For anyone worries about this just get the liquid iron industries brackets which are 0" drop so they don't produce all that leverage. There held in with like 7 bolts each side and you can weld em in. I've got almost 100k miles of beating the piss out of it and there chillen
@@maxjordan2625 just glanced at their website and don’t see them. Also CavFab makes something similar that uses the hitch bolts and looks like a great solution. But does drop the mounting point a bit.
At 9:21 I noticed the angle of your shackle. Maybe move it further back on your adjustments. When it compresses the spring it will get longer. It will have nowhere to go the way it is there.
@@audelizmejias played with the further rearward mounting hole today and it gives the leafs a good chance of inverting, so not a reliable solution. They currently only sit at about 40 degrees is should provide plenty of expansion for the leafs until I hit the bump stop
@ i see……. Great job btw. Come out great.
Let’s go jump it
@@Littletruckbigworld seems like the move
Nice work Jake. Looks like those mounts will be real strong. Have a great year!
@@matchedbook1 Appreciate Ya!
I bought a set of 4" Old Man Emu leaf springs for my 90 XJ 5 or 6 years ago. I have wheeled it a fair amount, but nothing crazy. Probably 10k miles or so on the jeep in that time - it's not my daily. Leafs are still in great shape. Ride great. Flex good. Will haul some weight. You did a nice job on those shackle boxes. I hope to ditch the leaf springs for a four link before my shackle boxes tear out.
@@benjaminreinhardt259 I’ve been wanting to do a 4 link, maybe trailing arms. But can’t justify the expense right now. Leafs are just too cheap and easy
This is good to know and look out for. I just received my rough country shackle relocation brackets lol
@@Anthony_Adventures for street driving or light off-road they should be fine. But heavy off-road they will start to damage some things
@ ya I plan to get out on the trails more then 3 times this coming year so I guess we’ll see. Worse case when it pulls apart it’s time for new shackle boxes or 4 link 😂
@ but hardest trail right now that my Jeep might see would be like spring creek possibly if I can get some other tires since I am only on 31s right now
Check out the cavfab shackle relocation. Way better option
awesome stuff! Thanks
Awesome video! Thanks for all the info!
Thanks! I’m glad you found it helpful.
pretty interesting assessment
Can’t wait to get out and break something else
Your neighbor for the win again...😁
Thanks. Interesting video. Looking forward to more this year!
Thank for sharing. What type of material did you use for this project?
1.75” by .120 wall HREW tube
Nice recovery. Im looking for a XJ to buy before spring. Might see you out on the trails im in that area alot.
🤟🏼
Donde puedo comprar el nudillo como el que instalaste?
Reid racing, Offroad design, or find an early flat top knuckle and send it to a machine shop.
Hey I know this is an older video but I need to do this on the donor AW4 in my YJ.. how hard was it to pry off? I have a new one in case I break it... No Reverse lights are the issue. I am working on floors AND RAILS ON , MY xj TOO... i SUBSCRIBED!
Mine was not hard to remove at all, just need to be delicate enough not to break anything
Show the bumper and less of your face
They have pics on the website lol
So what do you think about using the cheapest harbor freight wire welder vs stick welding? As a beginner.
@@jreg0028 by cheapest welder if you are referring to a flux core, I might say do stick. Could probably get some nicer welds. But you can get a used mig machine for not too expensive
@machinesinc What size lift do you have? I am running a 4.5 in 3-link now with 33x10.5s. Thinking I could probably do similar cutting and proper bumpstopping and clear 35s.
I think mine sits around 8”
Up at midnight because of jet lag watching some of your older stuff I haven't seen before. Your method for squaring the crossmember is right on time. I am installing a long arm setup on my jeep now and hadn't thought of that. I was measuring off of the wheel wells to center the axle in the wheel opening, but that makes sense to make sure the axles are parallel to each other. Thanks for that.
Glad the little tips can help!
Love it❤
Thanks!
Lay your sheet metal on the lawn and drive over it
I’d be concerned of damaging the material with over bending or deforming
What type swaybar do you have? Do you like it? What sway bar setup would you recommend for a low lift with 1.75" lift in front, 2.25" in rear?
