All Canadian Reptile Girl

Приєднався 23 сер 2019
I love reptiles and amphibians! Snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, toads - These incredible creatures fascinate me so much. From the time I was old enough to start joining my dad on his fishing trips, I would be looking for reptiles and amphibians to catch, study and share space with. Join me as I introduce you to my scaly friends (I've got a lot!), share my knowledge, learn interesting facts, go on outdoor herping and conservation adventures and learn with me as I explore the behaviour and biology of these amazing animals, and more!

Tarantula Enclosure Build For My Scariest Pet!! Happy Halloween!
You've only kept snakes for six years? I'm surprised. I assumed your parents were into it, like you were raised with herps.
Three ways to tell a snake from a lizard: 1) look out! It's a snake! 2) it's coming, run!!!!!
“Fancy Driving” by Garrett… I might steal that one…
At least you can be confident in a quick getaway once you steal it!
Aww!! Thanks for the kind words, Annalies! It was a pleasure meeting you. Thanks for the ride back to Clint's after the activities left us 20 minutes away 😂 Love the picture of your mom holding a bullsnake!! Also, no remorse on either getting you into reptiles, nor Ed accidentally flipping off a kid 😂
Oh, Ed….
It was wonderful meeting you as well! Thank you for all you do (and are indirectly responsible for)! LOL
Great video as always
What a great summary of all the shenanigans of the day! Thanks for the video, I’m Heidi and my family has been dying to see video of the events of the day 😂. It was great to meet you! Everyone in the community is so kind and welcoming ❤
Hi Heidi!! It was great meeting you as well! It's a great community, isn't it?!
Youre the best Annalies! I cant wait for you and your parents to come back to visit us again! <3 -Sienna
Can't wait to see you again too!
Looks like a Good time was had by Everyone 😊
It was amazing!!
Awesome video as always!! I did indeed send this directly to Emily because she definitely needs to see it! She is definitely as you described and anyone that gets to chance to meet her are truly lucky. I’m proud to call her a friend. You too, are super sweet and I love your content and now I know I have Emily to thank for you. 😂❤
Thanks so much! It really was wonderful to meet Emily and Ed, something I've looked forward to for the last 5 years!!
Best way to tell them apart is legless lizards have ears. snakes don't.
that's a great way too (it was in my part 1 released Nov 4)!
How about my snake
"All snakes are lizards" I beg your unbelievable pardon?
Yep! They sure are!
Thanks! My boyfriend actually asked me the difference between the two last weekend
Cool. Bigger than i imagined.
I've really got to look up more information on these snakes. Watched a wonderful keeper on animals at home podcast that made a huge, beautiful enclosure and i was instantly intimidated by the level of care they put into it.
They certainly need a lot of enrichment. They are very smart snakes!
Do you have to keep garter snakes together?
They can be kept alone (some even prefer it that way), but generally they seem to be a lot calmer, and easier to tame down when they have companions.
My first interaction with a falsie was with Carroll at clint's and was the reason I ended up getting a male and female.
Carroll is hands down my favorite snake. I've never interacted with another critter that was as impressive and satisfying.
She's incredible, isn't she?
This short feels much longer than a minute, but I’ll keep the u and v thing in mind. In case I get attacked I want to know wether I was eaten by an alligator or Krokodile
I knew you would say that joke before even clicking the video ;)
And if it's an extremely thin snout, it's probably a gharial
probably
My reptile education program is Emily's fault, too. 😁 (thank goodness for Emily and Ed❤).
Right!?
How cool
How cool
Annaliese, until her fateful encounter with an opportunistic American alligator, was a famous Canadian herpetologist. (please don't get an alligator)
LOL
Can they be target trained? Are they smart enough to be target trained?
I haven't tried with Raylan. He's a good eater, but not overly excited when food is presented. Him not bring overly food motivated might make target training him a bit more challenging. I think it's possible with the right skink. They can be quite clever and if yours is really food motivated I would certainly encourage you to try!
I live in Ottawa, lot's of snapping turtles on Anderson Road at the bog to the point where they erected barriers to stop them crossing the road. I only saved three this year before they put the barrier up.
Kamp Kenan has Marge who is very social.
and bitty
She's great!
I've been wanting some of these ever since I saw Clint's video on them!
They are adorable... but I think there's a skink that's even better. Stay tuned!
