluten free baking and keep things I don’t use all the time in quart jars or large canisters and the rest I store in gallon buckets or freezer depending on what it is. Im heavy on seasonings when cooking because america doesn’t use herbs enough IMO. So I bulk buy seasonings and store in mason jars. But since you’re a small space I would just find a basket that you can keep your seasoning jars in and store away. Or if you have wall space you can make a slice rack or shelf out of a lot of different things. I save all my glass jars and reuse those for drinking glasses and pantry items. You can keep things under your beds, in closets wherever you need to haha. My parents live on our property in an RV and they get pretty creative there.
Also if you don’t have space for the gallon bucket perhaps get it but create a little box that could almost act as a seat but open up where the bucket lives. Think tiny home style where they use stairs, tables and seating as storage. :)
Walmart has 20lb pantry containers with handles that I love. I use them for beans, pasta, rice, sugars, and more! Great for large families like ours, and prettier than 5 gallon buckets. I have found 50 lbs of most items fit great between one five gallon bucket in hidden storage and the pantry containers. This gives you a pretty pantry and a longer storage pantry.

I store my spices in mason jars
Oh that's a great idea! What size do you use?
@@bunkbedhomestead7745. One pound will fit in a quart mason jar.
Oh that's so helpful! I just figured out a way that we can put half pint mason jars in one of our drawers for spices and this makes me so happy!
The bugs (I know-gross) can be in every grain and flour, even store bought. You can vacuum pack your items and the problem will be solved without freezing. Lack of oxygen will eradicate the pest. I personally have never had a problem with any of the grains or flour from Azure or the store. I use the vacuum sealer and freezer to prolong the shelf life. Have a great day.
That's super helpful! We don't have a vacuum sealer. We have had one bag of oatmeal from TJs that had a live bug in it about 2 years ago but I had never heard of this until we started doing Azure! How long does something need to be vacuumed and stored for bugs to die? Pretty quick?
@@bunkbedhomestead7745 It depends on what google search you see but I have done it for a week with no issues. Most of the time you will be able to tell if you have a problem with the grains or flour when you get them. I open and inspect all of the things from the store or Azure when I get them home, then I vacuum seal or use oxygen absorbers in the glass storage containers or buckets. I’ve only seen people have an issue if they store things in original packaging, which could mean they came from another nearby product. Just be sure and check everything from Azure immediately and if you have any problems call the within 5-7 days to get a refund.
Thank you so much! This is super helpful!
Congratulations on your channel!
thanks dear!! It's going to be fun, I have no idea what I'm doing but its going to be a great growth experience!
Yay!!! I love that you started a UA-cam channel for your homesteading!!!
