Proud Dad Moment: My 8-Year-Old Daughter's First Whitetail Deer Hunt!
This is a moment I’ll treasure forever-a proud dad moment during Alabama’s youth hunting weekend at Shady Grove Outfitters. My 8-year-old daughter, Ivy, showed incredible patience, determination, and courage as we embarked on her first whitetail deer hunt.
Over the weekend, we shared unforgettable experiences: spotting countless deer, learning the ropes of ethical hunting, and building her confidence in the field. On Sunday morning, the big moment arrived-after careful preparation and a lot of heart, Ivy harvested her very first whitetail deer at just under 50 yards.
Words can’t describe how proud I am of her achievement and the growth she showed throughout this journey. From walking into the woods to processing the deer with our amazing guide Mike, Ivy gained hands-on experience in every step of the hunting process.
Captured with GoPro, Tactacam, and iPhone, this video showcases the weekend from multiple angles-highlighting the highs, the lessons, and the unforgettable memories. Whether you’re a parent, hunter, or outdoor enthusiast, we hope this story inspires you to celebrate the next generation of hunters.
Have you experienced a special hunting moment with your family? Share your stories in the comments below-we’d love to hear them!"

I lost 22 pounds on trail. Not good with processed foods. Doesn’t help. I’m 61. Will need to rethink going forward. The honey stingers were great for a bit and then too sweet.
@@kristymoore7052 Losing 22 pounds on the trail is significant, and it’s clear that balancing nutrition with foods that work well for your body is key. At 61, managing energy levels and avoiding overly processed foods can definitely be more challenging on demanding hikes like the JMT. If you’re looking to rethink your approach, perhaps incorporating more whole, calorie-dense, yet minimally processed options (like nuts, seeds, dehydrated veggies, or quality jerky) could help. I also hear you on the sweetness of products like Honey Stingers-they’re great for quick energy, but they can become overwhelming after a while. Balancing those with savory snacks like cheese or even crackers might offer a nice break and help sustain energy levels. If you have any specific strategies you’re considering, I’d love to hear about them. It’s always great to learn from fellow hikers.
Subscribed because A. We were on he trail at the same time, I was NOBO though. B. We are so similar, but different. I’m a 61 yr old female. C. We have similar gear for similar reasons. I too carried the lite bed, purchased before because I was tired of sweating in the Sierra where live. For this trip, I purchased the UL 1/2 sheet and because I was unsure about conditions, also purchased and carried the Enlightened Equipment down pants. Those, coupled with my puffy, ensured my sleep system would be ok. We had fantastic weather, so barely needed that added security. After a 40 mile shake down hike, one thing I sprang for, age again, was the Bearikade vs the bv500 which I owned. Even stuffing it with random lightweight stuff, it just was too cumbersome.
@@kristymoore7052 Thank you so much for subscribing and for sharing your incredible experience! It’s amazing that we were on the trail at the same time, even if headed in opposite directions-what a small world! Your gear setup sounds perfect for the Sierra, and I love the adjustments you made, especially adding the Enlightened Equipment down pants. I had a couple luxury items I will speak to in another video that is the conclusion to this video I have planned once I finish the individual videos for the trail itself. It’s always fascinating to see how other hikers tweak their systems based on conditions. The Bearikade vs. BV500 debate is real-I totally get how cumbersome it can feel when stuffed to capacity. Glad to hear you had fantastic weather, though! If you ever feel like sharing more about your NOBO experience or lessons from the Sierra, I’d love to hear about it. Thanks again for the support-it means so much to connect with fellow hikers like you!
It is what it is Live on
Love it really creative😀🤘🏻
Did you do the JMT in 10 days? I hiked it this past summer NOBO. Took me 3.5 weeks but I did it. When were you on trail?
No! I hiked the JMT in 19 days, I just haven't edited and posted all of my videos yet! more to come!
Wild robot real
Way cool
@@mhandy61 couldn’t agree more!
