Don't forget the main factor for expensive boots: the ability to be resoled. That way you can have the uppers form to your feet for many years and pay a fraction of the value to resole them when needed. And if a company is charging $500 for a pair of boots that are cemented (like Crispi) are hucksters.
Great point. Can be hard to find a place to resole boots though. New castle farmers market does it. Crispis are cemented?
From what I can gather yes. They don't explicitly state storm or Goodyear or handsewn on their construction process. That might not be true of all models but from a cursory glance at a few it would seem they cement. Cemented boots are fine, but there's a reason that Chinese sneakers use it too. They capitalizing on the fact that their marketing is good and it's expensive and "made in Italy" so people just assume they're great because they don't know any better. Cemented shoes have pros and cons but they shouldn't be on a pair of $400 boots unless they are rain boots or the like. And anytime a shoe company brags about "made in Italy" is a red flag too, due to it being synonymous with quality shoes, even tho they generally outsource their materials from cheaply sweated markets in the third world, and then pay Giuseppe to glue them together so they can cheat foreign trade regulations on where something is made. Also Italy is the China of shoes to an extent because they can be manufactured there for cheap. So unless your shoes are handmade they are not worth $400 bucks from Italy. And Crispi is banking on all their "technology" about their boots. Well it doesn't matter because EVERY waterproof membrane will fail at some poin. While plain leather boots with grease will be just a waterproof and can be made so indefinitely as long as your grease them every so often. The main conclusion is that those boots are solving problems that never existed and making money hand over fist off of gullible idiots who can't be bothered to do some research and are easily suckered from marketing. @@doublelungarchery7493
Well said sir 👏
I’ve sworn by rocky boots for years they have served well I can justify the price on a pair of crispy boots either
Right on. Some of these brands are outrageously expensive for no good reason.
This is by far the best hunting podcast around, great banter and legitimately useful tips for real hunting. God bless you fellas - from a New Zealand hunter
Appreciate it! New Zealand sounds like a hell of a place to hunt! What kind of game do you pursue there?
@@doublelungarchery7493 Reds, Sika and Fallow deer, no limits, year round. But we have a lot of hunting pressure because of that, which makes for some extremely rewarding kills when you do get them though. Been enjoying your Sika content - pretty new to me, so your tips have been real helpful man. Doing my best to get my first Sika buck - but still getting whistled at for now - I'll get one down soon enough. Keep up the great content, entertaining and useful as hell, and makes those long drives to the mountains fly by.
Hell yeah brother! Sika are incredible animals. Hard to hunt. How big are the ones in New Zealand?
@@doublelungarchery7493 Pretty big man, further in the bush you go the bigger they get. The ones further from the campsites are more curious and less spooked. Makes for some real fun and interesting hunts. Do you guys always hunt from treestands? we bushstalk here, which for a lot of us means hunting in socks or zero-drop shoes and fleece gear for sound, and pretty low rates of success. Also handheld thermal monoculars are legal on public land too, is that a thing in the states? Really interesting to see the differences in hunting styles
I had the same valley issue with my Ethos. They come set at 90percent so no holding weight. I dropped mine to 80 and the valley is gone. There is no dump anymore and I’m at 29”draw 76lbs.
Yup, I actually did the same thing a few weeks ago. Made a huge difference. How ya liking the ethos overall?
Love the bow. You guys were spot on with the other bows also. The Mathew’s was just gritty. Hoyt pulled like butter but felt imbalanced for me and the PSE had horrid hand shock. I have about 2k arrows now on the ethos and is feel the same as the day I test fired. Can’t wait till October deer season here in Michigan.
Hell yeah man our season starts September 6th here in Maryland. Got a lot more to get ready, but I'll be looking forward to letting the air out of a whitetail with the ethos!
Ryan and no pants Winnie-the-Pooh 😂
I think it would be cool to hear what y’all’s arrow build for hunting is like ; grain, length, components etc. and the experiences you both had with older setups. I love y’all’s podcast, it’s really relatable!
Thanks for listening! We'll definitely touch on that in the next pod or two as we will begin building our arrows for this season.
GFY! Wondering why that was in the comments earlier lol
🤜🤛
Lol stumbled upon this… I’m loving my Ethos! That was a fun night
Hell yeah, man it is a great bow!

