That mirror is way too exposed to scratches and damage from foreign debris! Otherwise, I would love to have one as soon as I rob a bank!
Seems like the shroud would really benefit from some kind of sewn in spring loaded hoops. Hoola hoops or something. Could charge another +$1000 for the 6 hoola hoops.
dream scope right there
these are honestly incredible. That prices point for that much aperture cannot be beaten
I want dat.
He never mentions collimation. Is it collimated after he set it up? IF so, does it keep collimation?
Richard, Are you serious? I’ve owned an Obsession. You’re, well, … unaware. Unaware of the quality.
@@groutdoctor Umm... gee, just asking a question. Don't get all bent out of shape.
It truly is the lord of the flies.
Obsession has not made a video in 11 years.
You state you recommend a paracorr coma corrector for any scope UNDER f4.2. So there is no need for the paracorr with the 18" UC?
I think I need one.
Nice but expensive, I'd still want it!
Thanks for sharing. I was amazed every time you set a part down in the dirt.
Collimation takes about two minutes.
So you have to collimate it EVERY TIME?
Beautiful designed and constructed scope, with some nice accessory gear (eyepieces / paracorr / etc.) Better drop it all on the dirt.
How much does it weight? I'm thinking that might fit in a mountain bike trailer. Would be nice because one can pack a tent and sleeping bag as well as food and stuff onto a mountain bike. Especially with all the compact options for tents and sleeping bags these days. If it's motorised with a 49c.c. engine and you peddle as well that would make for a fun time camping in the mountains.
No collimation problems?
Nice telescope
Like so many simple things, I have a hard time to understand how this is worth 7000+ USD. But I'm a simpleton, apparently there are plenty that think this is worth the nearly same price as a very nice used diesel truck.
What telescope are you comparing it to? It doesn't make sense comparing it to a truck, apples and oranges.
Smood47 I think I’d buy a scope like this for around $5000 or between $5k and $6k but I feel like $7000 is just a bit too steep for what you get.
Woooooooo 100th sub
is that 20p or sth?
Shoot the cameraman. My hamster could have made a better video.
What's a Hamster ?
I own one of these 12.5" Obsessions. Bought it secondhand at about half price.. Love using it.
Damn, just dropped the Nagler like it was nothing.
does it come with the sock?
hello,Im from chile,Im a beginer on astronomy,my cuetion its if its possible my self costrution a telescope like yours?becouse here its very expensive any telescope...thankz!
4;25 I'll be traveling to Chile this September, can't wait to see the Southern Sky from there.
How did it gp???
@@shaquilleoatmeal1048: It was a great astronomy tour of Chile and the Southern Sky. Our tour group got to visit the major observatories like Cerro Tololo and Paranal. The sky is so dark in the desert that the stars appeared bright and breathtaking. We also got to visit cities and many interesting places by bus from La Serena to Antofagasta. Some of us wanted to visit the mine where the miners got trapped but our tour guide said it was not on the schedule, so we didn't.
Looks great!!!
entre el viento los paseos en carretilla el suelo con arena y el trato recibido a todo el conjunto, debio de quedar para tirarlo xdddd
Que me digan en donde!
i looked thru one of these at the hodges gardens star party in louisiana. awesome.... the guy also had tele view ethos lenses. yeah. m104 was insain! ghost of jupiter was cool too.
@ParaglidingManiac I use a Crown Royal bag for my LightBridge 16's secondary...felt whiskey bottle bag with draw strings...pretty much prefect as is.....I gotta rebuild my LB 16 as a UC. The Meade is a beast to lug arround.
I have an older 12.5" mirror from galaxy optics and it is fantastic. I would like to get a more compact 18" soon.
Was that a sock on a secondary mirror?:)
@acasasc I would hope not and I would have done the same. TeleVue eyepieces and that type of scope does not come cheap, even if you do own the company. What a shame to be so reckless.
@Djennings16 Was that a TeleVue the eyepiece he just dropped onto the ground??? I would have killed someone just for putting the TeleVue on the dirt, not to say the telescope!
I would like to suggest you could design into the shroud some loops and a fiberglass or some floxable rod to slip through the shroud that wraps around like a halo or a belt through the belt loops of jeans, to keep the shroud from blowing into the V sections of the Truss tubes. It would be very effective, and only add 1 mre flexable light tent style rod to loop through the shroud loops, it would act like an External halo for the OD of the shroud similar to the big one on the bottom. Cheers, IC.
m-42 here i come !
m-42 here i come !
Do you have to collimate this before every use?
there has to be a cheaper way to make mirrors.. these things are like 75% of the cost!
There is, and they're not as good You can get an Orion 16" with goto for 3800, but the mirror obviously won't be as good. You get what you're willing to pay for.
More than likely its a demo model. The guy owns the whole company remember.
Hey, some folks have that kind of money just sitting there, and they have a hobby. You should see what some of the CCD cams go for that they use in imaging !
too bad i costs $5000, i rather buy a new car and buy a smaller scope. thats crazy
$5000, yeah i know
nice telescope, except its 7000 bucks! holy cow! i would be much happier buying a new car for a cheaper not so compact DOB. Good video though!
Awesome scope but I cannot beleive he did not lay a tarp down before just plopping it down on the dirt like that. If that was my scope, I would have killed someone for putting up in the dirt, lol. Just awesome and maybe someday the DOB God will shine on me and I can get one. Thanks, David
Very nice :) The only thing I am concerned is the primary mirror. It seems to be not enough protected from stratches, etc.
Is that from your experience or speculation? Serious question.
You forgot to put the sock back on the secondary mirror! But great video!
That is a nice and sweet 18" Obsession, and I wondered how you put that fabric on,that is so easy!
Dave, It's cool to see the final design. Wow, very nice! I got my 15" Obsession a few years ago. The views have been wonderful.
you alive?
