Building Your Own outdoor fireplace starts with a strong foundation.
Prosím, jak se bránit před mravenci na stromech kvůli mšicím? Děkuji
Love the Kit! Hate that I can not find it, or comparable for a reasonable price in canada!
9:58 i laughed so hard at this. good job on that countertop. love that your kinds are so interested in your project
thanks Sam!!!
Excellent choice on the framing
Can't ignore the great stone work on the fireplace. Oh, the concrete top turned out great. Pretty good work for a first timer.
Thanks!!!!!
Nice series. Well done.👏👏
Did you wrap an expansion joint around the 6x6 posts?
We did not. Potentially, should have but have not seen any cracking to date from around that area. Thanks for watching
Looks amazing, very well done. Thank you for sharing.
How did you attach the framing to the slab? Did I miss that in the video?
I didn't focus on it much but I put long concrete anchors about every other stud gap there are probably 15 or so around the entire base. I should also note that I used pressure treated lumber for the base of the structure.
Y no sigues puliendo y lustrando?
Not sure I understand? How do you polish all of the concrete before putting the stone on? 13:04
Thanks for the question!!! I should have poured the countertops and wet sanded them first. Then all of the mess would not have dripped over the stones. I could have then covered the countertops in cardboard or blankets to protect them while we put the stone on the face of the fireplace.
Gorgeous! ! What size is your outdoor room ??? Thanks 😊
Stupid question: is there plywood under the concrete board? I'm looking to do a grill table and I'm going with a concrete countertop. I'm doing a 3 x 6 table. Thanks!
We did not, but I made sure that there was plenty of cross braces to support the cement board. Thanks for watching
this fireplace has no damper? what did you use as for a damper?
Why would you need a damper for an outdoor fireplace?
@@LDSKIPPER1911 now I realize it's outside
Subscribed! It’s nice to see the family helping! 🙏🏼 God bless… beautiful Home!
Thank you for the tips! I appreciate it! 🙏🏼
Looks awesome, where did you get this kit?
What type of material for the inside of chimney to fireproof it ?
it is a double walled SS vent system. I have the install documented in later video. It was a bit of a challenge to manage, but once in it has worked great!!!!
What stone did you use for the fireplace? I’m looking for something like that right now
Looks great to me!
Nice Video, got a thumbs up from me when your kid stepped in front of the camera. Love that you included the fam.
Bravo, très beau travail, félicitation à vous deux, AIE... Bravo, very nice work, congratulations to both of you, AIE...
I absolutely loved this series of videos. I am no carpenter by any means, but this inspired me to start looking to do as much as possible on my own! Greatly appreciated watching the whole project come together.
Thanks for the kind words and best of luck with your project!!!!
My question is both durarock and permabase say they have to a sheathing installed anyone know if this is true. I was planning on installing over steel studs over dura rock but stone veneer sales asked what I had durarock on and had me call USG sales rep who said same thing. Anything over 36” should have sheathing
Though I will say I’ve seen durarock on wood studs inside.
1 word: Grautenator. Look it up.
How is the cost for this job?
How is de cost for this fireplace
I hate when people post things like this and dont talk about cost
Where you live?
What did you tie the side walls of the fireplace into at the top? Was there a truss above the ceiling board?
Great question....we were able to hit a truss and some cross bracing up there that was added once we got up there.
Great video series. In hindsight would you recommend building the frame around the fireplace before or after assembling the firebox
Exelent job m3n 🏠🏠🏠🏠👍👍👍
Looks amazing! What type of stones did you use?
Great job, maybe a follow up video of the project from start to finish at the end of the summer with some Q&A. How did the fire work out good draft no smoke? when it rains as in Ireland does the rain go side ways and did it impact the TV. How did you use the area and where did people gather the most ie at the counter, by the fire on seats or the ledge by the fire
Thanks for the support Hugh....great idea. We will look to make that video soon. What I can say in the short term is that the television made it through a fairly wet midwest US winter and the drafting has worked well.
Looks great. What stones did you use. Looks like what I need for my project.
West by God Virginia!
Why the new concrete slab in the middle under the firebox? Did you demo the existing slab and add a footing?
We added the rebar and significantly increased the thickness. Looking back not sure how necessary it was but I wanted to be safe.
Nice to see the family working together!
Thanks! it was a fun project. The best is when they take the camera and start asking the questions
Came out great. Next time layout your stones next to you on a quick mock-up, makes it so much faster to install. Less thinking and selecting stones.
Thanks for the kind words Jim and for supporting the channel.
Loving the videos. Building all this tgis summet. What size is the shelter?
The shelter is roughly 25 x 30. thanks for supporting the channel
I do have question where can I order the same kit for the fire place and your project is awesome
I got mine from Woodland Direct (not sponsored), but there are dealers located through out the country. Thanks for supporting the channel!
@@byo-livingabestlife8230 They have many avail on their website may I ask which one in specific you purchased for this build?
A lot easier way and stronger would've been to put half inch plywood and the 2x4 on together, then screw face form to 2x4
Thanks for the input. and I agree there are many different ways to support the concrete. We went the way we did based on the materials we had. Thanks for watching the channel
It's looking beautiful!!! Amazing job 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks for the support!!! The fun stuff is next :)
Thank you so much for sharing your video!!! Any updates or new videos on the update of your project!!! You guys are doing a great job 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Editing the next video now....trying our best to make the painful puzzle of laying the stone somewhat entertaining and educational... Thanks for watching and the support! The video will be out soon.
Nice work - i have never bought foam for that use, but I have used it for that purpose, great idea to keep it around and reuse.
Works great!!! thanks for supporting the channel
I forgot to show you my outside fireplace it's pretty cool, it's not a kit though ua-cam.com/video/m4r6Kr1Plno/v-deo.html
I am going to redo my indoor fireplace, i think your kit is great, much easier than making it from block.
They have several different size options and it was pretty easy to put together. My only issue was that some of the rebar fell out during shipping and I had to get a piece of angle iron to span the opening of the fireplace. Neither was a huge deal, but I would have assumed it would have been included for the money spent.
Hey mate, found your videos by searching concrete countertops, love the space you two have created. Going to try do something similar down here in Australia, thanks for the inspiration!
Best of luck and thanks for watching the channel!!!!
It looks great
What stone did you use? I plan on building a U shaped bar on the over hang of our pool bathroom we built this past year, and we were talking about doing brick and stone to match our house but this stone is pretty close to ours and this might be a good option. Lonnie, sorry for the delay. We used Stone Craft Ohio Heritage. The one comment that I would make is that we had to do a fair amount of sorting. In several boxes the stones had grey stripes on them. It was a failed effort to add color to the stones (in my opinion).
Plastic sheeting works great in covering the stone, also if you seal the stone first, let cure and before you polish wet the stone, then rinse any residue from polishing.
I’m interested in how that transition from the fireplace to the double walled stove pipe looks. I’ve been thinking of doing the exact same thing on my build and yours is the only one where I’ve seen it done. Trying to give my wife a visual of it lol.
Frank, Sorry for the delay. I am working on the next video currently (took some time off over the holidays). Thanks for the support!!!
