    how well does the active tracking work while skiing

    • @badboy-bob5255

      There is more difference between mini 3 pro (I did crash last year ) and the DJI MINI 4 pro. The 4 pro is way outplaying the 3 if it comes to active tracking. Keeps object mucht better into focus/center/track. The track detection sensor seems to be improved a lot. I have a year off work for skiing a full season in Les trois vallees . I will make some recordings and publish the findings (no way sponsored. Just love to share views ). Stay tuned !

    You use controller with telephone ??

      hi, i used one year ago (this video, december 2023) the mini 3 with telephone. This year (december 2024) i used a new mini 4 with remote controler from DJI (not with telephone). My advice; the additional cost for a DJI RC as separate remote controller (in stead of using the remote-with-phone) pays off. Using the telephone makes thing complicated un less user friendly/fast; the screen of the separate remote is much better, you have no troubles of your telephone going low on battery fast, ... Especially on ski auto-tracking-yourself with DJI you don't want the troubles with the remote-cable disconnection your telephone during flight/ski:)

    Great video! I tried the same thing having the M3P follow me skiing with Active Track. It lost me a couple of times but the biggest issue I had was buttons on the remote getting pushed in my backpack when I hit a mogul or jump which caused the recording to stop/start. Need to look at ways to lockout the remote in a better storage bag or by disabling the buttons: ua-cam.com/video/j2Bu36oSg4A/v-deo.html

      I think I'll remove the sticks from the controller and then put it in my jacket. Not sure about the buttons though!

      i bought a cover for the remote control, so the sticks can stay on the remote while skiing. the cover protects the sticks from moving in the backpack. This is a simple, cheap and good solution (i also bouth the mini 4 now with the separate remote controller. i do not use the controller with mobilie phone and also that is an improvement i noticed).

    Is it possible to adjust how fast it turns, by putting in in cine mode or something like that? I wouldnt want the drone to turn left and right on each of my turns

    • @badboy-bob5255
      @badboy-bob5255 Рік тому

      You can (and should) evaluate and adapt the sensitivity of your Joystick Sticks. This you can do for each mode (Cine/normal/sport) in your RC configuration (under “Control”).

      @@badboy-bob5255 Sure but I dont use the joysticks while the drone is auto following me. What I was aksing was if these settings also apply to the automatic movement of the drone when following. Or in other words whether you found a way to stop the drone from shifting left and right every time you made a turn on skis.

    • @badboy-bob5255
      @badboy-bob5255 Рік тому

      @@simon.annies indeed, the drone goes left and right if you make turns (even small turns on ski; the drone will do so...:( ). That a very good thing to mention. I don't think there is a possibility to avoid that. I tried "parallel" mode, then the drone flies next to you and if you don't ski to fast, it will not have the left-right movement. That 's for me the next thing to try: find a power line where there is room left or right without obsacles and put it in AT Parellel mode. For sure; for the left / right of the drone there is no difference in the modes Cine/normal/sport: the mini in active track mode is not acting different in those modes. the Active track does overrule the difference in those 3 modes. You could: start the AT with your drone some distance behind you, do the recording in 4K and remove the "left right" of the drone in post production (Davinci Resolve or others). When recorded in 4K it's perfectly fine to crop the recording (for leveling out the left-right of the drone).

      @@badboy-bob5255 Thanks for the informations, and you are right, there are good options in post production too. One more question: Is it possible to disable the controller and store it in the packpack or jacket while filming in auto tracking? because as I understood, the drone will still ract to controller input at least in parallel mode, right? How do you avoid accidentally moving the drone in the wrong direction because a joystick gets tilted while the controller is in your pocket?

    • @badboy-bob5255
      @badboy-bob5255 Рік тому

      I don't think you can disable the controller. What you can do is temporary removing the joystick before putting the RC in you bag. (Moving the joystick during AT in flight does not harm a lot - the mini will stick to the skier from AT). Doing this solo (filming you own off pist run with AT, not having someone else around operating the RC)... it is challanging in it can limit you to an easy run. looking forward to see others doing same test!

      Hello, I had no problems, but some findings / tips: -1- Wear strongly contrasting ski clothing (no white clothing, you will lose the active job in a snowy landscape). -2- The mini will perform best when flying behind the skier. You could try Active Track in parallel mode, but then you definitely need space for it (a WIDE ski slope, no trees on one side, …). -3- Unfortunately, when skiing above 45 km/h (27 mph), the mini cannot keep up with the pace. -4- Increase the maximum distance from the starting point before starting (you don't want your mini to stop tracking when it reaches the maximum distance while skiing :)). -5- I was alone in the snow. Following a 2nd person behind the drone gives you more room to experiment: less stress of losing the drone :). -6- Skiing with the remote control in your hand is not very comfortable. Tracking and filming another skier without Active Track on yourself is a lot easier.

    Hello! I want to buy the same drone (mini3pro) to do the exact same thing (ski tracking) almost at the same spot (7-laux). Are you using any CPL filter on the lense of the Mini3Pro or did you use any correction software to attenuate the snow (whiteness effect)? Thanks!

    • @badboy-bob5255
      @badboy-bob5255 Рік тому

      Hi Eric. I did not use a CPL filter (you could use it to boost saturation, but i,did not). Yes, I used a (strong) ND filters. Why? For getting Motion Blur (but if you don't fly low that's less a reason). The ND filter allows you to LOWER The shooter speed (Lower = more motion blur = more realistic -> better!) The scenery is white and Bright most of the time. The ND filter is a must-use sun glass in those conditions :). Did I do corrections? Yes I use The free version of Davinci Resolve t do some Basic Color correction and color grading.
