How To - Mitered Corner Binding
After the piecing and the quilting comes the final step: binding, closing up the edges of your new quilt. In this video I'll show you the mitered binding, which creates neat folded corners. This is a very popular binding and is good for all quilting levels.

How To - Book Cover
Переглядів 1523 роки тому
Join me as I show how I made a cover for my bullet journal. And stay to the end for a cameo appearance from a furry guest! You could make it a stash buster by using different materials for the pockets, and even sewing together smaller pieces to make the cover. Making crafts like this can be a great way to practice hand sewing. If you would rather use a machine, the overcast stitch is a good mac...

    Can you adjust this to make it a nice size couch throw?

    • @LadyAstriannaSewing
      @LadyAstriannaSewing 2 роки тому

      Absolutely! Once you know how big you want the throw to be, you can either add more strips to make a more complex image or make the strips wider to accommodate the size. And of course make the strips longer. Couch throws (or lap quilts) tend to be about 40 to 45 inches square, so if you're using quilting cotton you would need to make strips that are the full width of the fabric. I hope this helps, and good luck with your quilting adventure!

      @@LadyAstriannaSewing can I ask one more question? The one I want to make is based off of a picture of a farm field, so it has a fence in it. Just like two horizontal white lines going the length of it in the middle and then posts, but, (gosh I wish I could show you the picture) I’m wondering how I could do this without appliqué. The rest of it is pretty straightforward with just sky and various greens.

    What if you don't want the raw edge? How would you sew it?

    • @LadyAstriannaSewing
      @LadyAstriannaSewing 2 роки тому

      Before sewing the strips together, fold the raw edge over to the back of the strip, 1/8" to 1/4", and sew it down. Or, if you're comfortable, you can just press them down very well, and be sure to catch this "seam allowance" when you sew the strips together. You will need to clip the seam allowance a few times in the soft curves to get them to lay flat. For the sharper mountains, clip once in each upward and downward peak. It can be a little tricky. I hope this helps!

    Also not sorry for introducing you to washi tape! Ask me sometime about my lack of notes involving handles..... Notes *where you see them before they become important and not at the very end of the instructions* be good.
