Ep.80 Which is better fenestron or tail rotor
Today I talk about some of the big advantages and disadvantages of a fenestron tail rotor vs. a conventional system.
I also touch on the safety features of the fenestron which can help prevent deaths from occuring from walking into a conventional T/R.

    Love this overview - would like to learn about different rotor systems like Bell or Hiller. Very detailed and interesting is it normal that the R44 tail rotor emits this squealing noise?

  • @lohikarhu734
    @lohikarhu734 28 днів тому

    It looks suspiciously like you could very easily have an DC brushless motor driving that tail rotor, and then have arbitrary "feel" to the pedals, and not have to vary the pitch of the blades, just vary rpm...

    • @a99117733
      @a99117733 28 днів тому

      And then, if the electronics fail, you die. Having them mechanical linked allows continued flight control after power failure

    • @lohikarhu734
      @lohikarhu734 24 дні тому

      Come on! The failure rate on brushless motors is very, very low, with some rated for 100,000 hour life, and it's relatively easy to use redundancy in the drive and power supply... with gears and shafts, there's constant need for lubrication, wear is inevitable, and you end up with a long shaft that's subject to vibration, and probably 2 right angle drives .. but, everyone can have an opinion.

    Well Done! At higher forward speeds, the fenestron can also be quieter (as heard on the ground)
