There was probably a sign somewhere warning about possible clearance issues and possible high-centering posted well-before the rail crossing that this driver didn't pay attention to.

I wonder how long this truck was stuck here. Some of these accidents happen a long time after the truck gets stuck because most people aren't aware that there is a blue sign on the crossing signal with a useful phone number. You can call it to report emergencies, and they can route you to the dispatch office to have the train stop well before that crossing (if there's time).

first thing he should have done was disconnect the trailer. but maybe it was stuck or he didn't know how? don't know how long he was stuck there before the gates came down. at the very least, they should post 'no lowboy trailers' at these type crossings, it may help prevent some collisions.

I thought semi trucks and oversized loads aren't allowed to cross a railroad hump like the one in the video, because they will probably get stuck.

It's amazing how many incompetent truckers there are. He should have his licence revoked, he made no effort to contact the railroad.

It's amusing to me - engines are 85 feet long. When a train stops one or two car lengths after a crossing, "if only" they had known like 175 feet ahead of time, it would have worked out. I was on an 11,000 foot heavy train. Downhill. A man was UNDER his truck as we approached the rural crossing. He tried the number on the sign, but didn't get a signal. Lucky him, we were going less than 25 and somehow managed to stop about 300 feet from the crossing. Then we had to wait an hour for one of our maintenance trucks to arrive and lift the back of his flatbed so he could back up. It was a light load he had, like three metal culverts. I reckon he could have shunted the tracks and forced a stop or approach signal we had passed.

It’s inconceivable to me that truckers really are THAT stupid…..but they are!!!
