For a group that is demanding diversity in the healthcare community, I couldn't help but notice the complete lack of diversity on this panel. This "documentary" was painful to watch. Blaming racism as the cause of higher maternal deaths in pregnancy does a disservice to the women this panel claims to be helping. This type of analysis is low resolution thinking that does not lead to problem solving. There are studies that indicate that this phenomenon is more prolific in American black women. Black women born outside of the United States that emigrate here have far better health outcomes overall. This point is not insignificant since these foreign born black immigrants are living in the same "underserved" communities and exposed to the same "systemic racism". The constant comparison of black women to white women tips the hand of the panel to their identity politics ideology. If they were truly seeking answers, they would compare black women to the Hispanic population. This is another group that lives in the same neighborhoods as blacks, yet experiences far better outcomes in socioeconomics and health. The average black woman in the United States is 5'4" and 185 lbs. This translates to a BMI of 32, which is defined as obese clinically. This is significantly higher than any racial or ethnic group. Why is it beyond the realm of possibility that being obese can exacerbate many other health problems? And for the record, I cannot take seriously, anyone who calls a woman in labor a birthing person.

Quick question, have you watched the documentary in its entirety? Was it because the mention of racisim triggered anger? Have you watched the series with the perception "What if racisim is the root cause of these issues?" At timestamp 14:20, it's mentioned that our (African American Women) BMI is still not a determining factor, and there's plenty of statistics to prove that. Even when African American women get into the desired BMI, have proper education over childbirth and other life choices, access to immediate high quality healthcare, in great financial standing, was raised in healthy lifestyle, they still are at a higher risk of death than any other group of women. This is not some weird, random "phenomenon" due to BMI. This is life and death. The first step to solving ANY problem is to call out the issue. But there are people who are in complete denial of such issues and the roots never gets ripped out (resolved). The racism here is a deeply embedded, multifaceted, hidden systemic racism. There are so many stems, it will take multiple generations to defeat. I know that a lot of the conversation can seem to be a bit fear-mongering at times but the statistics are more frightening. Many hispanic women can not be compared to AAs because many hispanics are white, and/or classify themselves as such. You are incorrect when you state that we live in the same areas. That statement is an assupmtion and very very very wrong. 😢😢We also do not live the same cultural life as them. We are not the same people because you view African Americans comparable to Hispanics. 😮When we close our ears to women's traumatic experiences in healthcare about abuse, neglect, and misinformation, it is a way of communicating 😢😢that this population should be ignored and nothing needs to be done. Basically, "If they'd just be quiet, this will go away," Unfortunately, that's not how life works. The more we ignore, the more the evil cloud over this subject matter will grow continuously, hurting and consuming as much as it desires. Thing is, this subject must cross over racial bars in order for care to improve. No not just AAs are in trouble but United States women in general. If our infant mortality stats are comparable and even worse in some cases to 3rd world countries, there are serious issues that need to be addressed. And maybe the panel lacked diversity because other races may just not want to talk about this because they may not believe it exists...when one starts to do the proper research and is ready for the truth, the truth can no longer be denied.

@@joannaj.5253 Sadly , yes I watched the entire documentary and the ensuing self back patting that followed. It's an hour and a half of my life that I'll never get back. You can pursue this problem with the current victimhood mentality tactics in use, but you are being disingenuous to the women you are supposedly trying to help, all while padding your resumes with "work" to "help" african american women. You are right about one thing in your reply to me. African Americans and Hispanics do have a different culture. Perhaps that's where your team should start to find answers. Start there, instead of playing this blame game. Hispanics in large numbers do in fact live in the same "underserved" communities as blacks in every major city in the U.S. Another population that counters your claim to racism as the problem are foreign born blacks who move to the U.S. There are studies done by institutions of higher education, (Johns Hopkins University) that show that black women who are foreign born that live in the U.S. have a comparable mortality rate during child birth, to white and Hispanic women. Not only are foreign born blacks having better statistical outcomes in the health arena, they also greatly outperform native born blacks (collectively) in the socioeconomic and education arena. Racism definitely exists, and it always will, amongst ALL ethnic groups. But it can't be continually used as a scapegoat. There are too many successful blacks especially immigrant blacks, and a two term black president to keep pushing this narrative. So stop it. You all are supposedly educated. Stop using the activist mentality and approach this problem with some intellect if you want to truly help people.

I was just saying to a friend churches in Australia don't do food anymore. We come., we take a pew and we sit for hours of meaningless empty words. Sure there's still a coffee and a scone but its like the churches have forgotten we are to congregate. I remember when we did things as a church like a family., kids from poorer families (me) didn't miss out on things like boating/fishing and hunting, motorbike riding etc. I regularly helped as a youth the people in my church with my knowledge of mechanics and would fix their cars, now its computing and I help the older generations fix their PC's. Because the church was a family and coming on Sundays was like when you see big wog families come together for a family feast which is representative of the banquet to come filled with celebrations and festivities. This was a part and parcel of living the word and not just speaking it. Now today we have churches that don't congregate, its nothing more than a fickle smile if you pass each other in the street. Christians are too busy trying to gain the affections of the world
