I got one of these to review for Amazon Vine, and realising that it's junk, am researching the genuine ones. It appears to have carbon embedded in the pleats, but there's no sound when you shake it because the carbon isn't loose, and I doubt it's effective at all. Presumably the genuine ones have an actual layer with loose granules for a good surface area?

@@makers_lab you'd hope so for the genuine filters as there not cheap.. I ended up going with a winix unit in the end but be interesting see what you find out about the genuine philips one

The filter does have carbon. The HEPA filter has an Active Carbon Layer. The surface area of the ‘active carbon layer’ is as large as 31 American football fields.

The plastic bag of the filter probably got caught at the catch of the cover. The only way is to keep turning the cover until the bag gives way. Don't know of any other way to release it. All the best!

Open the water tank. At the bottom left, you'll see a blue styrofoam like material which is the float. It lets the unit know of the water level. Check that the float is install correctly. Thats about it. No reset is required for the water level. Just the float that tells the unit if the water level is low.

The thing about sensors on an air purifier is that it isn't always accurate. Another thing to note is that it may not be a particulate sensor but a VOC sensor. Is it because you are running the air purifier on auto mode and wanting it to run high when there is dust? Well, we would recommend to run it at least at med fan speed if not high speed. At low speed, its not as efficient noting that the tech specs on air purifiers are normally rated at its highest fan speed. Another thing you can do is to get an external sensor. These things are rather affordable and can be easily found online. You can get an rough reading of the PM2.5 at least to know if your air purifier is working. Hopefully this helps.

@@biensantos1132 if it’s not reachable, don’t try. You don’t want to break something or get something stuck in the air purifier. What you can try is to use compressed air or use a blower to clean it. That’s about it. We do not usually clean the fan area . If the air purifier is not used for a period of time, you can consider bagging it up to prevent dust from forming within the air purifier. We use our air purifiers and the Xiaomi on a daily basis and never had to care about the fan area getting dusty .

Hi Raajika, like you, many others will think that after you have replaced the filter , the change filter light will go off. From our experience with different models of air purifiers, we have not come across an air purifier smart enough to detect a used filter from a new filter. This will take a lot of sensors and many hours of testing to determine when a filter is dirty enough to be replaced. The simple way that manufactures use is by using a timer. As such, the air purifier does not know how dirty the filter is. It only knows when to inform you to replace the filter when the time is due. Ok, the simple answer to your question is you have to manually reset the reminder whenever you replace the filter. Press and hold on the reset button and the timer will reset. For HEPAPAPA, we don't even bother resetting it anymore because we go by these signs as to when to replace a filter. 1. Filter turns to a darker colour. 2. Musky Smell. 3. Wind from blower feels weak or stuck. You might be running the air purifier in a very dirty environment but it still will only remind you to replace it when the set interval is up. Replace it based on the 3 signs above and you're good to go!

Depending on your location, you can easily find them on online marketplaces. Popular brands are Xiaomi, QingPing ...

There is no maintenance required on the filter. If it has turned soggy, deteriorated or has algae growing on it, then its time to replace it. For the humidifier housing and water tank, try cleaning it with soap and water to remove the scale and calcium build-up. As for the water to be used in the water tank, try using distilled water if possible as it will reduce the amount of calcium build-up and also you won't know what you are breathing in from the humidifier if its from normal tap water.

Hi and thank you for your question. We do not recommend opening the unit to clean it. What we do here is we have an industrial blower. Remove all the filters in the air purifier, flip the air purifier upside down and blow into the air outlet. This should dislodge any large dust balls that had accumulated over time. You can also blow into the air inlet where the fan motor is located. You can refer to our latest video where we used our blower to clean out a dirty Panasonic air purifier. Time to replace it. Fan motor is the heart of the unit. Regular maintenance should be done to prevent dust from building up in the fan motor.
