Hiking and Wild Camping in Scotland ⋆ Fife Coast Path, St Andrews - Crail ⋆
Переглядів 1585 місяців тому
More from our trip to Scotland. We left St Andrews and headed out on the Coast Path. It was just one days walk and one days wild camp. It was interesting to pass by the Caiplie Caves, just after Crail. Caiplie Caves - 56.243332°N 2.647271°W We walked on to Cellardyke and Anstruther in the morning to find a coffee. Here by the coast there was no midges so it was good to for wild camping. Timesta...

I am going to sell my good old bike - a 2010 Moto Guzzi V7 Classic. I'll miss it - so I made this video to help me remember what it's like to take this for a spin. The angle is bad and the audio is worse but - good enough. I'm going to take a break from biking - actually I crashed that scooter I rented in Corfu, that was my first 'crash' in ten years or so riding motorbikes. I was going round a...
Isle of Arran - wild camping, ancient sites, wildlife
Переглядів 1955 місяців тому
We spent a few days exploring the Isle of Arran in Scotland. We drove to Ardrossan where we picked up the ferry which takes us to Brodick. It was windy and wild feeling, but luckily it stayed dry. A gannet flew side by side with us for most of the crossing. It was the last ferry of the day and it was late when we arrived so we found a campsite and pitched our tents. The next day promised to hav...

For the second stage of our coast path trip we were walking from Helston - Falmouth. The weather had improved which made the backpacking much easier. The bivvy bags were easy to dry in the sun so it wasn’t so bad that they got damp from the dew and rain showers. Helston - Gunwalloe was just a short stage for the end of the day. It took much longer than I expected to walk out of Helston. Would h...

Phoebe’s first time on the SW coast path. For me, the second. When I was younger I took a backpack, an army blanket and a bivvy bag and walked from St Ives to Penzance. I remember I was so cold at night because I had such inadequate gear - no mattress and no sleeping bag. Nevertheless, I persevered and walked hard and long days to make it Penzance. Now I have much better gear so it was relative...

    Fantástico. Pura esencia. Quiero hacerlo este año en mayo (el año pasado hice el francés desde SJPP). Voy solo. Me ha parecido ver muy poca gente, también en los albergues. Gracias por las notas sobre el equipamiento. Ha sido todo muy minimalista. Posiblemente el mejor video que haya visto del Camino Primitivo, sin duda.

    About to attempt this mid feb same route to meet my mom in Leon march 1st to carry on the rest of the way 🥶 looks wonderful , was it pretty easy to find a place along the way during March ?

    • @robinfrench1914
      @robinfrench1914 Місяць тому

      Sounds good, I wish I was going again. Yes it was easy to find places spontaneously. We never booked ahead, stayed flexible and were never without somewhere to stay. If I remember correctly, before mid-march not all albergues are open so if you plan on deviating from the 'stages' and were aiming for a specific place/albergue, it's perhaps worth double checking it will be open. I'm sure when you're walking you will meet lots of friendly pilgrims, hospitaleros and locals who will help if you need advice on the next destination. Buen camino

    Drop the exhaust system for access. To change the copper exhaust gaskets I found it really easy to drop the entire exhaust system off the V7ii. Remove the four exhaust nuts. Remove the two Lambda. Remove the two silencer bolts. Pull forwards. The system will drop, an assistant might be handy. If you have not fitted the centre stand, do so, maintenance is so much easier.

  • @jeffslade1892
    @jeffslade1892 5 місяців тому

    The various V7 marques use different amounts of oil - do check your book. The spark plugs often come out of the box at 0.9mm gap. I have had a garage fit them at that, and they misfire. They must be set to 0.70mm as the book says (this is the normal gap for electronic ignition). The "0.70" to 2.d.p. means 0.695 to 0.704, exactly 0.70mm.

    Nice one. In June 1998, after many years of walking segments, I walked the whole SWCP. The St Ives to Penzance stretch is so special. The memories of scenery and especially wildlife remain: juvenile adders basking; a three-legged fox; a v. elderly badger taking a daytime nap on the path itself; peregrine falcons; thresher sharks (possibly) off Bosigran; and so much more. Was that a jackdaw grumbling at 2:57?

    • @robinfrench1914
      @robinfrench1914 6 місяців тому

      Must have been great to walk the whole way. One day maybe I will do the same. It’s a real challenge though I imagine, not just the distance but the consistently difficult terrain. Think that one was a jackdaw - they were keeping an eye on us for a while. This section was very wild feeling. I thought I saw something large and dark jump out of the water but I couldn’t make out the silhouette. Perhaps a seal but there is the possibility it could have been a shark. Thanks for your comment it was nice to read.

      @@robinfrench1914 When I finished the walk (I added on the Isle of Portland) I wanted to turn around and walk back, retracing my steps and viewing a completely different perspective. As for the thresher sharks below Bosigran, some have scoffed but local fisherman mentioned that they (the sharks) sometimes have an odd social gathering inshore. Once one gets into the 'zone' on remote walks it becomes almost a spiritual trek.
