UMASS Marimba Band, Arr. Olin Johannessen
No audio 😢😢
No sound
Did the Montreal Jazz Festival ever put out a DVD of this show? I've looked in the past but never found one.
Didn’t miss a beat after losing a string!
Not sure why they cut audio to it…if you can’t hear A SONG then why have the video?
He should have been arrested for what he did to that bass.
Para mim está sem áudio o vídeo o que pode ser ?
So underrated I'm an electrician so always have a radio on on the job. When I play this the neighborhood hears it.
Beat bass groove in history. Fight me. I'll go down swinging.
The very best still 🎉 2024
THE BASS SOLO.
It's insane to me that I've been coming back to this video for 15 years now as a bassist and I just consider it 'widely known' as one of the best bass soloes of all time... and this has less than 100k views. Victor Wooten and his work with the Flecktones is INSPIRATIONAL.
I’m right here with ya thinkin the same exact thing before I saw your comment!
Is anyone else not getting any sound from this?
No sound!
its just awesome
I HAVE NO WORDS……. 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
I can't believe only 35,000 people have seen this....this shit is crazy as hell I've never seen somebody play a bass like this lol
Sorry, it's even less. I'm probably 1/3 of the total view count
@@dekarthegreat lol same here, every few weeks I put this on
Awesome victor💚💚
That is the craziest and yet most technically proficient and skillful bass solo I've ever seen.
If you like this guy, look up Mark King from Level 42, you’ll thank me later…
10 years since the last comment under this video but man thats dope 🔥🔥🔥
🥀🥀🥀🥀 I've got chills
And they say god isn’t real…
I was just thinking about the challenge of being the drummer and having to keep time with all of this going on lmao
The drummer is his brother, and they have been doing this since they were little kids. Victor and his brothers toured with Curtis Mayfield when Vic was only 5 years old.
I wonder if he'll pay for my jaw that just dropped?
Probably the most Epic moment in Québec bass History!!! Tout le monde Était debout dire que je l'ai decouvert en 2009 l'année après qu'il soit venu a Mtl
Saw them in Ottawa in 2002.
What the... This is beyond incredible.
For those of you saying this isn’t better than the original, this is an expertly arranged percussion ensemble.
Wish I could find the intro somewhere. Sounds like starry starry night.
This is the definition of team
It's a master piece. Don't you have one with better quality?
Thanx for that. Exactly how I remember it. Saw him and Bella Fleck and the Flecktones 3 years ago in Toronto. Absolutely blew me away. Their sound is tight yet improvisational. After the show the audience was invited to mingle with the artisans for a short time. They re all very accomplished. I'll miss Bella. He played banjo like Ponty plays violin.
Dude tearing it up with that bong!
Absolute Master!
Great stuff! I remember seeing this on TV! thanks for posting! I saw Wooten (bass) bend at his ankles forward like he was nailed to the floor, So Cool and amazing!
Around 4 minutes, Vic puts a quote straight off of Continuum by Jaco. It's not unique to this recording either. That just goes to show how great Vic is.
What he said about music and inspiration at the start could really be applied to life in general, in my opinion.
Meet me in Telluride in June to see them live! Can't wait for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. This is real talent.
This band has been a HIDDEN gem for 27 years...even though they have won grammys.I have all their albums except two.I'm almost 42...been listening to them since I was 16. Vic got me into the band I was an inspiring bass player looking for new sounds like this band of futuristic space age jazz fusion musicians hail to howard levy , bela, vic ,futch and jeff incredible musicians
+questkid73 Vic is the man. I saw him in San Juan Capistrano, CA like 5 years ago in a place that sat about 150. Tore it up, amazing show. He stuck around to talk with fans and sign autographs. Just the baddest bass player around and an all around great human being.
Well of course this hears like a song of the scottish band Big Country..!
+Pascal ,.... "you take the high road and i'll take the low road and i'll be in Scotland before ye."
Dios bendiga a esta gente que sabe regalar toda esa magia!
Please, please, please tour again! Love these guys, incredible musicians, wonderful people...one of the best songs ever.
Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn are gonna be at Bonnaroo this year. See em there!
lineup.bonnaroo.com/
Bassist is Jaco Pastorius, reincarnate. Anyone know the time signature/s used? Can't figure it, myself. Thanks, Bela & band!
The B section is 17/8 - at least i think....
Life affirming music
Seeing these guys in person is almost a religious experience. They just layer sound after sound until it almost overwhelms you. It doesn't hurt that they have some of the most talented musicians out there playing with them.
+bromixsr , I agree, I've seen individual musician's who had a "band", but Bela has individuals with him that are playing unique style and are very exceptional in their own instruments, (Jimi Hendrix called it ,"electric church", where people come together to share the unique experience, and race creed color religion become suspended when the individual consciousness becomes shared in a spiritual community.
+bromixsr Reminds me of Phish. Great music builds a great atmosphere. These guys are very talented.
So much REAL talent. So not into the electronic sound where anyone can sound good. It's wonderful to hear REAL musical talent. The bass and sax duet on "Big Country" is incredible. Bela's solos are...ummm...OUTSTANDING!
This might be my favorite piece of music on Earth. It makes me feel good every time I play it. Every person in this song has a "kickass" part. Even after Bela crushes his part, dude on the clarinet still gets to do his thing and it's awesome. Without music, life would be a mistake.
DoctorGonzo41 That's a soprano saxophone, not clarinet.
your heart is in the right place though
My bad.. :)
why does he keep tuning it? is he intentionally detuning it to get the harmonics right, or is it just out of tune?
A little of both. He IS doing it intentionally in some places, then tuning back. But when you do this it can loosen the tension, so you have to retune it a couple times to get it to stay back in place.
RAS0302 looks like he an excellent sense of pitch
Wow !!
KICK ASS !! they are the shit !!!!
Bassoon !!!! Awesome
Esse baixista é MUITO talentoso!!!!
this might be the coolest song i've ever heard in my life plus victor wooten quoting continuum in it? omg just shoot me now OR SEND ME TO THE GULAG
