Making Tilly Part 4 ~ Sewing on the Legs
Omg I’m going to test this out, seems simple enough! Thank you for posting!!
I hope it works well for you! 🌸😊
@ I did it twice!! The second time I really listened to your comment about not doing the wrap around too tight and it came so much cleaner!! Thank you so much!!
@@jadered9514 That’s great! 🌸
I've tried different ways to attach yarn to doll heads. I think I'll try this way. Thank you
I hope this method works well for you. 😊🌸
Muito linda!!!!! Amei❤❤❤❤
Thank you! 🌸🌸🌸
Where can I buy this ?
This is a good idea.❤ Make it for a baby's first Christmas.
Where do I find the pattern?
There’s a link to the pattern in the description above.
Can these dolls be made with cotton fabric rather than felt?
I've been meaning to try making one in cotton, and your question has reminded me, so I'll test that out and report back shortly! 🌸
@@tillyandpuffin thank you so much! :) Can't wait!
Thank you. That’s the best video I have seen on this subject.
Thank you so much, Pam! 😊🌸
This is my go-to doll hair making video. It’s the best I’ve found to date. Thank you!
This is so helpful! Most other techniques I’ve found have been for short tacked down hair, but this is perfect!
That's great - I'm glad it was helpful!
this has been insanely helpful. I'm a self taught sewist and am making a "fairy princess" doll for my aunt's friends granddaughter who is turning one. A rag doll and simple dress I can make no problem, but yarn hair is a mystery. A lot of tutorials I've seen get way too complicated way too fast for my tastes, but this is simple and straightforward. And thank you for that tip about the gap! I would have never known it could be a problem until it happened and then I'd be stuck trying to figure out what to do and once again wading through tutorials
Thanks so much for your comment ~ I’m glad the video was helpful. Enjoy making your fairy princess. Sounds lovely! 🌸
Awesome, i have 4 dolls that need hair. Will try this
That’s great, good luck with them Lisa! 🧵🌸
@@tillyandpuffin just did 2 of the dolls. I think it went well good enough for the preschool class they are going to
I’m so glad it helped! 👍
Thank you for this clear and quick tutorial! Very useful.
You’re most welcome, Nell! 🌸
Wonderful video. Question: what size chenille needle do you recommend? Thank you again for your great instruction.
The best sizes would be between 18 and 24. I usually use a finer one (around 22 or 24) for embroidery and a larger one (18 or 20) for blanket stitching along an edge with 3 strands of thread. You can read more about chenille needles here; www.needlenthread.com/2014/10/the-needle-you-need.html Thank you! 🌸
I have been looking for directions to make hair for my dolls..(They are about the size of a one yr. old child) Thank you! I will be giving this tutorial a try. This should be fun! Been going to thrift stores and purchasing cable knit sweaters and other fabrications to make over for the clothing. Hope they turn out even half as cute as I think they will!😊
Thanks Sandra. Using unraveled sweaters for the yarn should create lovely wavy and curly hair! Enjoy! 💕🌸
Great video. Very clear instruction just like the original dolls' hair video. I just ordered your book and one of the heart kits. I can hardly wait until it arrives. Thank you again for your sharing your time, talent and inspiration.
Thank you so much ~ I hope you enjoy the projects in the book! 🌸
Great video and I'm not a doll maker. Would have like to see more detail on the stitching you do after wrapping and before cutting. I am a new subscriber now and will search through your site to see if I can find that detail. May you have great success in your future business. Those who give so freely of their time and talent will receive ten-fold in return. Thank you.
Thank you! I've just filmed an additional video showing how to stitch the yarn when it's wrapped on the card. I'll be uploading it soon!

