Kames Sprint 5th October 2024 - Westfield Duratec
Final weekend of the 2024 Scottish Sprint Championship and XBC Cross Border Speed Championship, and sadly, this run on Saturday's clockwise layout would turn out to be the final dry run of the season!
Thanks all for a great season, this was another superbly run and organized event through EACC and the XBC CBSC.
Was delighted with this particular run given the circumstances, but a massive well done to Jon Welsh for a sub-87 second run in his Westfield XTR2T 🔥
The car is a road-going Westfield SEiW with a 2-Litre Duratec engine. Tyres are Yokohama Advan A052 all around.
Camera is a GoPro Hero 6 Black 🎥

As you can see, we were incredibly unlucky with the timing of the safety car, arriving right at the moment where the overall leader was lapping me... Had a blast at the MG Car Club Anglesey sprint event last weekend, despite an ongoing clutch issue. Through the wind noise you can just about hear the slipping clutch on corner exits, which unfortunately meant we were only able to use around 60-70% throttle on the straights... So not quite the usual Duratec grunt that we have at our disposal, but lots of fun nonetheless to chuck it around this ...

A little less flamboyant than some earlier runs, but this final run of the day on Sunday ended up being my quickest by a tenth, giving me the win in class A6, as well as fastest road car and 7th overall for the event. Final run of the day in drying conditions. The trickiest part was judging how much grip there would be at each corner as until this point, the whole day had been wet. A successful first weekend in the Westfield with two class wins after superb battles with Peter Marshall and the rest of A6.😊

Really enjoyed our first day with the new car. Lots of grunt, decent handling but a lack of ultimate grip on road tyres make it a pretty enjoyable driving experience! Great battle within the road car class as five of us were separated by less than 3 seconds. This final run of 101.31 moved me ahead of Peter Marshall in his Caterham SL and gave me the class win, hence the post-run excitement....

The final run from my Curborough debut on the 13th of August 2023. As this was only my second ever dry run at this venue there is a lot of room for improvement with my driving, and with new tyres and less front right locking this run can certainly be bettered next time out! Onboard from my 3rd quickest run at Blyton park on August 6th 2023. The time was a 59.68 which was just outside of the existing national club level course record. I managed to do a couple of quicker runs in the low 59's but this one was less scrappy! My fastest time of 59.33 did give me the new national class record and beat the existing national course record but Glynn Sketchley beat me to FTD...

Haha glad you enjoy! Was running the camera in that way this year to try and convey a more realistic sense of speed, and the ultra-wide angle. Felt like it didn't look right as a narrower 4K view in my first few onboards with the car :)

It certainly is😂 Obviously it looks like I am inducing it more than I need to at times... And occasionally that's true, you can see the understeer through church around 0:43 when the rear catches up so that is me just throwing in and deliberately rotating. But then in the last corner you can see how I didn't have to induce it at all and I was turning left throughout the entire right-hand hairpin haha! It's a road car on road tyres so it shouldn't be surprising that we are getting plenty of understeer and oversteer, but once we get the clutch sorted and everything running sweetly we will take a look at other setup options beyond just softening it.

why is yours a single seater but some are alot wider and the drive sits on the right
It all depends on what series the car was built to compete in. Not sure on the current rules of LMP2’s and Hypercars but I know in the past, many of the major prototype categories have had rules that force cars to have two seats. Also, some ‘prototypes’ such as radicals are also built as road cars, so you will see some with passenger seats for the road 😊 This is a friend of mines Spire GT3 which he very kindly gave me a shot of that weekend when our single seater broke down. It’s very much purpose built to be an incredible racing car, and it very much is!

Today, I finished 17 years of age. Next year when I'll get my license I would want to buy a 350z. I want to keep the car for 4 years. Is it a good idea? What are some tips for inexperienced drivers ? I'm 6'1 and 210lbs, will my size be a problem ? I liked the video so I'm subbing and hoping to see more content about the 350Z.
