I play electric and acoustic lead and rhythm guitar, ukulele, lap steel, dobro, and flute, and sing lead and harmony vocals. I also write and publish songs, poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. And teach all of the above.

Simon & Garfunkel Should Have Used Flute on "The Boxer"
In this short video I'm showing you why Simon & Garfunkel should have used Flute on "The Boxer." We need more flute in popular music of all kinds, even bluegrass. Here, I'm playing "The Boxer" instrumental break on flute. I show you the score as well. I added reverb so it would sound like the break on the album Bridge Over Troubled Waters. I did both the acoustic guitar and the flute tracks.
I hope now you agree that they made a mistake not using the flute, a beautiful instrument that's too neglected!!

Play it right! "The Boxer" guitar intro
Переглядів 8121 день тому
Here's how to play "The Boxer" acoustic guitar intro just like the album. Once I show you how you can impress your friends and your audiences. Note: I'm playing "The Boxer" in the key of C. On the album it's in the key of B with the guitar tuned down 1/2 step so it can be played in C chord position. Sorry my voice is raspy - that's the influenza A I'm currently recovering from. @mikejwordsandmu...
This is pretty good for a song I wrote in 1978!

Happy New Year, everyone! I'm playing an original song I played in 1979 in NY. I recently rediscovered my old set list from The Rainy Nighthouse in Queens. I think it's pretty good, though to be honest I just gave the lyrics a refresh. I mean, I hope I'm a better writer than I was then! On this recording I'm using my 1977 Guild D-35 - the same one I originally played it on! It's a powerful guit...

Good morning. It's 8 a.m. and this is what I'm working up - Tim Krekel's "Blues as Blues Can Get" on acoustic. If you've never heard this song, or Tim Krekel, it's time you did! "Blues as Blues Can Get" is so good Delbert McClinton recorded it: ua-cam.com/video/oF36qarU-k0/v-deo.html Krekel was a Louisville, KY native who toured with Jimmy Buffet as his lead guitarist, sold songs to many artist...

Looks, and sounds, like a good time! So nice to hear that Louisville has a thriving Music Scene!
It sure does - many excellent musicians and bands playing all over, lots of jams and open mics as well.

Channeling Joni. Love the way you slammed the door! Now the tree museum would charge $10.50 just to see 'em.
Probably, LOL

I’ve been working on playing double Bass since age 13. No matter what it’s kept me interested in music. I’m 75 now, don’t give up.
For this song: 1) Breedlove 2) Guild 3) Martin. The Breedlove has less bass and is heavier on the mids. The Guild sounds a bit rounder, but the highs are a bit more subdued. The Martin sounds a bit bassier and almost too pleasant for this song. All very nice sounding guitars though.
Thank you. That is very informative. Consensus across my social media is Guild/Breedlove. I was really surprised. I appreciate it so much!
Great song Michael!!
Thanks!
Can you play that guitar motif that Van does a lot? If you know his work you'll know what I'm talking about? It crops up in a lot of the songs, signifying returning to the past, spiritual transcendence, childhood names and places.
I don't know specifically which one you mean...tell me a song and where it is, I'd like to hear it.
@@mikejwordsandmusic There are loads of examples, mostly live but in the studio it does appear all the way through Take Me Back (from Hymns To the Silence) and is the theme of Close Enough For Jazz (from Too Long In Exile), among others. Here's a great performance where he strums the motif as the outro at 4.29: ua-cam.com/video/X2oOCN3QEMo/v-deo.html He plays it on saxophone and sings it, as well, like here (1.26.20): ua-cam.com/video/8MJ7zGS129c/v-deo.html And here you can see the fingering quite well, starting around 2.30 and continuing through the whole "make it real one more time" section: ua-cam.com/video/PUHYnsSkaw4/v-deo.html There are countless examples. He played it all the time through the 80s and 90s, but it never gets old because it's so emotionally charged. I mentioned it because it goes especially well in And The Healing Has Begun - like in this one (starting 6.09): ua-cam.com/video/F7K7PgvGraY/v-deo.html
Great job! Love this song.
Thanks so much!

So excited to see this release! I saw you performing live on my campus during my break by chance and immediately resonated with this song. Somewhere along the way, I started sleep walking through my life and fifty-fifty helped wake me up. It genuinely makes me so happy that I can start listening to song at any moments notice, but I hope to listen to you perform live again one day. Thank you so much for creating such a beautiful song. I'm overjoyed to keep listening to your musical journey.
It's wonderful to hear from you! I remember talking to you after the show, and when I put this up I was hoping you would find it! I'm so glad you did! I know the song means a lot to you. I'm going to be uploading a new version with the full Crazy Chester band, probably today or tomorrow. In the meantime, you can listen to the track here, if you you're interested. michaeljackman.bandcamp.com/track/fifty-fifty Really great that you found me! Stay in touch. I'm so excited I wrote a song that's meaningful.
