I get asked a lot behind the scenes, “would you cut this one?”, and I thought it might be fun to make an informative video about some of the when and where of cutting Fairburn agates. I missed a few things like shotgun pattern and cutting stones that appear to be signers, but this video should keep folks from accidentally cutting them good ones.

Scenic Black agates are the “dollar scratch ticket” of South Dakota agate types, for me. They can be easy to find once you know some spots, they are usually fun to cut, and come on.. they just look cool! Every now and then, a big ole whopper is found as well.

@ I made this one right at 24” in length. Any longer for me and it knocks on my legs and can tangle me up when walking. Any shorter than 24” and I get into some knuckle busting spots once a hole gets some depth. Kinda the happy medium for me, but adjust as desired!

@@robertmurphy8863 as far as Black Hills Gold, I’d get in touch with the Black Hills Prospecting Club. Great folks and they have some claims in good areas. I have yet to really do a whole lot in the Black Hills. Last year I joined that club, met some folks and got on a little gold. Best luck and thanks for tuning in!

First, I said I’d like the biggest nugget he’s ever seen. He laughed at me and said “better luck with your second wish”. That’s when I said I wanted some good hiking boots that don’t wear out in a month. He laughed and said “guess I better go get that 237 ounce nugget I’ve been saving for someone”. 🤪
I lived in north pole, alaska for over 30 years and I know Santa Claus personally.you dont believe that so go to north pole city council and say , do you know dee on comments. If he is still there and sees that comment I'm sure he will say yes. He changed his name to Santa Claus and served at least 2 terms there , about 20 miles from Fairbanks...