My mom dubbed herself the arachnid apocalypse when she cleaned out her garage this fall because she destroyed so many webs. She asked me what I thought these smallish black spiders were that she had disturbed. I asked her one question, since I knew she hadn't seen any undersides : were they glossy? She said yes. I told her they were probably black widows and they would leave her alone as long as she gave them time to run away, which she did. She used to be quite arachnophobic also, but time and exposure helped. Shes still not about to let them walk on her but she tolerates most of them as long as they follow basic rules of politeness, like staying off the bed. I happen to love black widows, very docile like you said, but not something I would personally keep. I just love finding them outside. So shiny, so glossy, so modest, so demure, lol
You are a great role model!! My girls and I love watching you.
Thanks so much!!
I'm pretty sure Kevin had produced those years ago😊
If there's anyone that would/could, it would be kevin!
@AllCanadianReptileGirl I can't swear to it. I am going to see if I can find out for sure lol 😆
How about mating a bush master and a python or python and blackmomba
That would be so cool,l! But unfortunately, they're too far apart genetically. It would be like trying to breed a tiger with a house cat.
Absolutely gorgeous!!! And if I remember back to one of Dav’s videos, he was in a cave with wild giant retics and they were indeed living off the bats in the cave.
yeah, cave dwelling retics eat a lot of bats, other Asian pythons do as well. I remember talking to Garrett (Reach Out Reptiles) about my macklots pythons and he asked me if they liked bananas, which I thought was a weird thing to ask. Apparently, many SE Asian species feed on fruit bats so much that they will often try to sample fruits as they associate that smell with their prey. Who knew!?
@ super interesting!!! Leave it to Garrett to have that info! 🤣❤️
Really loving seeing all these shorts, nice to have you popping up daily ❤
I saw one of these at Reptilia in London Ontario! Pretty amazing animal
Yep, this was filmed at Reptilia, same snake! So cool, right?
Looked like a Yellow Anaconda from afar. Interesting.
I think so too. So cool!
I learned this years ago...Was it that many years ago? Ummmm, yup. Also legless lizards have a long tail which they can drop and they are not grace in motion. I love legless lizards.
there's a part 2 coming, no spoilers, but some of those might be on the list. Stay tuned!
Since I'm just now going through every single episode I know I'm very late, so I'll cut it short. They recently discovered that the spider gene does NOT cause neurological issues. It's actually a deformation in the inner ear causing balance issues. 😊 Maybe something to bring up in a future episode? If you haven't already done that and I've not gotten to that episode yet. 🙈 Love your channel!!! ❤️👏
Yes! Very cool revelation, right? I've researched it a bit and might do a video one day once there is more information available to dig into more. I am a little hesitant to tackle the topic as there is a lot of misinformation out there and a lot of emotional/toxic reactions from both sides of the Spider BP debate that I don't relish getting mired in.
That gum sounds amazing!
It is! My all-time favourite!
This is the dream pet reptile. They're so interactive and can be so gentile and dare I say social. If I ever had the space and resources, this would be the top pet for me.
Me too! They are so incredible. They just need sooooo much space to care for properly.
You're talking about the animal I watched on discovery channel taking down a zebra like nothing. I also watched one taking down a wildebeest.
💜💜💜💜
That's how snakes taste the air and the taste send sent to their nasal to smell.
Not quite. Real smelling is done through their nose via their nostrils. The tongue gathers information (does not taste anything, though) and sends it to a different organ altogether that detects and processes it. While scent is part of what they can process this way, it is a different system entirely and is far more complex than smelling.
Would that organ be called the Jacobson organ? That's gotta be their sense of smell. Anyway love you reptile videos. One of my favorites is the one where you're holding a Dumerils boa.
So is it comparable to a cats Fleming response? ( cats stinky face)
Sort of! When cats (or other mammals) make that stinky face they are trying to increase airflow to get more sensory data to their VNO. Snakes just take a more active strategy in getting that information into theirs!
I've been doing my homework on getting my first snake for over a year I have to say I love you channel how much you teach us about reptiles also I love to support a fellow canadian 🙂 Newfoundland here!!!
First long short I’ve seen so far
Cool
Incredible animals, but they need a whole room in your house or a dedicated shed if you live some place warm.
Exactly! Like I said, as amazing as they are, they are probably not great pets for most keepers! they need a lot more space and enrichment than most reptile enthusiasts can provide.
