    Picture the inside of a canal as being like a very irregular cave, no straight lines... It is cleaned & straighten with linear files & linear filling materials, that are soft enough to remove for retreatment. None of this stuff goes very much in a lateral direction to fill the voids in the areas beside the basically straight filling materials. Plus there can be secondary canals not to be discovered until forensic examination of canal contents.

    I am desperate for some real dental advice!!! :( To anyone that can spare their time and expertise: I had a Root Canal 4 months ago on a “hot tooth” molar #30 that was so sensitive, I couldn’t even be numb the whole way. The procedure itself was traumatic and painful. About 5 weeks ago, the pain came back. I went to my dentist and they suggested it was the crown being too big, they adjusted and the pain came back days later. I went in again, and they adjusted the crown further, insisting it wasn’t an infection. Pain, again, came back days later. Finally they took a CT Scan that showed a canal was missed, so I had a retreatment done later that week. For the first 3 days, I felt absolutely great! Then the pain came back worse than ever in the middle of the night, so bad that I went into the ER for a stronger painkiller. I was desperate for a 2nd opinion, so I went to another dentist that morning and he prescribed me steroids for inflammation, and a narcotic to help me get through the next few nights. The pain significantly subsided over that week, and the “hot tooth” feeling has finally gone away, but my tooth is still sensitive to touch and I definitely can’t chew on it. Today was my 2-week post retreatment check-up, my endodontist at my regular dentist office took another CT Scan and sat with me to show what she looks for. She insists there is zero infection present (she prescribed me antibiotics just in case) and that the root canal looks successful. She said although it may be frustrating to hear, she really wants to save the tooth and to asked me to wait 2-more weeks to see if it “heals”, as retreatment can be more invasive than the initial root canal. At what point do I go for extraction? I’m able to get by the day with regular Advil at this point (before I needed tramadol to get through the night) but shouldn’t I be concerned the tooth is still sensitive to wiggle 2-weeks after treatment? I should add, the man that performed the root canal to begin with did NOT perform the retreatment. I absolutely refused to go to him being he has rough hands and zero sympathy with trying to get me properly numbed. I appreciate anyone that’s taken the time to read this today,

      Did you get a cbct cone beam scan ? I recently had 4 root canals this summer . All upper teeth. None hurt before the procedures and no pain during or after the root canals . The Endodontist sure knew what he was doing as it was a very painless procedure and he used numbing that wore off after 2 hours which was great. I’m not a fan of root canals at all, and had I been able to afford biocompatible implants I would have gone that route . Sorry about your experiences, dental procedures sure do get that heart rate up when going through it

    Root canals are often described as 'saving the tooth' but they do no such thing- the tooth is mostly cored out. I developed a bad infected tooth last year and was told I needed a root canal and a crown ( or extraction. The tooth also has a fracture, it is a back molar)....I went on antibiotics and came very close to going through with it but backed out. The pain subsided and four months rolled by. Went back to dentist for a routine Xray, she said go get a root canal. I went home and coincidentally 3 days later the infection pain came roaring back. I began a regimen of fish antibiotics I had bought online months earlier, just in case. After 10 days all the pain was gone. I ordered a bunch of herbal type stuff for my teeth, rinses etc. I follow a very strict oral hygiene regiment and all the pain and discomfort is gone, this is now six weeks after that last dental visit. I know the chance is still good that I will eventually lose this battle and I will go get the tooth extracted but I am committed to NOT getting a root canal.

    • @Vegasomg
      @Vegasomg Рік тому

      Take a CBCT. If the pain has stopped the infection is still there. You possibly could've gotten a root canal and monitored it but if you've waited so long, the infection is too deep then you have to extract the tooth and it has to be done the way holistic dentists do it. Extract, disinfect with ozone, put PRF and close. You could also check if there are any changes to the way you feel, as you still have an infection in your mouth, to get Clyndamicin or Metronidazole which both fight anaerobic bacteria. That's how I confirmed that all my autoimmune issues are coming from my root canaled teeth. And I tested it twice to make sure so I know if I should extract them.

    My “hot tooth” sensation came back after the root canal. It’s the most sensitive tooth I’ve ever had, so much so that I couldn’t be fully numbed during the procedure either. I felt the very deep pokes and no amount of shots the dentist gave me helped. Now 3 months post op, I’m having migraines, cheek swelling and sharp pains from that tooth. I’ve had several X-rays done since then, but my dentist is insistent that the canals look fine and is convinced it’s the crown not fitting properly. She didn’t detect an infection, but prescribed me antibiotics anyways and drilled down the crown a bit. I’m just supposed to wait and see. Does this sound abnormal?

    I don't think the doctor explained it very well, but the problem with a root canal or an implant is the same - infection. Unlike a root canal, an implant must receive extra care such as extra flossing and using a water pick to to prevent gum disease around the tooth. A root canal tooth only requires the same care as other teeth. Being old, having plenty of other teeth and not being a movie star, I chose to have extraction and doing nothing else.

    It will continue to fail because the root cause isn't being addressed. People need to detox and move the lymphatic system and also get their kidneys to filter. My dentist gave me those two options, but I don't have the expertise to make that decision. All I know is that my tooth is infected all the way to the root and is causing immense pain. I don't see why I'd want to keep a tooth that is infected. It seems like getting it extracted would prevent any future infection. Not to mention, if I got a root canal, I essentially have a dead tooth in my mouth. At that point, saving your real tooth doesn't really seem important. What I do know is that when the dentist told me my options, he seemed more confident about extraction versus a root canal.

    You know it is expensive when they never tell you the price.

    I had a root canal on front tooth and nothing changed pain wise so I guess it failed... So if it failed is tooth still strong that it doesn't need crown?

      You’ll have to see your dentist. My root canal failed on my left bottom molar and had to get it extracted because of abscess

    What’s the point in you talking about a price when none is given…I know every treatment is different But when I watch what is the point (PRICE)

    I have had two root canals in the past three years. Both were upper molars. The dentist did not put a crown on either one. One tooth broke the same evening while eating a hamburger. The other broke the next morning while eating oatmeal. Years ago I had a root canal and the dentist put a temporary crown on the tooth to protect it.

    Nothing in dentistry is failproof. I just wish I could find a competent, meticulous, do no harm or fleecing type of dentist.