It’s an Antirock. Love it for off-road. But if yours is primarily on road a factory sway bar with disconnects might be a good option as well
Do you have a link to the spec you used when designing the cage?
It’s not 100% to spec, but this is a good reference kingofthehammers.com/competitors/rulebook/
What pipe bender is that? And where do you get your tube steel?
It’s a rouge fab tubing bender. I buy all my steel from local supply yards
Yeah.... You look pretty... With those earrings... You're outta here.
?
what axles are you running on your jeep? I'm considering getting an xj to build with big tires, I'm just trying to figure out if d30 front w/ d44 rear will be a beefy enough axle to handle big tires once built, or if I should just not care about axles and upgrade them to better ones
I have Dana 44s front and rear. A low pinion 44 like I have in the front is only marginally better than a Dana 30. But that being said if yours are going to invest money in upgrading/building an axle I would recommend starting with something other than the 30. You will spend the same amount of money and have a way nicer setup
I'm looking at doing the same thing but with a F150 dana 44 in my LJ
High pinion 44 out of the ford is 100% a better option
Been thinking about buying this bumper for my xj and badlands 12000. How has it held up to winching?
For the price not a bad bumper. Got used plenty. But did bend it a bit hitting rocks, have since sold it and built a new one
What was the Amazon linkage you used?
a.co/d/4diPcaf
Wondering how those hinges have held up, ever think about a piano hinge?
I’ve broken one. Definitely not a fan of them, but they are the best fitting option I’ve seen so far. Piano hinge might not be a terrible idea.
I just went to put the same Amazon linkage kit on mine and was like.... Wtf? This don't match up..... Then I found your video and now I know why 😂 Thanks brother.
On most vehicles the NSS also operated the reverse lamps.
👍🏼
amazing video brother. great fabrication. Did you charge for this job?? if so how much because my buddy wants me to fab one of these up for him. i will be tig welding it together
I did charge for this job. Tig welding will take you drastically longer to complete. My video shows the hours it takes, now come up with your hourly rate!
Lovely ❤❤❤ van
Thanks!
Great job! I had a 66 Ford Falcon van and enjoyed watching your vans story.
Glad you enjoyed it!
oh man... i was all excited to bang this thing out in a weekend LOL. I appreciate the reality check. Just curious, did you relocate the backup camera?
Yes my buddy had plans to relocate onto the swingout.
Fix it properly, replace the portion of rusted floor that needs attention, likewise to all rusted areas, there's no shortcuts ,a job worth doing is a job worth doing well
Already done in a later video!
For the railroad 😂
John Henry over here 😂
I am doing a 70 G20. I would like to get some more information on your 4x4 conversion if you would share. I have a Red-E-Kamp conversion that is straight as an arrow and deserves to be on the road. Thanks. Mr.S
My video about setting up dual horns shows some more details on the 4x4 setup
@@machinesinc Thank you. I will check it out.
The first van looks like a Greenbrier van with a rear engine.
Yep
Didn't show anything about it that makes it over landing cool. Flashy van, hot motor and an awning? No interior, no cabinets no bed....
Can still drive over land with no bed! Lol
@machinesinc that just makes it a flashy 4wd to show off. 🙄
I watched a few other videos but yours is the best.. thank you
Glad it helped!
Nice build and great history.
Thanks!
I had the same van back in the 70's. My friends and I called her the crippler due to the fact if you get in a head on even if your legs will get mangled even if your doing like 30 miles an hour. Looks good and drive safe.
Not gunna lie I think about this all the time haha
I haven’t even seen inside yet and I love it!
Thanks!
Sweet video man. Very clear and I love the product too, old one shot the bed half way up a cliff lol
Thanks!
Awesome 4X4 😀👍❤
Thanks 👍
I bought Amend 2 mags a few years ago. Out of 6 mags, about 3 have issues with the feed lips. Like, they have hairline cracks allowing rounds to just fall out. They're outta commission now.
lol how’d we get to guns? I’ll avoid the Amend 2 mags 😂
@machinesinc Idk. Lol. Apparently I commented on wrong post. That's what happens when I multi-task. 🤣