@PeakPursuitsAdventures I saw this year's ago. The square one in the side photo. If the idea that 7-10 miles down the path was this. Hell yeah
@ one of the coolest spots I saw during my JMT hike! Loved it
I think you talked to yourself more than I talked for my entire trip. Sallie Keyes Lake was where we had a short visit with a couple skinny dipping.
@@joecole9475 I did talk to myself a lot, especially on this day!
I first hiked that section of the JMT as a 13 year old scout. My first section hike. I still recall what a complete butt kicker Donohue was.
@@chili1593 scouting has taken me many places I other wise never would have gone!
@@PeakPursuitsAdventures several sections of the JMT, rivers, ocean camps and lifelong confidence in and love of the outdoors in my case. Those merit badges still come in handy.
@@chili1593 Not a single doubt there!!! As an Eagle Scout myself I wholeheartedly agree!
Lame
But did you get your first one? But seriously, thank you for sharing this! I'm looking forward to seeing more.
@@WanderingFromKansas my excitement was ridiculous, I know, but it was real
Kim and I will enjoy reliving our JMT experience through your videos. By the way, Kim and I camped where you ended this video.
@@joecole9475 it was an amazing camping spot!
Mind over body! Great video!
Luxury items rock!!
@@SoloHiker1 yes they do!!!
Why would one eat so poorly after losing and having success at getting healthier? You certainly could have eaten food for fuel, good healthy whole foods and then keep your journey going with either maintaining or strength training after for a more of body re-composition rather that fat loss. Hope you enjoyed the John Muir trail though. I bet it was beautiful!
Kim mentioned that you did not include VVR meals in your assessment. What up with that? You forgot the 2 plates of prime rib!!!!!!
@@joecole9475 you’re sooo right!!! I also didn’t include the 24” pancakes and double bacon cheese burgers from Whitney portal!!! And I STILL somehow lost 13 pounds!!!!
Good for you bro. Do not compromise your enjoyment of this bucket list adventure by omitting luxury items just to save a few pounds. I wear a fanny pack facing forward and you can get at least 2 lbs out of your back. Maybe your electronics and a water bottle could go with the fanny pack. Unfortunately you're on trail as I'm sending this.
Best trip ever and the extras did nothing to negate my enjoyment of this hike!!!
Were the shoes the Topo Pursuit or the Topo Traverse ? Also love the backpack and tent choice ! Team Sage !!!
SAGE FOR LIFE!!! the Topo are the Traverse! Thanks for watching!
Sounds like a well thought out plan... Looking forward to following along. Happy Hiking!!!
@@andydickson5400 Thank you!
30 seconds into this video I knew you were a yinzer.
I'll take that as a good thing! haha
@@PeakPursuitsAdventures I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. Moved away over 20 years ago though.
@@rschreck876 Same! the military has had me all over away from my roots in the Burgh!
@@PeakPursuitsAdventures Ha. I left PA for the Army also.
I can't wait to hear all about the fishing you do! The High Sierra along the PCT/JMT was the best fishing I've ever experienced!
I’m almost more excited for the fishing than the hike! Can’t wait to tell you all about it! Thanks for all of the help along the way!!!
Nice build! I've had a couple. My '65 Barracuda had a 273 that sounded like that.
Very cool!
I love them mopars
Great taste!
The 318 is a tough little engine you can put them through hell and they keep on ticking very cold natured
Sleepers for sure!
That engine is so big it almost looked like a huge ass dude with a red shirt / grey shorts kneeled over with pipes and headers coming out of him 😂 maybe I’m just high
Anything but a dodge
Even a Honda?!
318 is a gretbase to build on
*PromoSM*
random video on my recommended, wholesome as hell
Can you upload a longer restoration video with some more specific info, btw it looks awesome
Absolutely! I'll create a video for that!
Sweet cuda😊
Thanks!
That’s a cow 🐮
That's a pretty sweet car. Great job!
Thank you!
