Many, if not most, of us that are gay hate having to come out. There is no automatic right of acceptance and even in the most liberal and accepting of families there is often the fear of rejection and humiliation. Coming out is often the biggest and most scariest thing a child will ever do. Each coming out is different for each person and it’s all down to the adults reaction that can turn the trauma and drama the child is experiencing into one of joy and happiness. Acceptance is the key. Loving them, no matter what, is a family’s duty. It’s galling that straight people don’t have to go through this heartbreaking scenario.

There are lots of coming out videos, which gives the impression to young gay guys it is like rite of passage to happiness, or some sort of obligation they need to fire fill. Don't fall for any of that crap... your sexuality is totally your own business. And never put yourself in harms way by sharing your sexuality with people who will not support you. I'm not saying don't come out publically if your gay, but make sure you do it totally on your terms for your benifit! I support coming out in fact because I know how lonely and confusing it can be to be hearing the heterosexual guilt trip all your life as a child and I realise seeing your normal and not alone is important, but only come out if your in a safe place in your life to do so. Just remember gay relationships are far superior to a life of endless compromises being hitched to the opposite sex. Seasons Greetings to all.