Thanks for explain it so well... and taking your time to actually show us how you did them...❤❤❤❤❤
You’re most welcome ~ thank you so much! 🌸💕
Great video. Thank you.
But how do you stitch it??? I am a beginner, self-taught. I barely know how to sew... And I am trying to make a doll for my daughter. I don't have a sewing machine either so I am doing everything by hand. Please help 🙏
Hi Silverleaf. I also stitch my dolls by hand - you don't need a sewing machine. There are tutorials for making my Tilly dolls on my channel here www.youtube.com/@tillyandpuffin/videos . I'm also planning to make some sewing videos for beginners but in the meantime this channel; ua-cam.com/play/PLe4jP3xshsch6XxUxO6Akg2lEe_V4LDmI.html has some basic hand stitching tutorials. Hope you enjoy making your daughter's doll. 🌸🌸🌸
OMG, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thank you for the easy to follow instructions. I'm off to do my best.
I’m glad it was helpful ~ good luck! 🌸
Lovely❤😊
Show don’t talk so much. It’s trying… not trying to insult. Talk when neccessary❤
Well I think the talking is explanatory. And this gentle British accent so much better than all of those yanking yanks!! 😅
All of her talking has helped me very much. Her teaching style is very pleasant for me❤❤❤
Great video! I love how you do the hair. 😊 I learned lots.
Thank you so much! 🌸
It's a shame you didn't show us how you stitched the hair together when it was on the cardboard. I would have liked to seen that 😢
It was difficult to film that part at the time, but I will try and film an additional video showing the hair being stitched on the cardboard. Thanks for your feedback.

@@miaumagico8517 The finished doll is not for sale. I'm selling the PDF downloadable pattern with instructions, to sew the doll yourself.
I like this idea. I had a thought while watching that I could actually stitch on both sides of the cardboard, then cut it in the middle for when I make shorter hair. I wonder if that would work?? My sister wants a couple of dolls made, and I think she wants short hair for them.
Hi Linda. I don't see why that wouldn't work, and I'm keen to try it myself now!
@@tillyandpuffin well, I'll be interested to see if it works. My sister ended up wanting long hair on her dolls so I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Oh I know! I'll make a doll for myself and try it. 😀
@@theREmissionary Good plan ~ let me know how it turns out! 😊
I love your instruction and such an adorable doll. Thank you.
Thanks so much, Elizabeth! 🌸
You're adorable and thank you for posting this. I was commissioned to make a doll and I hadn't the first idea of how I wanted the hair :) Your video is informative and easy to follow
Thank you Demri ~ I'm so glad it helped!
Extremely helpful thank you
So glad it was helpful ~ thank you!
It was useful but would have appreciated actually seeing you stitching the hair on the cardboard and to the dolls head
Thanks for the feedback, Janette. It’s useful to bear in mind as I create more videos.

That’s great ~ thank you Trish! 🌸
Thank you so much for this lovely tutorial. I am recreating a ragdoll from a video game as a present and I was very nervous when it came time to give her hair. Your video made it very simple and easy for me to understand! You are a fantastic teacher. The doll turned out wonderfully, and I couldn't have done it without your help. Keep up the good work! Bless you 💕💕💕 Update: my friend loves his gift! He styles her hair and made her a hat! 😂🥰
Thanks so much for your lovely comment, Emily. I'm so glad the video helped! 🌸
Does the yarn fray over time
I haven’t had that happen with my dolls. It would depend a bit on what type of yarn you used. If the ends did fray a little over time, you could trim them to neaten them.
just beautiful, so bought the book. thank you x
Thanks so much, Sandy! I hope you enjoy the book. ❤
@@tillyandpuffin I am enjoying the book. lovely cosy things to do in the winter x
thank you so much!!!💛

Loving these...so cute I have a few Christmas felt items like this and I love them so much...definitely will try this....
Thanks Linda! You could make the owls in Christmas colours too. 🎄😊
Love it! Thanks!
Thank you! 🌸
Why didn’t you show us how to stitch the hair on the card as not everyone knows how to do that?. After all, the video is supposed to teach.!
It was difficult to film the actual stitching along the edge of the card, but I explain how to do it at around 1 minute, 50 seconds. I’m a beginner at filming and presenting videos, using basic equipment, and am doing my best while I gain experience!
A little kindness goes a long way. If you weren’t satisfied with this video, there are many more you could have moved on to. I don’t personally know the lady who gives this tutorial, but I found your comment very offensive. Kindness matters.
Geez, calm down. You don’t have to be rude
How rude! She did show this.

I would like to see how you did the face did you use felt for eyes and mouth or is it painted on..
