What Will Happen To Dry Pour Slab Concrete in Winter?
Next level stupid.
299.99 for them to get it
I keep my estwing in my van for demo and my expensive lightweight stiletto on my belt.
@@timjd7964 that's a good choice. I wonder which will wear out quicker?
You talked about "ROLLING" the dry pour, but it wasn't in your video and I didn't see a Roller amongst your tools. Were you referring to screeing with the 2x4? Thanks for the video.👍 Can't wrap my head around the haters in the comments... Even after you forewarned them all in minute #1 of your video! Smh.🤙🏼
@mnoot7209 haha thanks! Yes I used a paint roller at the end. Sorey i wasnt able to show it, big time crunch. I built a front step doing dry pour and I believe I used the roller in that video. I will do an update video on this pad as soon as the snow melts lol
@@StationSt Ha! Thanks for lmk... about the Paint Roller _and_ the Spring update. I'm looking forward to it. I just watched another channel of an experienced GC having a major failure trying dry pour for the first time... There was 'delamination' of the top 1" or so and a corner that crumbled when he took off the forms. One variation from your pour is that he applied an artisanal stencil/mold that he depressed into slab about an inch - prior to applying any water. Could be related, but...? I appreciate you getting back to me so soon. Overnight in fact! 🤙🏼
@mnoot7209 yea man I try to get to comments quick. Yea dry pours are for practical use, like mine is just a decent pad to work on my lawn equipment and a flat place to paint things. To try and do a decorative impression on dry powder...interesting but no. The ice is finally thawing off that pad so I'll make a video soon. Thanks for checking it out in advance!
Good point
what is it just a foam block? you got a link? exact name?
@@Brandon-ob8ul it's a Magic Eraser available at any big box or Walmart and grocery stores.
My Estwing has been through the ringer… nothing has phased it. Still use it.
@Strawman333 if only mine had a wooden handle, that's the only thing that could made it better
Use what works for you I like my stiletto because I don’t have an aching wrist at the end of the day, though that’s not entirely any hammers fault, chock that one up to a dirtbike accident when I was younger lol. Plus something about a wood handle hammer feels better in the hand
@TheGooseWatch i started wayyyy back with a 16 oz Stanley with a wooden handle and that feel can't be duplicated. I reviewed a wooden handle titanium hammer , check it out!
How long were the bags kept outside? Was the tarp enough?
@scottvickery2057 the bags survived a couple rain showers but were out just a couple days if memory serves. All but one were fine and I threw the clumpy bag into a slightly deeper spot and was fine.
Martines is a titanium hammer. Steel head. I hit that fucker and scrap the ground etc… ain’t no boss gonna tell me what i can can’t do with my hammer.also have my collection of other hammers as well. Enjoy those from time to time. Great discussion👍🏼
I have my same hammer that I’ve had for 30 years. My estwing has never failed me.
I have that same exact hammer. It has almost the same exact story except it’s bent sideways just a tiny bit but you can’t tell unless you’re looking at it. Love that hammer.
I used a spatula and put the urethane on thick like cake frosting. Turned out terrible
@warrenranstrom4462 yea that doesn't seem like a good idea lol
I have both I use mine for different uses the Estring is pretty much indestructible
16oz steel Hammer vs 16oz TI Hammer TI Hammer is lighter they said🤣
It could be that you aren’t tagging your videos with key search words.
He speaks the truth...
i’m 22 and i’ve use those nails all the time they also make those same nails to go into a nail gun it was also never a debate titanium vibrates much less and is a lot lighter because it’s a tougher material but isn’t as hard as steel hence why steel vibrating so much more titanium causes much less wear and tear on your shoulder and elbow
Very good job ! Do you think it is possible to do a 20 x 24 dry concrete slab for a 2 car garage?? I have never seen it yet but it would be such an easier and cheaper way
@chess-qc3de to me, a slab is a slab, but honestly I just have no clue about supporting vehicles over time. I suppose if you make it a minimum of 4 inches thick and form it properly with rebar, why not. But don't take my word for it
@chess-qc3de it's just one man's humble opinion but I think it's a bad idea to use this method for a 2 car garage if you do a perfect job it will still be only 1/2 the strength of poured concrete if your going to buy the concrete anyway it wouldn't cost mutch more to rent a mixer and do it right so it will support 2 vehicles for the life of the garage take a long well considered look at what your about to do.
I need a 20 x 20 4' patio ... A contractor just quoted me $13,000 in California! These people are absolutely nuts. I told him it was a simple job not a highly engineer driveway.... This is giving me such inspiration. I was getting depressed.. I need to have a slight slope, so that water moves in one direction away from my house. How easy is it to get an angle on this??
@NickC341 i sloped this patio an inch or so away from the building so it's very easy to pitch. Just set up your forms to slope where you want and the concrete will just stay where you want it.
@NickC341 additionally, that is a large dollar amount for a simple slab. This is why "concrete bros" hate dry pour for simple slabs, they don't get the cash!
Ive used many hammers in only 2 years as a framers. Started out with a 30 dollar benchmark hammer. Was 20 oz. Had so much fun with it. It was a solid hammer but bent easily. So i upgraded. Used a fiberglass hammer that wasnt even mine, just found it in our work van. Great hammer. Eventually bought a 19 oz milwaukee hammer. That had a wooden handle. And now i have my stilletto tibone. Now i can tell you its not a problem with the hammer. Its the person using it. I didnt particularly like my benchmark cuase it was heavy. The fiberglass hammer was nice, just a lit of vibration. My milwaukee was amazing and my stilletto is the icing on the cake. Its all about preference. But if your a big man with your big man estwing, have at it my friend. But id personally buy something i like. Or try multiple things. Work smarter not harder
@@BlackFamilyHomestead24 well said, which i eventually did and tried a Big Horn titanium from Amazon and did a video on it. Check it out
@@StationStI will. I'm interested in what you gotta say. Cheers brotha
I'm fixing to buy myself a new framing hammer and looking into if the titanium hammer is worth it. Wouldn't mind spending the money if it has an advantage over a regular hammer. I just wonder if you have to swing it a lot harder to sink nails is my only hold back
@whocares4464 truth be told I felt like I had to swing more versus harder. I used the same blow as I use with my steel hammer and it didn't sink the nail as far. Hope that helps
I find the dry pour intriguing and will need a 12x20 pad at some point for my off grid property workshop. If not for the sawdust and dropped screws, I could just use gravel. Still, it looks like a lot of work. I think it makes sense to try a smaller pad first and get quotes for a wet pour for the larger pour. At least then there's a way to compare the diy labor vs professional pour vs $ spent.
@tiffanym4202 agreed. I tried smaller ones first. Also, the 50 pound bags are much more manageable but there will be more of them. The cost difference was what floored me lol no pun intended.
I have different hammers for different practices and it has helped me a ton. The crew I work with now laughed at me in the beginning, but they have started copying me lately. It pays off to have the right tool for the job
Great video. Wonder if anyone can answer. I am making a 10 x 12 slab for a 400 lb vinyl l shed in Boston. 1. Do I need a crushed stones sub base? 2. If yes, how deep is the crushed stones with 2x 4 frame on it?
@vcfung01 i lived in Rhode Island most of my life so I would say yes on the gravel. 4 inches or so because of frost heaves. Tamp it well.
Doing a video on a muscle on truck? Two strikes against you in UA-cam land (toxic masculinity conjuncture). Doing manly things goes against their policy. If you would have been wearing a purple wig with a sports bra showing a Prius getting a rainbow flag license plate holder, they would have celebrated.

