quoll and possum battle
The spotted tail quoll (also known as the Tiger quoll) is the largest marsupial carnivore in mainland Australia. Quolls were once abundant all over eastern Australia. But now they thrive mainly in National Parks and in reserves such as Jenolan Caves, where wildlife is conserved.

At Jenolan Caves, The Temple of Baal Cave is renowned for its beauty and spectacular features. Although this cave is often used as a wedding venue, it is not a 'temple'. Rather, the unusual name was inspired by limestone formations which reminded early cave explorers of the Biblical story of 'Elijah and the Prophets of Baal'. I think quolls are more like wildcats, with goannas being more like terrestrial mustelids. Feral cats compete with quolls, while feral ferrets have to compete with goannas, which is why ferrets haven't gained a foothold in Australia because goannas are too tough for them.

Idiotic and pathetic to drive this amazing and rare animal off its prey. Hopefully a lesson there for others. If you can't handle nature red in tooth and claw then look the other way.

So when feral cats eat the possums they are depriving the quoll of its prey...which will sadly lead to its extinction if feral cats are not eradicated.

People are so excited about feral cats evolving into lion-sized apex predators without realising quolls, which are endemic to Sahul (New Guinea, Australia, and Tasmania), will evolve into lion-sized apex predators if cats are eradicated.
