Flight into US Naval Air Station Alameda, California 1958 - HD Home Movies
Flight from an unknown location into the US Naval Air Station in Alameda, California.
I'm attempting a new technique to convert the 18fps material to 24fps more elegantly. This should bare less artifacts than previous uploads. An additional pass was made to minimize the the inherent flicker that seems to come from this spring driven camera.
Thank you for watching!

Clark's Nutcracker there at the end?
Thanks for the upload!
My grandfather was a career Navy man stationed in Seattle. I can't help but wonder if he was there that day the plane took off.
Seeing these old home movies brings back memories, Washington has every activity you could want,Thanks for sharing!
Great footage! This must be before 1954, as the aircraft they flew in on was a Consolidated PB4Y-2 Privateer, which the US Navy retired in 1954. It was essentially a Liberator with a single vertical tail and different/improved gun turrets. There is also a great shot of an RAF Shackleton MR1 from 120 Squadron in the opening shots, plus great footage of the border and Main Street. It’s the best quality colour film I’ve seen of Gibraltar in that period and the aircraft are a bonus
So nice back then, now this city is a dump, just like all of the west coast cities. They are all dirty and dangerous.
Pretty clear and amazing footage 👍
Great footage! thanks for sharing.
My twin sister and I were born at Seattle General Hospital in October 1955 and grew up in north Seattle I live in Oregon now but am certainly struck, in my visits to Seattle, at how much the city has changed during my 68 years of life thus far.
And now it's an open-air toilet
Hi, is it possible for me to use some of these clips for a disney channel im making? thank you
This is such an awesome video! Thanks for sharing! I walk at this naval base every day and I always wonder what it looked like when it was active and not all run down like now. It's so amazing to see this!
It looked this way pretty much until the late 80s when corporate neoliberalism bulldozed all the affordable small houses and cheap apartments and corner coffee shops and small businesses and bars and music venues, most all are gone. Now rent cost more than anyone makes in a month, nothing but corporate fast food, and people live on the streets who became addicted to corporate opioids
Sick video
Epoque ou tu n'étais pas emmerder par tous ses vendeurs africains. Où tout était plus propre
At 6:34 you can see the remaining 10 or so Convair Tradewind turboprop flying boats in early retirement, the big aircraft at right of the shot. That whole area at Alameda was surplus aircraft in those days. The four retired (1945-56) Martin Mars flying boats were still at Alameda then too, on the north side of the airfield parked along the Oakland Estuary. Also, at 3:08, is the newly-formed Lake Berryessa.
I remember the braniff 707 in 66 coming through the clouds then coming below and seeing lake Washington as one of the most exciting times of my life.
That university of Washington ought to rank as one of the prettiest campuses. My opinion.
If there was a better year to live in Seattle, I would like to know it. Folks who lived in Seattle in the 1950s and 60s cannot find another place even remotely comparable.
The very first street in the video that leads down to the water. What street is that? It looks to be Spring Street or Union or University or Seneca
Before it was turned into one of the worst cesspools in the country. Pig-sty now.
As a person, who’s from Seattle and goes to downtown Seattle weekly I could say say it looked way nicer back then
I was born in Seattle in 1955. So nice to see the city as it once was.
Very cool. Would be interesting to compare current glacial coverage on Mount Rainier.
I mean, only a quarter of this video was Seattle, but cool video nonetheless.
Hard to believe they let the town go to hell. Sad.
Grew up here in the 50s and seen it slowly decline after gates and bozo infested the area with their stinkin cal. Crowd causing the C.O.L. to go crazy 😡any time these scumball tyrants infest a city u can pretty much kiss it goodbye......still sickning to see a beautiful city like that turned to $--T
I like this video. Wish there were more like this, of other cities, too.
Fly Navy 💙
Lived just across the street from the base from 1958-1967 (my dad worked there). Saw my first color movie there at the base theater. Alameda was just a sleepy little town back then, but such a great place to live
Go Navy! A retired swabbie here. ⚓️
Today the base is a land of ghost
Eleven years after this was shot, BOAC Flight 911 would crash near Japan's Mount Fuji, a mountain much like Mount Ranier, and 113 people died because clear-air turbulence around the mountain broke up the Boeing 707. I wonder if pilots even dare to get this close to the Mount Ranier anymore because of the hard lessons learned in that crash.
Beautiful !!❤ but i wonder , why most or ALL people here are whites ??? It seems strange no seeing someone black or Hispanic here , cause there was those kind of people in California back then as well
Tkank you thank you very much.
Interesting to see Sand Point Naval Airstation still functioning as one.
Hi! Thanks for the upload and for sharing your family's recordings. Can you please tell me how the quality is so good? Is it digitally remastered?

Where was this? St. Augustine?
Great video!!! I was home ported in Alameda from 1970 to 1972. Great base and town!!
Thanks. My parents moved there a few years later. I have some footage somewhere.
This is incredible footage and held up really well. Thanks for taking the time to digitize and upload. I spy Rialto Beach and La Push @ 2:22.
Wow Lake Washington Floating bridge, Tacoma Narrows and Deception Pass all in the same video. Incredible! The best!
AWESOME! Thank you for posting this.
00:40 WOW those tea cups spin fast.
Notice the solid white line dividing the traffic lanes. Plus all the cars built in the late 1940s.
0:21 Here’s Walt Disney
that was very clear video from 1962