just old grumpy boomer with always a bad take.
@@jesusiscoming6843 yet you still took the time to comment, so thank you!
How do I know that hammer wasn’t used hard?? It still says “Estwing” in yellow on the handle. That light tampo is the first thing to wear off after a few weeks of abuse. 😅
@@jonthebuildingmanager2896 i hear this BS every now and again, like what the hell are you guys doing with your hammers? It was in a sleeve on my belt and not in a ring for starters. And I also take care of my tools.
@ I love my hammer, but it works. 6 days a week. And hard. Beautiful hammers though…mine gets abused I’ll admit. It’s not fancy, but they never quit
@ we work with them🤷🏻♂️. Even just sliding it across a piece of plywood a few times will do it. But even if you do abuse them…they take it 😎
It looks like it could be a great meat tenderizer.
@@1000BASTE lol head is as fat as one
If you use one most days, titanium pays for itself in elbow surgery. That alone is enough of a reason…

Another critique of a titanium hammer...without a titanium hammer. Not saying you're wrong, but you have to compare.

Quick question, What is the white thing?
@dondavotv magic eraser
The way I see it is the push has already been there for a long time for hybrid alu and titanium hammers that are lite and have hard faces forge welded on or inserted pressed in.. They just have not been able to keep up with the demand for higher quality tools. The carpenters hammer debacle with titanium is just the beggening.
@@andystoolbox agreed 100%
It's called an ardox nail....
@@chrisharvey1091 never knew, thanks
I've had my stiletto 140z titanium hammer for ten years and it kicks ass.
My Boss Titanium hammer is way more confortable than that. That Estwing is good for demolition only
@cocovasquez1 it's good for a whole lot more but I did make a video on my new titanium hammer with a wood handle. Check it out!
That's a piece of the sway bar.
@@szaw4452 yup split then broke
Well, I'm a 3rd generation carpenter. My grandfather and father both suffered from nerve and tendon damage in their strong arm, after 15 years, I was on the same track. I switched to titanium, and much of the pain went away from my wrist and elbow. I've tried probably 20 hammers over the years, and Estwing was the absolute worse one I tried. The felt recoil was terrible and balance was as bad. I had to work way too hard to control it. My favorite steel hammer was Dead On, but I rarely pick it up anymore. All of my hammers are now Titanium. Yeah, they're expensive, but my body is worth more than a hundred bucks.
@@556blackwater many people say the same thing. I've bought a new titanium hammer and made a video on it telling what I think. Check it out
Thats right..its all BS...if you can't swing a 19-22oz hammer you don't go and get a comparable titanium...you simply go get a lighter steel hammer.
It look like a hudson bay pattern the head of the axe .
When i see this hammer , i see a weapon of destruction Hehe I think you can split little wood piece with the neck of the hammer hehe
The engineer at OK State U showed the more water that is poured over the dry concrete the harder it will set but still will be 1/2 of the compression strength, compared to wet pour. About 3,000 lbs. for the wet pour and 1.500 lbs. for the dry pour.
@vincentnix582 yes true, takes a lot of water the thicker it is.
Titanium hammers are symptoms of latent homosexuality and all the satanic deviance that comes with it. I still swing a Vaughn 32ounce hammer with a wood handle.
Calm down mate
@@FirstnameLastname-vy2dg made that video months ago. Mate.
Good old estwing
Used an Estwing for years……til I started having some discomfort in my wrist…..switched to titanium and wrist discomfort disappeared. I think the solid steel handle with the stiff grip, creates a shock through the grip to the wrist. If you don’t do enough work to have a problem keep the Estwing.
