Orientation weeks 2024
Every year in the last two weeks of September, we have orientation for our incoming US students, scholars, and teaching assistants. The first week of orientation welcomed
the US Fulbright students and scholars and took place in the Fulbright Austria office
at the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna. The second week focused
on the incoming US teaching assistants, whose orientation took place in St. Pölten in the east
and in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in the west of Austria.

Interesting question. His comment is specifically about other people. We all can focus on ourselves and our bodies. His point is that we don't need to be concerned with _other people's_ bodies.
One of the highlights of my time as a USTA happened recently with another English teacher I share my office with. As we were talking I mentioned in passing how I never learned how to drive manual and that the default in the U.S. is to drive automatic. He, without hesitation, offered to take me out in his car into an empty parking lot during one of our free lessons and taught me how to drive his car. It is a really special memory for me and is but one example of the close connections I've developed with many of my Austrian colleagues.
Congrats on learning to drive manual!
12/10 would recommend. I live in Imst, a small town in Tirol, and the locals have been astoundingly friendly and welcoming. I love my schools and I love living in Austria!
One of my favorite memories as a USTA is leading an English-language book club in Linz. Through the older members of this club, I learned about Austria’s past as it relates to the many books we’ve read. We also bonded as a club for the past two years, and they made me a sachertorte from scratch for my 25th birthday!
Great memory! What was one of the books that you all read? We've got some ravenous readers in our office. 😆