Yeah man its a tragedy for sure. All good on our end. We try to stay as far from the city as possible!
The best way to imitate a hind is to use an elk mew call.
Any specific call brand's you'd recommend?
Your math ain't quite mathing my dear. 😅 you're marrying an accountant... 260 a piece, two stabilizers, not quite 700. 😂❤️
Yeahhhh well if you buy the rear stabilizer mount that's 200 it's over 700. So in your face!
😂😂😂
Congrats on the bow and the engagement!
I enjoy listening to you guys sharing your sika deer hunting experiences. I had a good year hunting sika at Assateague Island. I got a stag during Muzzleloader season in October and another stag during firearms season using a muzzleloader. Hunted them almost every weekend in January but never had one in archery range. Never hunted Blackwater Refuge or any other private lands near Blackwater. Will definitely give those places a try. Did not hunt whitetail deer at all this year, only Sika deer. I caught the Sika deer fever and couldn’t shake it.
Right on man thanks for listening! And congratulations on a good season. We haven't hunted Assy much but it's on our radar. Any advice?
half black can confirm hennesey is the hood drink of choice, everyone has a lil crown royal bag to keep all kinds of illicit things we need, and laphroaig is Top Quality scotch if you like smokey drinks reminds me of the woods. good sipper. had a friend bring me back a rare cask scotch from Cadenheads in scotland amazing. and New Hampshire has The Presidential Mountain Range way bigger than anything in Vermont, people die every year on mount Washington fucking around. The buildings on Mount wash are chained down because the winds can get so crazy. highest recorded wind was on top of mount washington in New Hampshire, biggest mountains in New England.
Thanks for the info bro! Ill keep an eye out for some laphroaig. And ill definitely look intonsome ski resorts in new hampshire. Soinds like my kind of skiing!
The crown bags are a classic. Ive used em a time or two myself!

Congrats on this year’s hunting season guys! So y’all are planning on going to an elk hunt out in Colorado or at least out west in fall of 2026? If so that’s when me and a couple of brothers are planning to go. I will be putting in points in CO. So when time it’s a unit that’s not on public. If interested would y’all be up for joining or like to plan something?
We were actually hoping to do 2025. But good luck to yall! How do the point units work in colorado?
@@doublelungarchery7493 some draw units surprisingly don’t require any points to draw out, some 2 points and some up to 25 points depending how “high quality” or secluded the unit is. But it is a step up from OTC compared to a 2 or 3 point unit.

WTF'/???
I hunt in Kerville Texas and saw Sika. Had no idea what I was looking at so I sent a picture to my friend and he told me what it was. I shot my first stag that day. Now it’s November 26, 2023 a year later and I am sitting in my stand as I am typing this waiting for my friend to come get me and my second and much bigger stag. What an awesome hunt. I would like to know how to age a Sika stag. Good luck to you guys.
Wow, that's awesome. Is their a huntable population of sika there? Typically here a a taxidermist can age them by tooth decay, or skull size im not sure how exactly. Congratulations on the stag!
@@doublelungarchery7493 there seems to be a good population.
Uncle Jon Jamison said hi
Love this idea. I even thought about adding some shoulder padding to slide over the bottom straps for extra comfort on the loins haha
Hell yeah, turn that xop into a lay z boy!
I could see movement in the core bedding they probably feel on edge when the wind is moving fast and swirling but not just roaming around wood lots
Thats a great estimate. I could see that being the case.
How hungry do you have to be to eat yourself 😭😭😭💀
it's rabid, its sad how it can see everything but can't control itself.
Love the Flag!
Sika are definitely grazers I see them on different grasses all the time. And have seen the Stags just randomly drop and wallow and put cam on the spot never have seen them hit it a second time but still roaming the same area. So you guys are right about the difference between a W. tail scrap and a Sika wallow! Good stuff boys!
Hell yeah, man thanks for the insight! They requure some different tactics for sure
Where you guys from? Great Video! "Majestic and elusive" is what I say all the time! Love to hunt our Long Island free range Sika!! Yes Long Island NY!! ua-cam.com/channels/GPL-7SkNEZ9HKvFvx4SOdA.html Reply
What Asio gear do you have
The Mid-Season Sherpa lined jacket and sherpa lined pants. Worked great for low 40s high 30s with very little underneath. Could definitely go colder with adequate base layers
Thanks for the quick reply and info !!!
I normally walk in in grey light is what I call it and hunt till about 10:30-11am but if there’s more than 3-4 cars I won’t walk in. Dorchester native lol
Is there a reason you wait till then?
@@doublelungarchery7493 little fear of darkness lol but mainly because I’ve fallen in multiple holes out there and just don’t like only having a headlight. The twilight and walking slow I’ve killed 3 doing it.
If a deer got away after my first shot and someone else put it down. I’d probably say congratulations and let the person have it. I just like being in the woods and get another chance to get one.
Great perspective. It's about the pursuit, not just the outcome!
Congratulations son and Seth
Any luck boys? Just got to sikaville myself for the week.
